Thinking of stocking it with a few Amano shrimp and a betta, I’m thinking it should work since Amano shrimp usually reach 2 inches as adults and they aren’t colorful

They also don’t mess with other fish much they just mind their own business

I’m planning on putting them in first and letting them grow to adult size since you usually get shrimps as juveniles, then I’ll get a betta and do some tests in store to see how aggressive it is. There are a few ways to tell like if it flares at other bettas a lot n stuff

If the betta ends up picking on the shrimp, I can donate it to my local fish store and I know they’ll take good care of them. I’d probably do a honey gourami then

Amanos are much larger and obv less colorful than cherries, the 10 gal has a good chunk of plants too. But I want to let them grow out some more to give the shrimp more hiding spots in case they need it, but also so they feel secure

Ammonia (fish poop) -> Nitrite -> nitrate, ammonia and nitrite are very toxic to fish, nitrates being the least toxic. The conversion of these is done by beneficial bacteria that establishes in the tank over time

Meanwhile freshwater ecosystems are changing all the time so the fish are better suited to changes

Nitrates however cannot be turned into anything or used up unless you have live plants, so you need to do water changes to take out nitrates or you need plants (you still need to do water changes with plants, less often depending on if your tank has a lot of plants)

It is possible to do a filter less tank though
