A system for the AH-94 that adds in a Multi-Target-Track and Image-Auto-Track system for the TADS that would allow the CP/G to track multiple targets, and switch between tracked targets. The system would work on top of the pre-existing tracking system, simply adding to it instead of replacing it.

This would enable the AH-94 to more effectively deal with multiple targets and make better use of its weapons, for example switching targets right after destroying one, as well as set it apart from most other aircraft for ground attack.

The main potential problem I see with it is that it would likely make the TADS somewhat more difficult to use, with more bindings/controls needed and all.

This could also potentially be difficult to balance (in case balance or similar is a concern), given the FAF and LOAL capability of the AGM-145. targets would not be tracked unless visible as usual, and number of tracks could be limited to 5, for example.

wouldnt that just be GPS targeting?

no he is saying that the TADS should be able to track 5 targets at once, like 5 individual TGPs, that you can swap to at any time. GPS targeting is simply a gps coordinate, fixed, unmoving

how would that work tho ?
how does it work on the apache ?

I believe it works by slewing the crosshair to a target and pressing a button, it stores that target and lets you continue to slew and store more targets, you can hold that button to slew back to the most recent target immediately and remove it from memory.

So you slew to a target, tap (store as 1), slew to another target, tap (store as 2), slew to a final target, tap (store as 3).

Then when you're ready to fire: Hold (slews to target 3), shoot, Hold (slews to target 2), shoot, Hold (slews to target 1), shoot.

#

I think there are some constraints when you are using MTT though. Like you can't let a target leave the widest field of view or else it will drop that target (because it can't see it anymore)

This sounds like a perfect job for the FCR the ah-94 has

misty marsh
#

Yeah, I don't see a need for the extra complexity

#

The FCR is already super powerful for that kind of engagement.

i don’t know how the AH-64 works, but i get a feeling this capability is just the FCR tracking multiple targets

Sure

way more capable too

#

bacause only being able to track targets that are inside the TADS’ FOV seems weak

#

compared to the wide area of the FCR

I was gonna suggest this thinking it was too niche to be a dupe

Thankfully I checked because this is basically word for word what my suggestion was gonna be

#

I would also like to add that this should go to the Kestrel, as it has hellfires as well and would benefit from such a change

#

But yeah no this would allow you to space out the launch of 5 different hellfires on 5 different moving targets with a small level of compensation even if they go behind cover

#

While being able to keep your RADAR off to not give away your location

#

And notice how I said hellfires and not AGM-145s, because if you space them out, you can have all 5 in the air, on their way to the target, and just get target swapped to the next guy in line

#

You CAN do this without MTT/IAT, but this would make it a little easier to do target transitions, instead of trying to fumble trying to track the next guy before the missile lands
