VTOL Earth is canonical flat.

Don't think it's really necessary, but making it curved would add interesting interaction with radar and visual horizon distances, particularly with antiship attacks.

#

This would probably be hard to implement, i dont know of any flight sims that actually do curved earth stuff. Also some missions dont have 1:1 scale, so this would screw that up.

#

It would be an incredibly minor change gameplay wise with how small maps are, but the best way to implement it imo is just a check in the radar that calculates if the target would be behind the radar horizon on a "spherical" map

#

I dont think it would have any major gameplay impact though so its kinda unnecessary

(bitzs is wrong)

#

The horizion against vtol boats would be like 9nm

This would definitely help with sead missions if SAM sites are made a bit more deadly and actually a threat to consider

#

Make SAM sites more dangerous and add this as an actually useful practice to cope

It's also an excuse to make SAMs more lethal

#

"unless ur stealth don't cruise towards a SAM site at 40,000ft"

@short shore

#

you have equations

higher elevation lets you see farther

#

and lower elevation hides you from radars

#

i really want that

proper rock
#

but there would be more consequences to actual round earth vtol i would assume

runic vale
#

i think rendering it would be really difficult with the current state of the game

runic vale
#

but doing something like DCS where it limits your range of radar/tgp/whatever else without actually changing the geometry would work well

yeah, but its a flat rate

#

yea

#

~25NMs

i think it varies from each aircraft, i remember locking something further than that in the F-45

proper rock
#

that's the tgp range, you can see a little bit further than that

runic vale
#

idk, whatever it is

proper rock
#

regardless this suggestion is mainly for horizon effects at low alt, not boosting visibility at high alt.

runic vale
#

even if it was just for radars, that would be perfectly fine

#

yeah

proper rock
#

increased render distance would be sick as hell but that's a whole nother enchilada

runic vale
#

nothing in the game matters beyond 25NMs besides radars

#

the big thing im looking for though, is flying low enough to be below the horizon of a radar

#

especially near water

#

lowering the ranges would be equally important

sneak up on ships at 50 feet off the water

Would make doing DEAD shit would be more fun

yup
