#Fox Holes

All players should have the ability to "dig" fox holes. To do this they would simply equip their shovel (or knife if you don't want to add a shovel to some factions). If physically digging into the map is too hard you can make it like a blueprint where the fox hole is like a low circle of dirt/sandbags that appear on the map once a player starts to build. To keep it from being OP make the timer be like 30 to 45 seconds. These should be big enough for one man no more.

I’d love foxholes, would like trenches too but I doubt that’s coming

Agreed, I feel like engineer could be so much more efficient, with things like watch towers, fox holes and more. As it is now they can only build walls, bunkers, and barbed wire. Even then I rarely see engineers fortify a point, only time I see it is when playing offensive and the team is defending

Regular rifleman should be able to place a single foxhole

I always fantasize about digging a foxhole. Then building walls or putting sandbags around it to create a real fighting position. Would make for a nice MG position as well. A foxhole with walls protecting fire from the flanks? YES.

Doubt the game engine will allow this

Would love the engineer to get the ability to do this. Hope it comes with the Mortar update the support class gets @frigid pelican 👀

Absolutely love this idea, will pass it on!

Engine this engine that, if the engine is so bad they need to replace it

I mean ya gotta make some concessions to make it work with the game and game flow. They probably won't be able to adjust the time from map to map and honestly as long as it protects from bullets that'd be the minimum. Arty and Tank fire would be a plus

I’d rather have buildable foxholes first with some sandbags maybe, and maybe with 25 supplies you can make it bigger or add a camo canopy and some more sandbags

I think to summarise this idea in general I can say thank you for all the free kills. It would just be absolutely useless or how do you imagine that with things like artillery, tanks or AT Rockets. You're not even safe from arty in houses. Also that it should take between 30 and 45 seconds. In 90% of the cases you are already dead.

I really don’t think ur getting I’ve jumped in plenty of shell holes and trenches and been saved from artillery and bombing runs, and besides those a foxhole provides great cover from enemy gunfire, especially if you have just take an enemy position and need some quick defenses. So the “easy kills” is more than likely going to be you underestimating the value of infantry in dug in positions

You say fast but the construction time is 45 seconds. Really fast. Of course you can search for covers in a shell hole. But normal cover like a hedge, wall and house is more than enough. By the way, here you can change your position. Every halfway good player will give you a headshot if he already knows you are in a hole because you can't reposition yourself. Besides, it will just attract the attention of tanks even if you don't show yourself. Because it's player made and there's probably someone in there.

Could argue the same thing for bunkers but yet those are still very useful structures, any player built structure is going to “draw attention” but adding foxholes provides a more diverse set of building items as well as making the game have a more interactive historical aspect. Alongside this it’s useful to the game. Maybe make building foxholes construct as fast as barbwire or maybe give them sandbags so it’s not as easy to shoot into them and HE rounds landing close by won’t kill you if ur standing behind the small sandbags on the edge. Idk but all I know is I can see this being a really fun and cool addition to building items in the game

You have to be realistic and consider the development team size. AFAIK it's around 20 people + 10 for console so we can hardly expect them to transfer the entire game to a new engine.

It's been months since British and they're still not fixed. How long for fox holes? I don't think it's realistic. Would love to be proven wrong.

Well if you fire a tank round into a trench it still kills infantry. If artillery is close enough to the trench it kills. Also it needs to be balanced. You can't reasonably dig a hole in 10 seconds (it's not fortnight) and anything longer than 45 would disrupt game flow. As far as terrain goes like i said make it a blueprint that doesn't cost supplies. And as far as being a sitting duck goes yea that's what happens in a hole. It's cover but if your pinned your pinned. Throw smoke

this should be rifleman only with a blueprint and maybe different sizes that take different amounts of time to "build"/"dig"
