#Arty "Hotfix" Idea

Hi,

i was just thinking about the recon-arty-meta having been playing both a lot the last few days and it can get frustrating very fast for both sides spawn camping/getting spawn camped while i still know that arty has to be kept in check to not become dominat.

So how about until T17 comes through with the promised arty rework how about we as a community decide that we limit the use of arty to only 1 piece/gun crewed by 2 people but also forbid recons killing/camping them until the fight over the last sector starts? I think a similar system is already set up in some competitive games.

This way arty still remains effective if they aim somewhat well without being to dominant and recons don't have to camp them the whole round and can actually do recon stuff. Plus points for commanders who save munitions this way.

The only exception for recon to kill arty earlier would be if they try to dismantle nodes in middle hq and a fight evolves from that although you could add another rule that recons aren't allowed to shoot first and have to try the sneaky way which often succeeds anyway as a lot of arty players tend to get "tunnel vision".

I know that this would only be possible on actively moderated community/clan servers and it if this idea would really take off would take quite sometime for the playerbase to adjust with the expected arguing ingame etc if someone does not adhere to this but i think in the end it would be worth it until T17 comes through with the arty rework together.

I was literally just thinking of this and made a new suggestion on it here’s my idea, to solve this problem I suggest adding howitzer tanks, many versions existed for all sides of the war and played major parts in the battles, make it work the same way as artillery just in a mobile package, most of these vehicles where lightly armored with open air designs. So if recon wants to kill the artillery they will have to find it, the artillery tanks could also be used to as another way to kill heavy tanks easier

Arty is OP but not game breaking ATM so I believe it deserves at least a patch for it's rework.

They should make a new Mortar Squad like the Recon/Armor/Infantry Squads

1 - 7 Man Mortar Squads

  • Squad Lead

  • Mortar Carrier “Sighter”
    Mortar Support “Loader/Gunner”

  • Mortar Carrier “Sighter”
    Mortar Support “Loader/Gunner”

  • Mortar Carrier “Sighter”
    Mortar Support “Loader/Gunner”

Loadouts:

  • SL: SMG, Binoculars, Watch, Bandage

  • Mortar Carrier: Mortar, Rifle, Bandage

  • Mortar Support: “Mortar Supply Box” (to build Mortars ONLY) Rifle, Bandage

Rounds:

  • Smoke
  • HE
  • Illumination Flare (For Night Maps)

That would make it 57 vs 57 but you could add 1 more tank crew or 1 new tank destroyer , for 60 vs 60

@blazing mural I agree that arty needs to be moved into it's own squad category like armor or recon but i doubt an increase in player count for both teams will happen but changing arty to mortar squads or to self propelled artillery like another one here suggested would be very welcome. And i guess my proposal could work as bandaid fix until these changes are implemented to avoid the current worst parts imo.

Flare shells for mortars are a nice idea, but it could be to strong. Having 3 mortars who shot like 60 shells per minute and are able to spoot on there own sounds really op.

@hallow thunder Nah, people could just respawn so it would only be a cooldown of like 30 sec and one flare pro mortar is kinda boring.

Best way in my opinion is to make it expensive (like 50 to 100 ammo) or just give it a cooldown. Sadly both options are still boring af but better if you ask me...

Honestly, arty just needs to get removed and made a commander call in. And replace the player used arty with deployable mortars which have less range and need to be placed using supplies
Would be more fair to counter since anyone could hunt down the mortar emplacement and destroy it instead of spawn camping hq
