Look at photographs. Real photos; unless you want to study a specific Art Style. Learn your skeletons, and how muscles lay, the way fat folds. You can find all this information online.
Adorkastock is a great reference source for artists that don't want to look at nude body poses.

All skin tones, barring fantasy species, are made of Orange and Blue tones. Darker skin colors have more Blue than Orange, and lighter will have more Orange. You can also use orange and blue for shadows and highlights. [I have not added Blue tones to my canvas yet]
