F/A-26, T/A-55 (maybe) and E/F-24 only

NVG's and FLIR can sometimes be obstructive and can make IFF a bit more difficult due to it being monochromatic, or even obstructive in FLIR's case. The ability to cage the FLIR and/or NVGs to the hud to aid forward night navigation would streamline and emulate the LANTIRN capabilities found in the modern aircraft the F-26 and F-24, (and to some extent with block 40 f16s) the 55 are based on, making night terrain navigation cooler, easier, more realistic and more engaging.

I think it depends on the headset, my Reverb G2 is super dark at night which makes NVG's 100% necessary, but I would imagine headsets with better brightness or contrast would be able to see very well at night.

You can change your NVG to only sit in a limited space of your FOV as well as adjust where within your FOV that circle will live.
