It’s disappointing to see, after the awful mismanagement of AAA businesses in the gaming sector, that game studios continue to fail in gathering such basic insight such as community suggestions. Especially in the case of games that focus on historical timelines, there are plenty of nerds who would be more than happy to provide the necessary facts to develop a good update.
This update, while welcome as we haven’t had anything major in so long, has clearly shown the community that the research done to facilitate the era you’re bringing to life is lackluster at best. There’s been many great points made, primarily being:
-
Driel was occupied by Polish paratroopers, not even the British. It’s been widely praised that the new development team intends on representing Polish forces in HLL, but immediately undermines their efforts in the war by overlooking one of their victories.
-
Including completely inaccurate armor in Africa. While this is not a huge deal, not including some of the most iconic tanks of the British forces during the war such as the Matilda or the Churchill is disappointing. We didn’t want to see another Sherman.
-
The layouts of the control points and another bridge map are astonishing decisions. Remagen is widely despised and is largely absent from map rotations for a reason in most servers for the most part. While the new concept is better, there were many other great options for maps.
I think it’s a failure of the Community Manager and the management for not actively pursuing the insight of the community on what we’d like to see in the next major update of which we’ve all been dreaming for. We had plenty, but none of them were received or delivered. On top of that, the update which we now have was also not developed under the consideration or suggestion of the community. And this is all ignoring the fact that the game is still ridden with bugs and problems which we’ve all been somewhat willing to look past due to our hopes of a major update.
