chaff is just metal strips so the engine could probably chew through without any major issues

flares I'm not that sure on but I don't think those are that big either

I feel like flying through debris from an explosion would make more likely to cause engine issues, but considering how rare of an occurrence this is i dont think the performance cost of checking for debris is worth it

i know there have been incidents of chinese fighters dumping chaff in front of western reconnaissance aircraft
