Add the ability to use gas and gas artillery for a very high cost and add gas masks

Was there not tear-gas or other kinds of chemicals warfare?

Gas masks were given and i believe some countries did have chemical weapons but even the nazis were afraid to use then outside of the holocaust

I think they just didnt use gas because it wasnt tactical, infantry and tanks would move away before the massive gas clouds would reach them, and I believe that near the end of ww1 gas was considered not as effective because of advances in gas masks

Pretty sure nazis never used gas because Allies would use it also, it’s a reason both sides wanted chemical warfare banned after world war 1, way too brutal. Even though this is the case both sides still armed their soldiers with respirators/gas masks, but neither side wanted the be responsible for using chemicals.

WW2 was a mobile war, WW1 (where gas was used) was very static in the west, so it led to a technological race of both sides trying to develop new ways to break through. This included various gases, which didn't actually account for much of a body count compared to standard artillery but could be incredibly terrifying and demoralizing. Anyway, different war, different context, different tactics.

Also there's already quite a lot of ww1 games out there with realistic gameplay, having a realistic ww2 one is good

Hitler didn’t want to use gas during WW2, he was injured by gas and didn’t want any possible friendly fire

Yeah, there are 4 of them. 3 are WWI Series, which I enjoy for the low budget jank they are, but are still just that. The other is Beyond the Wire, which I love but is in a sorry state right now (if anyone has it, we do a play session every Saturday 1pm EDT on the BR1 server).

I don't think there is going to be another attempt at a more "realistic" or "hardcore" WWI shooter for a long time. BTW and Isonzo are the latest examples. Isonzo has a steady 150-250 players on PC, BTW is reduced to a small group of weirdos like myself once a week, and that game was fully acquired by OWI. There is simply no reason for anyone trying to make a dime to try it right now. It's a niche period within a niche subgenre of FPS where even people who prefer more realism get mad at bolt actions being dominant in bolt action wars. Even HLL chose to veer from the historical path to make way more semi-autos and automatics available because that is unfortunately what a lot of people want.

That green cylinder the German carry is for there gas mask they where issued but the lack of gas attacks made that basically into a personal storage container for smokes, snacks personel belongings etc.

Many ended up ditching their gas masks into amnesty bushes all over Europe, the canister made a great storage container
