Yea, you have a point, but honestly, I think the map is done and they won’t change anything. We don’t know which part it will be finally, but since they said all really enjoyed it when they tested it, does it even matter? As long as it’s a good map, we’ll take it

Very atmospheric photos. If this map were published, I think it would be difficult to convey the atmosphere of a Soviet military city.

Yea, but the vast portion of the map is done, they wont bother to change the entire location now. I also don’t get what you mean with “good” eastern front maps, sure, they are not as often played as Normandy but they aren’t bad. Kharkov eg is a great map. The map will be great I think, it doesn’t matter where in the city it’s set. And after that, please make a map in an entirely different location and not the same city.
After a PTE they will polish the map, but not move it to an entirely different area.
And according to the “leak”: I’m not sure if it was an official map, but if (which was the case for Tobruk and Elsenborn), that’s where the map will be set. And I would assume it’s an official one because it apparently was dragged from the files

The same issue will arise from Smolensk too. Urban isnt always a guarantee for close quarter combat, just look at Stalingrad. You know why SME and SMDM are more often in rotations? Because these are classics, the people prefer the factions, HLL kinda was intended as mainly Western front USA vs Germany,...
They could release a map comparable to those and it would be still less played. Just look at Kharkov, it was supposed to be SMEs equivalent on the Eastern front. Is it played often? No. Is it played rarely? No. Atleast in my experience the eastern front maps are not as often played as Carentan or SME, but still more often than PHL, Hill 400 or El Alamein. But coming back to the original topic, the map will likely mostly release as the leaks have shown. PTEs are there for finding issues in the created map, not to check if the basic area of the map will fit. So as long as the area we get plays out great (according to the devs it does) and it will be a good map, everything is fine. Its not about aestetics, its about gameplay. Just wait, in a few hours we will know more.
@fossil otter Even if there was a "Carentan at the Eastern Front", it still wouldnt be played as much as the original. And no, moving a map isnt that easy. The new map is most likely almost finished and wont be changed much until release

Yes, but they aren’t ready for being in the actual map itself and would need tons of work.
There are plenty of unique maps, so one Smolensk is enough. Other battlefields deserve love too (if we get more because we all know what will come in 2026)
@fossil otter I don’t really get what Normandy maps have to do with this. The eastern front doesn’t need multiple maps from one area. The two American maps in 2024 are debatable, yet the British needed some work, more than the Soviets. What “Main areas?” The devs try so each map feels unique. They have their reasons why they chose this location, and no, it will most likely not be changed. Just wait until the evening. It isn’t just a few assets. It’s a massive amount of work. And again, what “good eastern front maps?” We have them. They are just not as often played because people prefer the Americans.

Like perfect - both of the northern, and southern sector would be inside. + Some part of walls, and 4 towers include. It would create the visibility that the map is more rich in design wise. And unique.
- Equal distance between the Dnepr river, nobody would redeploy to another HQ to move faster. Battle would go alongside the river, than it’s on some distance from the borders, it would work perfect for river combat, between 2 sides.
That was the point of Smolensk, Germans built the defensive lines and positions on the Western side of Dnepr river, cause it created the height and observation. Map is horizontal and it would be in game balanced for each side.
Smolensk it’s famous for those walls, not for the factory or railway of course. So would be fair to include some towers and little part of walls inside.
Of course those points where were no existed photos on northern side, would fulfill by woods, and other stuff, which doesn’t make Smolensk better. Btw they exist on forum but needs comparison to add them, but possibly it’s destroyed houses or ruins on the bold ground.
Please include at least some part of southern side!!!
We can get that railway on any other map, if almost on the each map.

I’ve rechecked the NORTH side and it’s still looks great!!! If it’s possible just please leave this area with out much destruction! And remove that monument on the Southern side, it would be anachronistic it were houses!
Just an a great idea! For RAINY & OVERCAST weather variations - please make this area specific - all towns on river became under flood in rainy days! So it would be great, if we would have a bit more bigger puddles on the streets during the rainy. It would reflect Smolensk area and the eastern front! And would be so unique!

Insignia of Normandie Nieman ( French squadron from Soviet side )
German squadron “Immelmann”
Jünker-87 and Stukas insignias.
If it’s 1943, in 1943 in the day of the battle, was in the same moment the battle of the sky on Smolensk - Normandie-Nieman fought with German planes in sky.
