so you want to understand how it would wrap around the shape of them

Determine where your light is which in your case is the moon. Now since the moon technically is in front of the mountain that would mean that a shadow would be cast on the hills closest to it. You might be able to lighten the hills closer to the character but the character’s back would be in shadow too but not quite a silhouette like standing in front of the sun. Hope this helps.

exactly what he said, unless you want the moon to shine from the right, at that point it won't be in frame though and you'll have to apply a gradient to the sky (very subtly)

to make the person think ah yes the moon is there everything else acts accordingly

You might be able to get away with lighting up the right side of the mountain where the moon shines but keep everything darker otherwise. A slight glow around the moon might give the illusion of a bright moon too. Also to give the whole illustration a 3d effect, don’t use black. Try and stick to the darkest color of your palette.

Great job! Really gives the feeling of desolate isolation, and the feeling that there may have been a sea once with how flat it is, long since dried. I'm not sure how you could add this, but it'd be cool to see some affects of the heat in the distance, but that's hard if you want to keep the desolate look.

You don't need an airbrush to weather. You could get some brown okre paint and some grey, mix it together and water it down. You then apply it with a brush and let it sit for less or around a minute then blot it up.

Although, I'm not sure how filament would take it.

May need to sand and prime before hand.
