ONE lap to go!
Kipyegon in front!
Faith Kipyegon has done it!!
Jessica Hull (AUS) the Silver, and Georgia Bell (GBR) the bronze!
Three Olympic GOLD medals in a row, and she did it with an Olympic Record of 3:51.29!
Hull's Silver is also Australia first ever medal in this event.
SHELBY MCEWEN
Wait, what's going on?
Oh, that guy. He's now guaranteed a medal!
Defending champ Barshim gambles by taking on a higher mark, but if he misses, he will be out in the Bronze medal position!
Barshim misses!
McEwan misses!
Right now he's in the SILVER medal position behind Kerr, but only just.
Kerr misses his first attempt.
Hamish Kerr is the first New Zealander to compete in this event since Sydney 2000.
Here goes McEwen.
He misses again!
Now it's back to Kerr.
Another miss!
Kerr misses again, but only just!
...and now it's last chance for McEwen!
Here he goes.
He misses!
If Kerr misses here, it will be a tie for gold.
Last chance for Kerr to win it outright.
Will this be a repeat of Tokyo?
Here goes Kerr!
More hyping of the crowd.
Kerr didn't even try!
Jump-off, or share the gold?
It will be a jump-off!
Overtime in the mens high jump!
"We jumpin"
Elsewhere, Haruka Kitaguchi has won the GOLD in the womens javelin!
Jo-Ane Van Dyk the silver, Nikola Ogrodnikova the bronze.
Reminder that we still have next the 4x400m relays to wrap up the track & field events.
Back to the high jump.
McEwen missed.
So what are the rules of the jump-off?
In a jump-off, they start at this current height, and keep going down until there's a winner. It's similar to a playoff in golf.
Kerr misses.
The height is now down to 2.36m.
McEwen at 2.36m missed!
Kerr has another chance.
These guys are getting gassed
Bad time for NBC to throw to a commercial.
Here goes Kerr.
He misses too!
We'll pause the jump-off for a moment, to run the final of the mens 4x400m relay!
Men 4x400
Away they run.
here we go
McEwen cheering them on.
YEAAAA
USA vs BOT for the 4x400m gold!
USA wins gold narrowly. New Olympic record.
LETS GO RAI!!!
Rai Benjamin got the better of Letslie Tebogo that time.
Hamish Kerr is the new High Jump Olympic Champion!
OMG, France got taken out mid-pack in that relay!
That leaves us hons with one more event: The womens 4x400 relay!
Great Britain gets bronze.
NBC finally getting around to the jump-off
So proud of my DMV representatives in these games, they have made the region berry proud.
that was tuff ngl
As it should be.
Ireland making their womens 4x00m debut here.
First time Ireland is in the finals for this event.
Away goes Sydney!
Three way for the silver & bronze!
No contest for gold here!
Meanwhile, it's all USA in the 4x400m womens relay!
Netherlands win silver, Great Britain get bronze.
The Netherlands got up for the Silver!
Ireland berry harsh to be left off the podium.
USA have won 11 of the 34 GOLD medals in this track & field meet!
Quite the contrast between the men's and women's 4x400m relays.
I was rooting for Ireland
U.S. men won gold by a narrow margin. U.S. women was a blowout.
Bur damn that was an ass beating
Ant is fucking ecstatic lmao
Victor Wembanyama at 20 already playing in the olympic gold match
he’s got a really bright future in the nba
Now it's time for the men's basketball final between USA and France.
starting lineup for USA
curry
booker
KD
lebron
embiid
Is Wembanyama starting for France?
Lebron scores the first points of the game.
But France answers with a 3 to take the lead.
Quite the intense start to this game.
wembanyama is hot, starting 2/2 from the field
yup
Well, that answers my question. Yes, he is in the starting lineup.
WEMBY STOP PLAYING WITH YOUR FOOD
If the game is as exciting throughout, I really don't care who wins.
i’m personally rooting for usa but i also like wemby and coulibaly so im conflicted
End of first quarter. U.S. leads by five.
First free throw for either team, and Lebron makes it.
Yabusele makes two of the first three free throws for France.
wemby a living cheat code bruh
USA leads 49-41 at halftime.
Ascension!! Congratulations Danketsu!
france has cut the lead 6
Halfway through the fourth quarter, and the U.S. leads by eight.
Lebron goes to the bench, and Durant comes on the court.
What a time for Curry to step up.
France had it all the way to one possession, but USA respond beautifully.
Durant makes two free throws to extend the U.S. lead back to eight. It was a one-possession game for a while there.
2:22 to go, FRA 79-87 USA
Two minutes to play!
Curry again wiht the 3-ball!!
Yooooooooooooo!
Steph Curry, hons!
FRA 84-93 USA with one minute left!
Wembanyama brings it to six.
But Curry responds in kind with another 3!
USA are gonna win the GOLD medal!
And Booker adds a dunk to practically seal it for the USA.
Batum has to come out because he drew blood!
Batum has some blood on his face.
Consecutive SILVER for France, but they gave the US a great battle.
