Hey Team17 and Cover 6, I know there's been a lot of backlash from folks here on the discord and online. I wanted to take a couple of moments to gather my thoughts and explain why I myself-and probably many others-are upset and disappointed.
The main issue I see with the latest trailer and patch is that they are symptomatic of a larger internal problem. It's not that the trailer didn't meet our expectations, it's not that the latest faction release was bumpy; it's partly that and partly the overall feeling we're getting.
You've set an aggressive schedule to release new content each month, and while as a player that is exciting, if that content is buggy or unfinished it's almost better that it didn't come out at all.
We love this game, we want it to do well, we want to see you succeed. But, in order to do that you need to set realistic expectations for yourself. Take the time you need to release polished content, reassess the release schedule, delay if needed. Please delay. I know you want to see an immediate return on your investment, but if you keep going on this current trajectory you won't. You need to earn back the community, the next update and release.
As a community that loves this game you also owe it to us to explain why you're making changes, why was the movement speed tweaked? What's the strategy behind that choice? You talked about more open communication, let us know why you're choosing to do things. This community loves this game for specific reasons, and if you're going to make changes to how it plays we need to know why.
I know that this post is long, but I wanted to get all my thoughts out there. I hope you take this in the way that it's intended, as well-meaning constructive feedback.
TL;DR
- The latest releases are symptomatic of a larger internal problem
- Reassess your release schedule, delay if needed. Quality over quantity
- Explain the reasoning and strategy behind your changes to core gameplay mechanics
Thanks for reading 🙂
