#VLS Land Attack Cruise Missiles for Allied/Enemy Cruiser

Something similar to the tomahawk cruise missile, available to both of the teams cruisers.
I imagine the launch would be controlled by the mission creator, using GPS coordinates, arbitrary positions or waypoints to mark targets for the missiles to attack, and then having them launched via an action in the mission editor.

These missiles should be able to destroy hardened targets such as bunkers too.

This would go hard along with naval arty

Basically it could function like artillery units where the mission creator adds a waypoint for the missile to fire on through an action

its actually kinda funny how every single missile suggestion we've made tries to accomplish the same thing yet is in 3 different channels

ATACMS would go hard, tho

ATACMs would go crazy

I’m surprised nobody made a request already, i mention it in ASW request already but that doesn’t count obviously

#

I think it’s a shame that the ships rarely use their armament

#

and when they do it kinda sucks, at least their SAM

man I even made a super high effort image for this then realized someone has probably already suggested this

YES PLEASE

I think it’d be a really cool mission to have the players clear out hostile aircraft’s, boats, Sam’s, and/or any other kind of threat to the missile, then escort the cruise Missile all the way to the target.

There could be some pop up air/interceptor threats as well. Would make for a really cool lead up to a dynamic event. “Escort & Protect the cruise missile, once it’s been fired, at all costs.”

TLAMs are pretty big, so they would probably show up from side aspect

jade frost
#

show up but from what range?

spring iris
#

A couple miles. I've locked cruise missiles and the ESuperMissile in VTOL before

#

sometimes in boresight mode by accident

jade frost
#

huh, i wonder then how dense the net of sams would have to be in order to always be able to detect a cruise missile

friendly ships see them coming i believe, enemy ship to ship missiles have shown up on my TSD before

I wish we had actual datalink and different icons on the NAV page in the 4th gens

contact sharing over radar too

ye but i mean, it could be the same way DAS can detect missiles and see them coming, even help you with missile interception with 120s. and using DAS for detection works only for missiles that are going at you, at least reliably. question is if the ships do detect it from far away, or just from enough away to intercept succesfully. like my issue here isnt that it will be invisible and undestroyable, but moreso that it will be engaged in the last few seconds of flight. kinda the way 161s are ususally done on the pvp strike mission.

keep in mind we are talking about land attack missiles, so land based air defences and fighters would be responsible for intercepting them.

#

Not ships

jade frost
#

ye i know, its just that the idea of "protect and escort" a cruise missile becomes much less cool of the protection needs to happen on the last five miles of its flight, and not throughout the whole thing

would you escort cruise missiles tho ?

I’m thinking it’d look something like this:

  1. Send in an F-45 team to stealthily knock out Early Warning Radars.
  2. Send a SEAD team for Sam threats, AA, etc. & A2A team for the (initial) Air superiority.
  3. Helicopters could even clean up some Mobile Sams in the cities.
  4. The AV-42 could then be escorted in to extract a team of soldiers from the AO, before the Cruise missile/main strike happens.
  5. By this time, we’ve taken one or two airbases along the missiles future flight path for rearm/refuel.
  6. We then have a limited time to land, rearm, etc. and get ready for incoming air threats, sent to retaliate, who will also be coming to intercept the missile.
  7. The Tomahawk missile is fired from the Cruiser, with several aircraft escorting and defending it from the impending air threats.
  8. The Missile flys the set path, the players keeping air threats at bay, maybe a few players having some AirsT’s to intercept any potential long range Radar missiles fired from Opposing aircraft.
  9. The missile strikes a large (hardened) structure/bunker/building, completing the mission.

i never felt the need to, on the contrary even, as me being detected may mean they are. but if they would be detected anyway, i could see it happening. doesnt even have to be one cruise missile, but a whole flock of them

lavish gorge
#

well the point of cruise missiles is that they can get shot down

#

you just fire a salvo, and let them do their thing

#

You don’t escort them

winged lion
#

But if there was a bunch of interceptor aircraft that would be launched to take them out, then you’d need to.

lavish gorge
#

i guess, but then you might as well escort fighters in

#

it’s just not really done irl afaik

#

tho i could be wrong

#

but i can’t think of an example of fighters following cruise missiles to escort them

winged lion
#

Well, what I’m thinking is that the targeted structure for the cruise missile would require the cruise missile to take it out, for whatever reason, and regular bombing wouldn’t be as feasible (since we only have 1000lb bombs currently)

#

and I don’t know exactly how, but I’m sure somebody could be creative enough to think of some complications that would require the cruise missile to have some fighter escorts

Ooooh. So the Tomahawk is GPS guided, right? So have EF-24’s escort the missile and jam the low band jammer targets so the missile can accurately navigate!

lavish gorge
#

just think of the AGM-161 already in game, even were it not stealthy, you get in range, you launch it and don’t escort it any futher, except maybe by launching a harm simultaneously.

lavish gorge
#

radar navigation ? not sure what its called, but basicly radar mapping IFR lol

#

Tomahawks in VTOL would be more useful for cinematic effects, and for events in missions, maybe you take out the coastal MAD-4 battery which triggers the fleet to fire their TLAMs.
