#AGM-84 SLAM-ER

just for more weapon variation and characteristics, and that's the whole point, the terminal guidance
but there's no difference in it being optical or radar for the user
I like the idea of more weapon variation, but I feel like we can find a more unique ASM weapon
Im not sure I understand your point, Are you saying that its not optically guided because the terminal stage uses optical and thermal guidance
what do you think the agm-89 uses right now, for final guidance
GPS?
nope, and that's my point, you wouldn't notice it being optical or something else
what? no I mean DATALINK TV guidancemdone by the player
The terminal guidance on the 89 is radar lol..
oh you want man-in-the-loop control, okay that's different enough, my bad😅
what? no for the SLAM-ER
yes the 89 has radar terminal guidance Im not referring to that at all I'm talking about DATALINK tv guidance done by the player like how the slam-er functions
The radar terminal guidance will pick a target for you in an area
If I want to kill a fire control radar in a SAM site, the AGM-89 radar might go for one of the launchers instead
don't use a anti-ship cruise missile for ground targets😅
you have the agm-161 for that
Sorry that’s what I’m thinking of lol
The 161 doesn’t have radar terminal guidance does it?
it has optical guidance
So it will still pick a target the pilot may not want?
it will pick the target that's the closest to the GPS point made
Yeah I figured
So this still applies just replace 89 with 161 sorry
Trade-off would be the 161 is fire and forget whereas the SLAM-ER gives more precision over what dies but forces the pilot to loiter in the air (even though not really near the target area) to guide the missile in
I think it has a place in VTOL
could make it so the AGM-84 acts more like an amraam where you lock up a ship on an air-to-sea radar and fire it that way
That would be cool
I’d LOVE that
but tbh I don't see why the AGM-89 can't act that way either
