I feel the addition of contrails would make spotting aircraft in the distant a little bit more like DCS. I know there are already small contrails that disappear when you make a turn but it would be nice having ones that stay in the air for a few minutes. Like in real life you could make contrails appear from 16,000 - 40,000 ft. Also different aircraft could have different sized contrails or no contrail at all. The larger planes like AWACS could have a larger contrail and the F45 would be harder to make a contrail.

I think on top of this the type of map, like artic or desert should affect how high the contrail starts

yes because the size of contrail and how long it last is mainly based off of humidity and temperature in real life.
