I just tried out the CMF Headphone Pro and gotta say it got a pretty much similar sound profile to the Sony WH-CH720N.

I tested with no EQ since I have to download the app and I didn't want to. A build quality, plastic plus fingerprint magnet, just only a few minutes of trying the thing out my ears get pretty hot (a part that I just finished with playing maimai) I did not really recommend using this while working out.

In the range of ANC $100 headphones it's ok. I didn't try out the "bass scroller" thingy cuz it needs to be active via the app. Third party apps pretty much don't help with the sound quality, everything is just plain.

Trying out a few songs from rhythm games and it's a total abomination to listen to, everything is mixed together where bass kind of separates a bit the rest is 🗿. With ~70% volume I still think it's quiet, compared to CH720N which is way more louder.

Verdict: CMF Headphone Pro claimed to be "Best $100 ANC Headphones" I agree with that? it's bang for a buck, but if only focus on sound quality? No. I'd rather pick CH720N over this one even though it's $20-30 more expensive than CMF.

Side To Side Comparasion between Sony WH-1000XM4 and Sony WH-1000XM5

fyi. #1 I will use emoji to mark thing down (🟢 for XM4 and 🟣 for XM5)

fyi. #2 Every thing I said is stock sound, I may have mention EQ (after tuned) in specific part.

No.1 — Build Quality + Design
🟢 XM4 when holding I can tell it is pretty solid. It didn't feels like any cheap plastic because of the weight 256g (I guess?) since this is came out 4 years ago the design is pretty much the same as any generic headphone you see on the market.

🟣 XM5 in the other hand, design is way more modern, when holding side to side to XM4 is slightly lighter but trade off with the popular "hinge issue", this particular hinge is something that I could say it's fragile as hell.

Unlike XM6 model where the hinge has magnate support (I think?) when you twist it you can tell there is some kind of support into it.

Now back to XM5, there is no support is between the hinge it just follow the gravity which is major issue. However, it's unenviaable Both XM5 and XM6 when holding it feels like both the hinge and the head support can break anytime when you holding it. (Yes, contrast from the previous paragraph)

Verdict of Build Quality + Design
🟢 Sony WH-1000XM4 get a point.

No.2 — Sound Quality
🟢 XM4.

Bass : It delivers of what I can say full potential. It gives a lot of enegy which I enjoy it for around 1 or 2 mins then I have to crank bass down by -2dB. However, just my personal taste it would be better if stock sound actually sapaerate the bass layers out, not just a single chunk of something that kicks into my ears.

Mid : Vocals is very clear, I could tell it's pretty solid, no diving under the bass despite it's way louder. I forgot to test with male voice but female voices has no problem.

Treble : Another trade off point of this series. Treble sounds super muddy, it has no clarity, any bg noise like hissing sound or any effects that in this range is like you blend everything into one and you got what seemingly an abomination of treble. And even probably worse than any sub $100 Headphones I tried.

🟣 XM5.

Bass : If it's isn't bass kicking part in the song, this has nothing compared to XM4. In this range even with +5dB this is not helping at all. Bass still feel muddy but not that kind of muddy in my opinion, some may find this probably sweet spot but, once again, I wish it was better.

Mid : Vocals are clears, although singer kind of hide under the layer of bass a bit but with EQ tune by +1dB or +2dB everything will be fine.

Treble : In this range, I could say they done pretty good job, effects, any hissing sound is actually there not drowning under the Mariana Trench.

Conclusion
If you want something that gives you energy go with XM4 and that's no brain choice. But if you want more details go with XM5.

Verdicts of Sound Quality
🟢 XM4 takes another point. Although, XM5 is also acceptable but very nieche, consider by the majority of consumer.

No.3 Comfort

🟢 XM4 is an old model but if you want something that is fits around your head and feel sturdy, this is the option. Although, I'm pretty sure wearing it for a period of time, it will surely become uncomfortable. The pads and the headband surely after a few years of using, it will disinigrate like Thanos snap.

🟣 XM5, in my opinion, it's way way more much comfortable, pads and headbands seem to not wear off that easily (I guess?). Wearing for the long period of time I think it's not really a problem. If compared to XM4 is this better.

Verdict for Comfort
🟣 XM5 got the point here.

Conclusion

Both deliver different sound stages while the XM4 is aim into the bass and XM5 is aiming at Mid-Treble, both is amazing but like I said there's always a trade off point.

I'm not going to say which one is better since both ahs trade off point.

🟢 go for XM4 if you want something handy and won't break easily. The only downside you may have to deal with is treble.

🟣 go for XM5 if you want something that is balanced, detailed. But you have to deal with the hinge (well, both user issue and company issue) and lack of bass impact.

Extra if you want XM5 and your budget is not a problem just buy XM6 and you will be fine.

hey guys, i bought my gramma on jul 19 2024 a sony WH-CH520 headphones, but they seem to have died from being charged everyday, the guaranty on the amazon page says is 2 years, but id like to know if there are better and/or more durable options for bluetooth headsets instead

Nothing Headphone (a) reviews

Went outside and touched some grass today, so maybe a good time to try this one out. Although I kind of forgot to test something out since I'm with my friends.

(as usual no EQ tuned, 80% volume)

Comfort:
The headphones body, it's had some weight in it when holding in my hand, for me not really a choice if I have to bring this everywhere.

Bass:
Overall I'd say it is pretty solid, you get that punchy kick in your ears, however, the kick that punches into my ears feels like a somewhat glass shard-ish but I think with some EQ tuning could be better.

Bass Verdict: good but could be better.

Midranges:
For vocals, when I first tested with the song that had no vocals, I thought the bass was going to cover up all the vocals but for female vocals is pretty clear. For male vocals on the other hand, I have that feeling that is kind of under the surface.... to elaborate this feels like there's an extremely small layer that covers the vocal up.

For instruments, is not that distinctive level where you can hear each instrument play separately, but it's not that level where everything is mixing together and turning into a fucking abomination sounds of mids.

Mids Verdicts: ok I think...?

Treble:
After I tested a few headphones, I swear the god they have one thing in common is super sharp noise that piercing into my ears. For background noise/effect, is barely noticeable. Just tune the thing down for a little bit.

Treble Verdicts: ehh kind of mid.

Overall Verdicts:
Despite everything bad points about this particular headphones, for the prices listed around sub $200, I think it's one of the choices that you would not regret if you bought it. With some EQ tunes is fine.

If you like sharp sounds this is the one I would recommend.
