#M1 Garand could have slower manual reload

It’s possible to manually reload the M1 Garand before having expended all ammunition, but it’s much harder than just yanking back the charging handle. In reality, pulling the charging handle won’t remove the clip but will just cycle the next round. To offset the obvious advantage the M1 has over the K98 I think it would be good to make the M1 have a longer manual reload animation where the avatar is really working out that clip (which is correct). This would make it so American players need to weigh the option of reloading to a full 8 rounds and risking getting caught in the reload.

I'm for this. I think that currently the semi-auto rifles are too strong in this game. A slightly slower reload would be a good nerf. Also make the reloads for the SVT-40 and G43 slower too.

Irl, both the SVT and G43 were typically reloaded by two 5 round stripper clips instead of swapping mags so that could be a good nerf to the other semi-autos

add garand thumb to make garand more balanced

The US didn't develop and bring a semi-auto to make the war "fair". The M1 Garand is fine as it is.

I think that they should take out the M1 Garand and make the US only have the 1903 to make it fair.

You’re missing the point. The M1 manual reload is inaccurate. A slower manual reload would balance the weapons and make Americans weigh the options of risking a lengthy reload or waiting until they’ve expended all rounds.

It’s not inaccurate tho, it’s physically how you have to and GIs were taught to reload the M1 if you plan to put a new clip in if the bolt is not locked open for emptying the previous clip

They could do something like insurgency sandstorm where you double tap the reload button to do a fast reload (drop the mag/ eject all the remaining rounds) or tap the reload button once and do a slow normal reload. I think that would work well in HLL, we might need a rework of the ammo system for it to work however.

It is balanced. American semi-autos are better than Germany’s rifles, and Germany’s machineguns are better than American MGs…

Or how German Panzershreks are better than American AT.

If you feel that the American faction has an advantage over Germany, you’re wrong.

The Garand reload is already pretty realistic but it could be slowed down for balancing purposes. In real life no German or Soviet soldier would have 10 mags for their G43 or SVT-40. The Germans were in kind of a pickle from 1943-1945 and to save resources only at most issued 3 mags with each Gewehr 43. The SVT-40 was the same way because quality control was so poop in the Soviet Union they had to hand fit each mag to each SVT. They could not reliably make all the mags the same dimensions.

I think the regular reload is fine. I’m talking about reloading before having expended all ammo in the current clip, which is a lengthier process. Reloading after the ping i think is ok.

The partial reload is fine, it’s exactly how it should be done, US soldiers don’t carry spare bullets outside of the clips to reload the internal and the clips are a Dime a Dozen. The rest of the US Gear is nerfed into oblivion compared to it’s function in real life so why should the Garand be as well

The devs don't necessarily have to nerf the semi-auto rifles to make them feel less OP. A big problem with this game is map design. Many maps are super open without much cover and encourge slaughter via MGs or sem-auto rifles. The devs could either add cover to maps or make new maps more urban or with more cover. Just look at the night maps where engagements are closer. On those maps because of the fog, the semi-auto rifles and MGs feel less dominant and weapons like flamethrowers and submachine guns feel more useful.

I disagree the urban maps make congestion for MGs and close combat favors semi autos, the longer range, even more open maps even the playing field. It comes more down to skill than weapons at that point.
