#Large civilian airliner for escort/intercept missions
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Would be very useful for intercept, defend, traffic for ATC missions, and - importantly- an extra challenge for target ident. Civilian commercial air traffic is a common obstacle in modern conflicts and could be used as a fail condition for added challenge. Make sure you know what you are shooting before you pull the trigger or it could be game over!
Mach 2 at 60k feet, good luck intercepting that
it'd be scaled down for vtol sizes
i dont really think civilian assets should be in the game though
Mischief does that
The request is for civilian airliner. I don't agree with the detail of concord, that is just silly. A generico 757/A320 with optional cargo, military, and airliner skins would be fantastic.
Don't even need a new model. Just rip the the dish off the E4 and you're done
or the boom off the KC
i think just say it's a military cargo plane
and you're good
we can protend it's an airliner
Right, but the KC/E4 are chirping friendly IFF. In a real scenario, the airliner would show up as a bogey to both teams.
force detected because of ADS-B ?
they would never use ADS-B to ident irl. You could easily set the transponder in your SU-37 to say it's a southwest flight.
true lol.
Su-37 ?

i think it would be a war crime to do that.. but war crimes are more just war suggestions, so it would unwise for anyone to rely on adsb alone. You would look at signature return. Idk, i don't want to confuse players who see an E-4 when its supposed to be an airliner to avoid. Same with intercept/escort missions. Protect the president anyone?
The real problem isn't the model, it's the lack of "neutral" status
Why not?
is a arcade combat sim, having civilian things would just make units that you arent supposed to kill
and theres plenty of things that you can escort in game
i guess this is kinda semantic, but if there were a normal airliner type aircraft, it would be fine if it were just called a military transport
Arcade? Ace Combat is arcade, this is sim-lite. Besides, even AC has civilian escort/VIP missions
Can always use the refuel jet as a substitute
I don't agree with this in the slightest. VTOL should have a neutral affiliation which could be used for greenfor, non-combatants, or other unknowns. A game just has units: Trucks, planes, people. It is up to the mission designer to designate what those units represent. In the current system, a mission designer could still make a "shoot down the civilian airliner" mission and use a friendly refueling jet. Likewise, I could use a bunch of civilian trucks to denote "fleeing insurgents." It's not about just "units you aren't supposed to kill" (which IS an added challenge), it is the inclusion of ambiguity and forcing more challenge on the player to posivitely identify targets. Right now, that's just not a mechanic that a mission can have.
i dont feel very passionate about it, i just think that civilian units would just enable some really edgy jokes and other stuff, without really adding much to it
Feeling like committing virtual war crimes?
Play Project Wingman today!
im coming back to this cause ive thought of it a bit more, civilian looking units would be really nice to have in missions, as long as they are branded as team B/A units, such as military cargo/tanker ships and military cargo transport, i cant imagine that would make anyone uncomfortable to have, and it would fit within the current programming (he doesnt have to add a 3rd faction)
if you're looking for defenseless units, that can be made, but they should probably not be civilian units
is my mindset, i guess
Is this just going to be a large target to feed the missle cruiser
That defeats the purpose of having such units. A third "unknown" option adds ambiguity as a feature of the game - which is the whole point. It's not that these units are strictly to be considered "innocent civilians," It's that they are not clearly enemies. That is not a bad thing, it adds a new dimension.
First and foremost, Baha needs to seperate faction from the unit type - that should be selectable since right now, PVP can't really be balanced.
Second, an "unknown class" allows that extra ambiguity that could be useful in a variety of mission types. To prevent clear classification of them as targets, you could prevent ambiguous-type units from getting the "redfor" faction.
Finally, I don't think that the concern about "people making warcrime missions" is relevant. Players can currently make fratricide missions, but they really don't.
You can talk about all the bad stuff people can do with ambiguous units, but you don't think about all the cool peacetime missions people can make!!
Airshow?
Airlift?
SaR?
Car commercial?
Actually, civis would be fantastic for Baha - he could use his helicopter flight model for a black-hawk type helicopter with a whole list of peactime missions from police chases to firefighting to sea-borne rescue in a storm.
I agree with the first point of separating units from faction, that's a good idea that's floated around for a bit.
this is just a strong difference of opinion, It would take a lot to convince me
not that either way is right or wrong, I just don't see it going well
if the game was set up as any unit can go in any faction, then adding a third one might not be too bad, but idk the intricacies of thaf
If you punish the player for killing innocents (like failing the mission) there wouldn’t be an issue with like a school or hospital building lol
Why are we worrying about making people uncomfortable in a game that is a simulation of using a multimillion dollar war machine to kill people
Military simulation is military simulation
Imagine not adding civilians to arma because oh no they could die
Like yeah that's kinda the point
And regardless it's up to the mission designer
Exactly what I thought, if you make killing the civvies penalized then what is the issue? Also you could use the new units for many things
you can disagree with me, thats fine
but my opinion on this is really firm
i dont see how adding things that you arent allowed to shoot would make the game any more fun than it is
Do not hijack this suggestion or anything, I don't want any more of the arguing in here at all.
thanks :)
if people here want to argue about opinions on this suggestion please take it to dms as I want this honestly to be locked and archived.
This is a thing in 90% of sims, not to mention basically every shooting sport. Makes it where you can't just indiscriminately blow shit up, it creates a requirement for discipline and PID.
.
I know, but you read my last reply. That's all I care about :)
Your opinion sucks lol. Wah, the player could be a meanie in the military industrial complex highest bidder murder simulator
As I said earlier
please quit replying here.
take it to dms.

Not a concord tbh, i feel like that’s just silly. Like what shame said, added ambiguity is nice, and should be welcomed as a feature.
After doing some missions for civilian intercepts with a tanker, I now see why this would be nice to have
thas what I'm sayin'
give us the C-49
