The horror crawler cannot be damaged at range, and it NEVER seems to flank. So if it moves, it's into the zone with the character having sword of Damocles, which pushes him back out to range. It would be great if I could cancel an effect.

I guess the "fix" for this is that exiting the game during a battle resets the battle.

In this case, I had no recourse by the time I noticed. The effect was active. No one had cards that could "fix" it. A nice safety feature would be to allow you to dismiss an influence effect.

well yes but no, I think it's kinda meant to not just play any influence card but think of a concept including monster mechanics since the last patch 
I mean in worst case u have to restart the round, not optimal but yes😅

We had a long debate on that one and decided to prevent such deadlock by (probably, to be decided) dealing extra damage to affected monster.
