#EF-24G TWS outside of its variable radar cone

Lemme explain. Take the 26 or t-55, if you set their radar to standard ("forward" cone and not Bscope) and you reduce the scan angle to ~15 degrees. You can pick up a bandit inside the 15 degrees and TWS him all the way outside of 15 degrees until the default 60... This only works for standard radar configuration not Bscope.

Point is even if you limit the radar sweep u can tws bandits outside of the limited angle.

Idk if this is a bug but the ef-24 radar is powerful but ass... The HUD indicator is never accurate outside of 30 degrees and warps. Imo, one should be able to tws a bandit inside the radar sweep angle (both vertical and horizontal) and then be able to "drag" (crank) tws even if the bandit leaves the radar sweep angle (for example, dives down and leaves the 15 degree vertical azimuth that is showen by hud.

Although this would "boost" the ef24... It would passively "suggest" the player to keep at long range. What i see most of the time now (on chase server or other pvp) is people using the radar just to find the plane for a second so they can eots it at 30 miles

When the whether update comes out this will (hopefully change this dynamic) requiring better use of radar.

its probably just a coding thing

Is this a bug?

a TWS target will remain tracked even if it leaves your current scan elevation

open solstice
#

if its not, then its a bug

if you tws a bandit within the cone, and the bandit moves out of the cone azimuth (by moving above or below it) the TWS loses lock

#

im 99% sure this is the case cuz every time i have TWS a bandit and i move my scan zone above the bandit (the bandit is not within the horizontal bars on the HUD marking the azimuth angle of the radar) the bandit drops out from radar AND the TWS lock is lost

# crystal grove isn’t that how it should be ?

this is why im suggesting this in the feature requests and not bug post...

if the fa-26 has this mechanism when using "forward" radar display (even if it IS a bug, the 24 and most other planes should have this feature too.

this would greatly improve the functionality of the 24 radar since TWS in just a 15 degree cone is very iffy at best.
"the most powerful radar" but with the least versatility... if the 24 is infact suppose to be a flying CIA super computer then a small change list this reflects that

#

in addition to this, when weather goes official, radar will b used much more as it will greatly change the dynamics of BFM in low vis situations...
if people are forced to use an "iffy" radar that looses TWS every time you turn, or cus the HUD radar display doesnt accurately reppresent where the cone is pointing then it will be annoying

crystal grove
#

can’t you just use it in wide angle ?

meager needle
#

and try it urself

#

wide angle radar "HUD" is warped by a 0 degrees when its level with horizion (when the plane is going stright)

#

but warps badly the more up and down u move it....

#

i dont understand y yall are trying to poke holes in this idea... the f15E has this feature, even the FA26 (by accident prolly) y not just make it official?

crystal grove
#

i don’t know, seems to me like the track should be lost if it moves outside the box

meager needle
#

dude, this is a futuristic sim, ergo ALL plane radars are using doppler shift to scan their boxes... (this btw is the principle reason TWS works!!!!! due to doppler radar)

#

seems to me EVERY plane should be able to do this
NOT ONLY FA-26 AND 55 even if its a bug

crystal grove
#

don’t come on to me

#

i don’t know how TWS works

#

i don’t have an issue with how the radar works so i don’t care about this

gray holly
#

so you're referring to horizontal scan, not vertical scan?

#

like reducing your scan angle to 15° horizontal arc, tagging a target with TWS, but when cranking the TWS lock drops?

meager needle
#

both

gray holly
#

past 15°

meager needle
#

yes

#

im 99% sure the lock drops but i might have been 99% unlucky on ALL of my TWS

gray holly
# meager needle both

for vertical as well? unless something has changed TWS is not limited by current scan elevation. I never reduce my horizontal scan angle (on the 24) so i can't speak foe that

#

if you tag a target with TWS your current scan elevation no longer matters, it will be tracked even if you're not looking there anymore.

hmmmm

lol

#

this is already in the game

alright

meager needle

@burnt drum kudos for busting the myth im dumb

#

and 99% unlucky

burnt drum
#

lol np

#

well

meager needle
#

how i delete post

burnt drum
#

not really unlucky

#

u just didn't fully test it before making the post

yes

#

thats why hes closing the post

gray holly
# burnt drum yes

nah do like TWS targets drop if they exit your reduced horizontal scan angle?

burnt drum
#

if the ef24 no

crystal grove
#

so i don’t need to slew the scan box to the side when cranking ??

burnt drum
#

correct
