as they said, use buildings like collectors, barracks, army camps and other random buildings as barriers to keep enemy troops distracted, but storages you want to keep a bit more protected, and also dont worry too much about maxing everything. at lower town halls, maybe do pretty much everything as their isnt as much, but at higher town halls, you dont want to be trying to finish everything. the lab especially is something that is always the last thing to finish.
