#100 degree tilt on AV-42C
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
also for aiming downwards, would be really nice for ground attack
To expand on this idea for controlling it, how about having the nozzles able to pivot for control yaw control? That way you can still have it to 90° and get the 100-110° bonus
On top of that, having it set to 90, full-throttle and braking would push it back to the max pivotable range
Sounds overly complicated
It really isn’t
nice…
And the brake thing is more a “oh shit I need to stop” or “oh crap I overshot” thing anyways
Tho with the latter one you can just… idk, pull up
YES PLEASE! So crazy the AV-42 and F-45 can't do this when both the V-22 and F-35 can. (F-45 doesn't need it, but the AV-42 desperately does)
Oh crap the V-22 does? I didn’t know that one
yup
it also helps with unnasisted back taxi
or at least it would in vtol
God yes
Me neither, but yeah it checks out
tilt the left engine to 100 right to 80 and spin
Yeah, they specifically show it off during airshows and such by making it "nod" at the crowd while hovering. (Or at least they did early on.)
Oh damn that’s actually cool af
Y'all should read The Dream Machine
I’m currently reading Skunkworks right now- wait how’d you do that with links
Oh
Oh shit that works on discord too?!
new-ish feature. But be careful using it on other servers. Many have it assume those links are phishing, so you'll get auto timed out.
Oh fair
(similar to how attempting to (at)everyone here will get you flagged)
I think it's the same
Ok good
What about @ there?
What about the @everywhere?
it’s always how did you sneak into the airspace or why you’re there never how is the pilot doing :(
90° is perfect for the 45 but av could use some more angle for sure
Agreed, tho having yaw control would be interesting too
please 🙏
true, though i dunno how that'd be implemented with the current control scheme. more use for rcs though
Just thought about this more, being able to “nod” would make strafing while hovering so much easier
being able to point 10 or 20 degrees down while hovering completely still would be cool
you can already point up, but both would be cool
IIRC the flight manual says it can go to 98°, and the Harrier tends to hover slightly nose-up so the effective angle is even greater than 98°
yeah that sound about right, 0kts hover is at 88 iirc in the AV-8B
Neat addition that could boost the av's a2g effectiveness would be what i call "auto-tilt" essentially just keeps the engines at 90° where the nose is angled up or down to keep it somewhat in place while hovering
Suicide-burns in vtol? Count me in
I'll add to this and say that if this was added in a way that it is manual only, there should be a "snapping" point at 90 degrees so you aren't constantly fighting to keep it there. Something as simple as requiring you to hold forward an extra half second would work
Eh, it's not that simple. Sometimes you really need to finely tilt between 80-100 for a trick.
I think an "engine tilt" vehicle option would make sense. Maybe:
- Limited: Tilting past 90 deg is impossible (behaves exactly how it is now)
- Snap: tilting stops at 90 deg. Release and reapply to move past it.
- Free: tilting is unrestricted across full range.
It should default to Snap
Having those options would be the perfect implementation, yeah
Something in vehicle options or a physical switch?
I'd love a new switch since most new settings have just been shoved into the MFD
MFD is less work, but I think either is fine. Maybe a knob instead of a switch though.
knob makes more sense, like the SAS knob
knob sounds perfect then
additional idea
autotilt
would make it so where as you slow down your engines tilt more and more until you are put into a hover
Honestly we have enough kestrel ideas on the top part of this page the next update could be a "SuperKestrel" as a DLC or a complete kestrel rework
or like a heavy kestrel thats not supersonic but carrys more weapons and is more high tech (almost 5th gen, or actually 5th gen)
VCAP for Kestrel when
doesnt it get autohover?
VCAP does landing?
I have never done a VCAP landing
gear down
I have done so many
they are fucking easy
gear down, throttle down
Hit VCAP
Throttle to the middle notch on the throttle indicator
I always just try and land it like a helicopter and nearly break my gear
Use the joystick for up down and roll
Rudders for yaw
no pitch
only up or down
The notch in the throttle is the carrier’s cruise speed
plane will slow down
And bobs your uncle
It's not roll, it's still pitch... It's just limited pitch
it is both limited roll and limited pitch
you tilt to move in a direction
I’ve always come in with my nose at +10 degrees above the horizon. That way 80 tilt is vertical and 90 tilt helps me reverse.
Yeah but, it's still called pitch
its not "up and down roll"
Thats not how that works.
aerodynamics come into play pretty quick
They said up, down, and roll
"No pitch, only up or down"
bro read the context
I was talking about when coming in to land. Less than 70knots
Ehh fair enough
Honestly this is a great idea
It’s pitch and roll. You said there’s no pitch, but you’re describing pitch.
And insults don’t help the fact that you’re wrong
Ad Hominem
You cannot control pitch with vcap.
You literally cannot
lmfao
It just moves you up and down vertically when you push and pull on the stick
You have ZERO pitch control
you only have YAW and some minor ROLL control.
Pushing forwards on the stick moves the aircraft DOWN, DOESNT push the NOSE DOWN
Lmao
You are in fact fucking wrong lol
🎣
Got him
???
was that supposed to be a rage bait?
If so it was pretty fucking bad
because this is literally just how I act all the time
🗿
Personal insults are not appropriate here
Ok
Doesn't VCAP make it so the stick pitch instead controls elevation?
It does
It removed all pitch control
All pitch input is directly translated into elevation
You only get roll input
I was thinking of the F45 where it still controls pitch, forgot it was the AV-42 which I never fly
Bro got pretty fucking mad for no reason tho
Kinda funny
No, it is for the F45A, AV42C doesn’t have VCAP.
Bro I literally control pitch in the 45 with it
VCAP changes pitch to elevation when hovering, whilst you gain limited roll, and maximum yaw authority
Apparently I need to go up and fly it again because that’s not how I remember it being a week ago
Idfk
if you push the throttle beyond the middle point yes it’ll be pitch
How am I still getting notifications I muted this shit
Bro
Bro
Brother
We're referring to when you press the VCAP button in the cockpit. Perhaps your thinking of basic engine tilt?
My brother in Christ
But at the middle point and below it’ll be elevation only.
Yeah the VCAP button at 90 tilt
Did you specify the middle point
the middle point of the throttle is SPEEDMATCH for the carrier and LHD
???
below it you’re in hover
which also uses elevation instead of pitch
I’m over here thinking I’m getting gaslight or I’m just wrong, but you just wanted to argue
It tilts the engine to move you forward instead of pitching your nose down
Once I’m home I swear I’ll just make guides to how to land and use vcap so people can stop complaining about how difficult vcap is
😭
Bro edited that message lmao

Throttle in the middle
Uh huh
ok stop, this is silly
Check when it was edited.
Stop being a jerk for no reason my guy
🗿
Like we are both right, just both out of context
