If you stop jamming yes

last shore
#

cool, thanks

Also found out that AIM-7s fired on HOJ cannot reacquire on a radar lock

last shore
#

if anything got threat rings, i think this would be the one, but i also think everything should get it

#

the 45 should get an aspect RCS indication ball as well

dark anchor
#

yea

#

EF24 would be amazing with threat rings

#

because of jamming corridor indication!!

#

(I beg)

This is a great article i just remembered

#

Obviously it talks of a tanker which seems off-topic

#

Even the USAF’s existing tanker fleet is taking on new roles that are untraditional for aerial refueler types. These include launching and controlling drones, including those potentially tasked to defend the tanker themselves.

#

from the article, Seemed relevant idk

#

Interesting

last shore
#

player - player refueling would be kinda jank cause of desync, but if it's just client side for the lineup, it would work out mechanically

#

it would look a bit weird for the tanker plane, but not too bad for the one getting refueled

#

tbh yeah, it seems like a blended wing

#

that design minus the vertical stabs would be optimal imo

#

Why is the commander on a big plane?
Why not on a carrier or an amphibious assault ship?

last shore
#

they're guiding loitering munitions and defending specifically themselves

#
  • if drone release and capture happens, it would make more sense
#

and scouting bomb targets

lunar stag
last shore
#

i mean retreiving specific gps targets for the bomber to hit

#

in which case it helps for the person doing that to be contained in the bomber itself

#

and it helps avoid low band jamming to a certain degree

lunar stag
#

If the commander is on a carrier, then you only need drones and regular bombers.

#

You can use drones to scout targets and get GPS locations, then have bombers attack them via datalink.

last shore
#

i dont think that gets rid of the usefullness of being able to do that from the bomber

#

and if the bomber is the one that deployed the drones, every other similar situation has the mother aircraft controlling it

lunar stag
#

Why do drones have to be deployed from bombers rather than from aircraft carriers or the ground?

last shore
#

its both ways for the record

#

and it saves fuel, which would be a big limitation for small drones

#

regardless, theres still a lot of other things it would be doing

lunar stag
#

If you can send a bomber, then you can send a UAV with the same range.

last shore
#

thats definitely not true

#

not for the types that would be used for defending aircraft

lunar stag
#

We already have data links. Why does the commander need to be on the bomber?

last shore
#

cause its operating high volumes of smaller systems that are deployed by the bomber

#

just like how the EF-24 doesnt have someone on the ground operating the decoys

lunar stag
last shore
#

i mean, is that a problem

#

i love carrier commad, most vtol players do

#

its a similar style of gameplay, but you are still using the plane in combat

#

just a mid line stealth bomber

#

and it could integrate another area of systems, like AeW or refueling

#

thats not in the post, but theres room for it to fit in

lunar stag
#

It sounds like it'll have less gameplay than a carrier (or an amphibious assault ship), since Carrier Command also lets you command unmanned ground units.

last shore
#

what do you mean by less gameplay

lunar stag
#

What is the gameplay difference between controlling a UCAV and a player-piloted aircraft?

last shore
#

you can be shot down and still participate in the fight

lunar stag
last shore
#

theres also the aspect of controlling multiple differently positioned aircraft simultaneously

#

not directly controlling 2 things, but giving commands to multiple things at once

lunar stag
#

So, what do players use to control these UCAVs?

last shore
#

either giving them various commands to interact with things or go places, or directly controlling their inputs through a hotas in the cockpit

#

the commands would include things like forming up, engaging, lasing, trailing at a distance, orbiting a point, etc

lunar stag
#

This doesn't seem any different than allowing the player to switch to an AI wingman and take over control.

last shore
#

it is, they are able to give very direct commands to a fleet of aircraft, which you cant just do in a normal aircraft

#

the other aircraft would be able to give some very basic commands, not at the same level of specificity as this

lunar stag
#

This would be the gameplay if players were allowed to switch to AI air units in the multiplayer lobby.

#

So this is less a bomber and more of a flying multiplayer lobby.

last shore
#

how did you come to that conclusion?

#

it takes traditional stealth bomber, and lets it smoothly control a fleet of small UCAVs

lunar stag
#

It functions not much differently than an existing multiplayer lobby.

#

Each player has a screen in front of them that they use to switch to a vehicle.

lunar stag
last shore
#

im saying that you can give commands to multiple at the same time

#

you dont need to directly control all of them

#

similar to CC2 where you tell certain drones to do certain things

lunar stag
#

Then you just need to add a feature to control AI units in the multiplayer lobby.

last shore
#

yeah, thats a given

#

this would expand on the limited control you have currently

#

every plane would get the comms menu like normal, this would have a display to give expanded functionality for that

#

balancing would be determined by the amount of drones put in the mission by the mission maker

cinder sparrow
#

Me yelling at my teammate for not being able to control all 500 drones properly in the mission

cinder sparrow
#

I feel like you could make a really fun boss fight type of mission with a huge amount of drones controlled by the player's bomber

#

And the rest of the lobby tries to take you down

#

Just a stretch though

compact girder
#

Another thing to consider is the ability to deploy say 1-2 decoy drones that the EF-24G uses as scouts to determine safe passages for the aircraft due to its lack of rapid maneuverability

last shore
#

carrying decoys that EF-24s can control after launching them is a cool idea

round tartan
#

I feel you would only need 2 people.

last shore
#

yeah, that's reasonable

#

it was left as 2-3 people

dark anchor
#

I don't think you'd ever need more than two people in vtol vr as the workloads are minimal

#

only time I see two people being needed is EW in the mischief and the heli because of gunnery/target acquisition being a pain from the pilot seat

last shore
#

kinda what I imagined

#

4 little drones that can hold a few missiles each

pulsar ferry
#

I would also like to add that there is already a friendly bomber plane, you just cant pilot it

#

the B-11

last shore
#

I am so very aware of that

#

I don't think it would work well for a player thing, it's very limited

#

incredibly situational

#

very cool though

last shore
pulsar ferry
#

no worries, and I agree it's situational

#

but it just shows a bomber might be more likely tha another plane

lunar stag
dusk bobcat
#

i actually didn’t even thing of the B-11 , but a DB-11 would make sense for this

#

instead of a separate design

mild elm

renamed to DB-32

The Tri-Service aircraft designation system is a unified system introduced in 1962 by the United States Department of Defense for designating all U.S. military aircraft. Previously, the U.S. armed services used separate nomenclature systems.
Under the tri-service designation system, officially introduced on 18 September 1962, almost all aircraft...

good

#

i'm a sucker for nomenclature

#

still needs a series number

pulsar ferry
#

Yay jank mods + more are back

last shore
#

good lord

#

I'm gonna try that out when I get home

pulsar ferry
#

No 2 seater yet :(

last shore
#

that's fine, modders aren't given the two seat code baha made

pulsar ferry
#

Unfortunately

last shore
#

I think it's a totally respectable decision, all the DLCs are multi crew

pulsar ferry
#

I understand why

#

It makes sense the baha doesnt want people to basically pirate dlc
