I am not very educated on how this works, but AGM-88's are able to be launched on GPS points irl. (I think this is called "prebriefed mode"). This allows the HARM to launch on targets that have not yet turned their radars on, or have not yet been detected by the RWR.

This is a real life ability for the HARM that I would like to see in VTOL. Again, I am not very knowledgeable on how this method works, but I know that Baha can make it work if he decides to add it.

I think is has something to do with the missile calculating its loft trajectory. It’s not a gps precision guided munition, so it’s unlikely to impact a radar unless the radar is emitting and the harm is locked on to it. Doesn’t make sense to fire a harm at an asleep radar. Could be more like a LOAL function. Fire from a terrain masked position instead of within the sam wez. I could see a setting for this in the sms weapon controls page.

Older harms pb mode is both used to aid in ranging info on known threats but also to put weapons in the air before threats emit allowing a arm to home on as soon as they decide to emit

Pilot can also configure flex modes where as if the intended target ceases emitting the missile will look for other similar threat radars and can additionally enter a glide profile

E.G. big bird goes offline so it will look for the flap lid

that one is just harm having a gps missile option, pre briefed modes like you described here would not be perfectly accurate unless the 88S was given the more precise gps guidane like it likley has irl

First, I'm for this post. But I really wish we could have more difficult SAMs to make this feature more useful in my own opinion.

With the older HARMs, or atleast the ones you use in DCS and BMS on the viper have 3 major position launched settings which I think would be great if all 3 were added since they all have their use cases.

RUK : Range Unknown

A HARM will launch and at will activate it's seeker at 30nms in a wide FOV to try and detect the selected radar. Great from long range defensive shots on SAMs that are dangerous, but not able to move without a precise known location.

PB : Prebreifed

The launch mode used when you have a high confidence that the target is within a certain point. Seeker enables at roughly 13nm with a wide seeker FOV

EOM : Equation of Motion

The most precise HARM option used when you can direclty corelate a SAM with a steerpoint or SPI. It engages its seeker at only 8nm and has a very narrow seeker FOV. In my opinion this could be a great counter to Decoy radars
