I don't know if baha has any high enough quality models of the OPFOR aircraft but I would imagine you could use the framework for the F/A-26B on the ASF-30 and then the F-45 for the ASF-33/58. If this was possible I would imagine you could also use the AV-42C framework for the GAV-25.
I pitched this idea to a lobby I was in a while ago and someone said it would be a good idea to make them similar to a Flaming Cliffs 3 DLC pack where the planes aren't super high quality (maybe something similar to the fidelity of the F/A-26B) but you get access to multiple aircraft with one DLC.
#Pilotable OPFOR Aircraft

Baha seems to prefer quality over quantity
He also seems to prefer more Western derived aircraft for the officially playable ones.
Also, keep in mind the part about playable aircraft from #faq
which part exactly?
The goal is to bring in at least a few completely new gameplay mechanics with each vehicle.
I mean the OPFOR in vtol is heavily reliant on drones/automated systems so it could give us an opportunity to overhaul AI interactions.
having new aircraft would also give players some new stuff to learn while also making pvp more interesting.
Playable opfor aircraft would realistically only be added if Baha has added everything he possibly could in terms of mechanics and wants to just give the players one last thing before he moves on to another project
did he explicitly say that somewhere??
No, but it's an assumption based on the fact that he's shown interest in only making western-style airframes playable
yeah but we've also only gotten a few playable western aircraft, and the first 2 were just to get something to fly to begin with
also pretty sure all opfor aircraft are canonically drones
no they have cockpits with glass
i don't think so
thats what i said too when i was told that
but someone said or showed me somethign to convince me don't remember what
well if you do then DM me and post it in here plz
AV-42C | Warthog x Harrier x Osprey
F/A-26B | Eagle x Hornet
F-45A | just an F-35
AH-94 | Comanche x Apache
T-55 | just an FA-50
EF-24G | Tomcat x Growler
They're all based off of western/NATO aircraft in one way or another
ehh, the "glass" is opaqe and there's no ejection seat
I already know that, I never said they weren't based off of western aircraft, just that we've only gotten a limited number of total aircraft.
So if it is manned, somehow they can see through the opaque glass and don't care about survivability
couldn't that opaqueness could just be because baha knew we wouldn't need to look into the cockpit since its ai?
In defense of the opaque glass, the F-22 (and in-game F-45) has the orange tint that makes it harder to see into, but the lack of ejection seats is pretty telling that it's probably just a drone
I mean yeah it is ofc, the ai 26b is opaqe as well, but im making a lore-argument for it being a drone
nah they just dont have ejection seats because of budget cuts
"just fucking die" -corporate
The ai 26b has an ejection seat
thats a really good point but i genuinely cant see why there would be any glass if the aircraft were drones. somehow baha has managed to put aircraft in a state of quantum superposition.
Unless Baha says otherwise, just assume that opfor aircraft are drones and won't be playable
I'd love to fly the ASF-58 too, but it probably won't happen
im not gonna make an opinion based off of conflicting data, ill just believe that it could be either one until baha confirms one.
the glass for blufor fighters are also opaque
yes
.
Too easy
read like a book
The blufor aircraft also have ejection seats
Opfor aircraft don't
that's because opfor doctrine has a ride or die mentality
"just fucking die" -corporate
ever heard about the 227? last i heard it still active with the opfor ||dont ban me plz||
He once said: there won't really be a point of adding a new vehicle that can only do the same things as the other existing ones.
can you get me the exact quote because i cant find that anywhere
This sentence was in the old FAQ. It was later edited.
well then i dont see how that applies. if it is still his opinion then why would he remove it from the FAQ?
The full text at that time was:
I don't have a timeline set in stone, but I am planning to release additional vehicles as DLC for a low price (about $10 as well). The next one in the pipeline is an attack helicopter. New vehicles will continue to be either entirely fictional and/or a fictional combination of real existing or conceptualized aircraft. (So no, I won't be straight up adding THE A-10. Sorry.) The goal is to bring in at least a few completely new gameplay mechanics with each vehicle. There won't really be a point of adding a new vehicle that can only do the same things as the other existing ones.
thanks but we dont know if thats still his opinion so i think i'll mark this post down as a "it depends what baha wants" post
how did you find that tho if it was edited, out of curiosity?
