Probably because the bags are usually too heavy to keep on, and we're in the fight 3/4 of the time so dumping them is a safer bet to ensure survivablitity

But by all means, it should be possible just by this schematic alone

And in reality, when the fuel port is open, you cannot use the fuel in the external tank.

Since when you are ready to fill the external tank, you can't pump fuel out of it at the same time.

I was basically adding fuel to the internal tanks a second time so it doubled the speed lol