The women can do it tomorrow
Now let's see if the women can do the same tomorrow.
Curry made more than double the points in the semifinal and final than in the first four games combined.
If you want a good breakdown of all the track events, this YT channel might be worth a watch:
https://www.youtube.com/@TotalRunningProductions/videos
oh yea and shoutout Wemby and Yabusele
they the only 2 who really showed up
it was a good match
Hell of a photo
That's an amazing photo
lmaooo
Amidst all the team sports gold medal matches, a historic sweep happened this morning as well.
With Cao Yuan (CHN) winning gold in men's 10m platform diving, China won gold in all eight diving events.
BREAKING this morn: https://www.espn.com/olympics/story/_/id/40818494/jordan-chiles-return-bronze-scoring-change-ioc-says
That really sucks.
Women's marathon results:
Gold: Sifan Hassan (NED) (New OR), Silver: Tigst Ossefa (ETH), Bronze: Hellen Ofiri (KEN)
The new bronze medalist for the womens floor exercise is Romanian Ana Barbosu.
Australia holds on to win the women's basketball bronze 85-81 over Belgium.
Italy wins the women's volleyball gold in straight sets. USA gets silver.
Women's basketball final is coming up in a few minutes.
That’s terrible.
...and so we've come to the last event of these games of the XXXIII Olympiad, the final of the womens basketball tournament.
Ah, do we know when the closing ceremony will be?
3pm EDT.
It will be LIVE on NBC.
...and then the next winter games for 2026 will be up the road in Milan.
Thank you!
As for right now, USA are up early on FRA with 98 seconds to play in this first quarter.
After 1, it's FRA 9-15 USA.
Relatively low score at the end of the first quarter.
France is piling on the offensive rebounds, but the U.S. is still up, by only two at the moment.
A shot from midcourt ties up the game.
Game is tied at 25 at halftime.
FRA have exploded out of the break, up 35-25 three minutes into the third quarter!
...and like that, USA halve that lead.
France led by ten early on in the second half, but the U.S. have come back and now lead by three.
Now it's tied up again.
After 30 minutes it's FRA 43-45 USA!!
End of third quarter, and USA leads 45-43.
...and so begins the last ten minutes of Olympic competition for 2024.
2:19 to go, it's FRA 57-60 USA.
TWO to go!
Willimas with a huge jumper, now FRA 59-60 USA with 92 seconds to play!
BTW, if the USA can hold on, they will be equal with China for most GOLD medals on this year's table.
China has 40 after sweeping the diving comps.
ONE minute to play!
Minute to go, and USA leads by three.
Williams (FRA) misses a three-ball.
Too soon for France to foul right now with 54.7 to play.
Again they miss a 3, and France are forced to foul.
Wilson rebounds and is fouled.
Wilson misses the first.
...makes the second!
Final timeout for France with 17.4 remaining.
@short karma USA will win it overall with 126 but they really want this last gold.
A foul by the US there, not what they needed.
Johanes makes her pair.
Foul
Johannes makes her free throws to bring it to two.
Kelsey Plum to the line for the two biggest free throws!
She makes the first!
Second is in too!
France with another 3
Williams makes a 3.
Kalyeah Copper on the line.
First one is good.
so is teh second!
Was that a two or three?!
USA holds on to win 67-66.
Last basket by France was a two-pointer. Williams's foot was on the line.
Astonishing finish!
Eighth straight gold for the USA women.
...and that means USA have equaled China on the GOLD medal count with 40!
Wow, both the French basketball teams were hard done by the US teams in the end there, but they will be a factor again in Los Angeles 2028.
Ohhhhh, Aja Wilson said the B-word!
Here's your final top ten medal count for Paris 2024.
Closing Ceremony in a few hours.
And Australia thought they were our rivals
rahhhh
Alright hons, what was your favorite moment(s) of competition for these Olympics?
For me it has to be on the track. Both of the 1500m finals were some of the best races in that distance that I've ever seen, and the hype did not disappoint.
Simone winning her gold
Imane overcoming the hate
Hocker stealing gold
The opening ceremonies
Usa women winning rugby bronze
Good choices.
ROFL, this French commentary: https://twitter.com/justinc_99/status/1822415769226936766
the curry threes to seal the finals
noah lyles 100m
simone all around gold
i was screaming at my tv on the first one lmao
Scandal!
LA28 introductory act at the closing ceremony featuring Tom Cruise, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre.
Extinguishing the flame was rather a disappointment compared to previous Games, transferring the cauldron's flame to a little lantern, and then bringing it to the Stade de France, where they promptly blew it out like a candle.
I found that cool
That contrast with thé ceremony
A follow-up to the floor exercise scandal: https://www.espn.com/olympics/story/_/id/40839414/arbitration-panel-reconsider-decision-chiles-medal
I feel awful for her
IKR
I feel bad for the Romanian girls too. but like Romanian fans are leaving vile, racist remarks to Jordan
This is just an awful situation for everyone involved.
Happy Paralympics!!