Many people have quoted that sentence whenever someone makes a similar request.
If OpFor aircraft were made, with different weapons loadouts, displays, menus, inputs, and capabilities, that could bring new gameplay.
For example, an aircraft using a phased array radar that could maintain multiple stt locks using high speed high maneuverability fox-1s would be interesting.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure baha has the missiles modeled and named in game (for asf-30 and asf-58 etc), he would just need to do a bit (which is actually a lot)
But that, meaning he would have to make cockpits, code, and IF to be added, model in TVC for the asf-58
In fact, OPFOR Aircraft in the game have even less capabilities.
ASF stands for Air Superiority Fighter. They are not equipped with a targeting pod so they cannot use AGMs.
The ASF-33 and ASF-58 cannot even be equipped with unguided bombs to attack any ground targets.
And the ASF-58 stealth fighter has no carrier capability.
GAV stands for Ground Attack Vehicle. It is a tilt-engine VTOL like the AV-42C, with no troop transport or carrier capabilities, and no turret guns.
They don't even have a fuel port for aerial refueling, nor can they dump fuel.
As stated in the #faq message , the goal is for each new vehicle to bring some new gameplay mechanics, not for them to have even fewer features.
If theoretically added, such would have to be implemented
Thrust vectoring, a new stealth aircraft (judging off the ASF-58 airframe), IRST, and DIRCM systems
Although that’s only for the ASF-58
This is, however, mostly based off real life mechanics the SU-57 has, and the ASF-58, being a modified SU-57 model, should theoretically have such
If it didn’t, then it would be a port not a new aircraft
DIRCM, TVC, and IRST would be game changers.
DIRCM would pretty much make the 58 immune to non advanced IR missiles (like the 9e or 9)
TVC would give the 58 a leading edge in dogfights and make it super-maneuverable
ISRT would allow the 58 to detect targets without giving off an RWR ping.
In addition, since it’s an OPFOR aircraft with a felon airframe, we can assume it’s a felon, the missiles it would receive would be new to the game in terms of mechanics
Some examples:
R27ET - Long Range IR missile (Used with IRST)
R-37M or R-37 (Very Far Range ARH missile - Mach 6 top speed)
So in other words we could get a IR missile jammer, supermanuverability, new long range missiles outclassing current ones (with new mechanics, and a IRST
All on the supposed ASF-58
This just sounds like an f-45 with long range fox-s's😅
Also it being "immune" to even normal aim-9 would be bad IMO
to be fair, it’s IR resistance is already non existent.
The F-45 doesn’t have 3d or 2d thrust vectoring either, nor the cool IRST
It's not traditional TVC but it's bleed air system also gives stupid amount of control at low airspeeds
And it has the EOTS for a makeshift IRST
Yes but this thrust vectoring, it’s oh boi
Besides, why would I want makeshift options when I can get a full badass option?
If a mod author can do TVC and missiles well I’m sure baha can if it’s ever considered
IRST should be a pod
it should be a pod for curent planes, not the cornerstone of a new OP aircraft
In that case I’m not sure what would have an advantage then, dedicated IRST or external
Oh anyways good night
#vtolvr_chat message that being said, I have no plans for TVC
Ah dang
Man I really hope the B-11, HB-106, GAV-25, ASF-30, ASF-33 and ASF-58 become flyable without mods one day, making these aircraft flyable would definitely add new gameplay options.
Because OPFOR MP is kinda pointless currently as it's only really good for 1v1s or Aggressor style missions, and yes I know there are PvP serves but it's all the same planes for both sides and it's kinda lame TBH, if the OPFOR planes were made flyable it would make PvP and non PvP missions really interesting, also making the Bombers flyable would also change some things.
