When tanking in HLL it's best to just dump any preconceived notions you have on how tanks work based on real life or in other games, it's its own thing and stuff just works how it works.

What does the HLL community consider an ok way to counter artillery? had a game earlier where we went after the enemy arti, but since they're located at HQ spawn you're automatically spawn camping which made me feel scummy.

Since spawn camping is frowned upon but the artillery is at spawn I'm not certain what wouldve been the clean way to handle that

What's the deal with VIP slots? I join a server with room for 15 players but it says there's no slots for non-vip players

So a server can have unlimited VIPs (queue preference over those without) but they can also set aside X slots that only VIPs can join

So if they set aside 15, only up to 85 non VIPs could join to leave spots for VIPs, otherwise if it was 100/100 they would be queued regardless of VIP status.

There are two choices, one if cheap and shitty and the other is expensive and okay but has limited server locations.
I'm West Coast Canada and I don't ping under 120 to the Central or NYC Datacenters, I get like 70 to the LA one which is atrocious.

TLDR:
The partners you guys use for your community servers suck, give us more options.

Besides original two, G-Portal & Nitrado (your description fits to both - shitty), there are GTX Gaming, LOW.MS and Streamline Servers. Me and many others can vouch for GTX Gaming. It has been a true blessing. We changed from G-Portal to GTX Gaming in November 2020 when they were added to the list (first having tried Nitrado too). And I can tell you... year 2021 has been great compared to what we used to have with G-Portal. Without GTX I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't be here as I would had been burned out with all the server issues we had with G-Portal in our first year of hosting.

Feel free to hit me up in DM if you wanna chat more about the subject.

I have suggested they would add a server hosting information in this Discord with the above listed - why it's not done, I don't know. Probably G-Portal & Nitrado has paid for exclusive promotion. For example when you click "Rent a server" in-game server browser, it directs to G-Portal. Must be paid. Below was suggested year ago in #pc-feedback when 3rd GSP was added.

If it was an official server, I'm not sure that stuff is enforced in any way, better to play on community servers with active admins.

and if it was through text chat the admins will have logs of that, but not voice chat, it's best if you can record stuff to give proof to people if you're making a report to a server admin.

A lot of community servers have an associated discord as well as in game reporting methods so you can summon an admin without even leaving the game.

Actually there is. Report to the admins of the specific server, they will likely share the information between other server owners (that's what we do). In most cases, if you get banned from one place, your details are shared to other server owners who will ban you as well.

AP mines are a little harder, not sure about the shapes on those but AT mines are all very distinct looking.

Soviet AT mines are a green square box, US ones are a circular shape with what look like handles on top, and German mines are circular pancake looking ones.

You can destroy friendly mines, you can shoot AP mines with bullets and they'll blow up, AT mines require an explosion like a grenade to destroy.

You can always tell if a mine is friendly or not though by pulling up the map where you are and zooming in, friendly mines (both AP/AT) are marked on the map.

Commander spawn in, not sure what the cool down is but it's not very long, you get that free one at start, they'll never auto spawn again after that, but the commander can spawn them in at any of the spawns they want, assuming the team is under the vehicle limit, they come with 2 crates of 150 supplies each and can be refilled at spawn at the ammo resupply crane that fills up tanks.

You know for all the hate people (justifiably get) for taking the supply truck on a safari around the map to no ends, there's no real reason that you need that for starting garrisons (even though it's useful) because every single transport at the start should have an SL and a support player in it and they're all going to the front so they can kick start two attacking garrisons and a defending one, leaving the truck for nodes, or the commander to build back up garrisons on the 2nd point.

Go hog wild, community servers will list their rules on the deployment screen over to the right, as long as you abide by those you'll be fine.

People want people to play on their servers or there'd be no point to having them.

A lot of community servers have a discord associated with them, and admins you can contact if you have issues, and if you find community servers you enjoy playing on many of them offer VIP (you get preferential queue access to the server as opposed to non VIPs so it's easier to get in), generally if it costs anything it's not more than a couple of bucks a month.

Then we jump in our tank and have done our part

In pub games, better of getting everyone on the first point.

Really just depends on who you run into, people are people.

Did you have questions about anything in particular in there?

Essentially the game boils down to your team building spawns and destroying the enemies spawns, that's what enables you to either capture or hold onto territory.

In warfare (the territory capture mode where you start with the middle point neutral and the game is over at 90 minutes, or if one team caps all 5) you really can't go wrong by hanging out with your squad in the cap zone (each capturable point has 4 surrounding squares that count as the capture zone)

Yeah so you have OPs, which are built by your SL and only your squad can spawn on, garrisons which are built by squad leads or the commander and the entire team can spawn on, and half tracks (a vehicle) that anyone can spawn on, plus airheads that are a commander drop, which again anyone on the team can spawn on.

Garrisons can only be built with supplies though, which come from a truck, the commander or ideally a support player in that squad.

Yeah if you run into rude people just find a new squad, they exist but they do in any game.

If you have a mic, and are listening to squad chat, you really can't go wrong by going support and going where your SL wants you to go to help build garrisons.

If you find a squad that's defending rather than attacking it can be easier to get a grasp as to what's happening too because enemies will be coming to you more than you going to them.

If you pay a little bit of attention to the map, and where you are and make sure that you're always somewhere that helps the team (either defending your point, or attacking their point) and not just in the middle of nowhere, you're going to be doing at least as well as the median player.

Which game mode would you suggest is the easiest to get the hang of?

Well, offensive is a bit more concentrated than warfare, warfare can be a bit more spread out but defensive is a bit more punishing in that once a point is gone it's gone forever.

Offensive is one team is only attacking, the other team is only defending, 5 points, attackers have to cap every point to win, they get 30 minutes per point, and the clock resets with each point they capture.

Attacking on offensive might be about as 'simple' as the game gets, in that you only have one point to worry about, you don't have to defend, and you are either in the strong point or not (on offensive you only count for capturing the point in the strong point, on warfare it's strong point + 4 surrounding grids).

But you have to be prepared to die, and die a lot, there's a big defenders advantage in game (in terms of shooting people) because it's a lot easier to see movement, and on some maps, depending on what objective layout you get attacking can be a bit of a grind.

Warfare is more forgiving in that you can recapture points that are lost, but I think it probably takes a little bit more game knowledge to be able to look at the map and get a grasp on what's going on and whether you should be attacking or defending.

I'd recommend playing on community servers, most of them are going to have active admins to take care of problems like team killing/etc. and associated discords if you want to play with other people that way.

There should be a pretty decent number of EU servers, you might want to check your server filters.

Generally it's kind of hard to get into full servers because of the queue system, but if you find a server with say 40-80 people on it, it's going to be easy to get in, and will also typically fill up pretty quickly if it's not off hours for your region.

Rifleman is also fine but support is really just a rifleman that can also put down a box of supplies, so that's pretty handy.

experienced players can give good advice, a really competent SL can turn around a game

A positive to rifleman is there's no limit on how many people can use it in the squad, everything else is 1 per, so you aren't blocking anything if someone else wants to use it and you aren't sure what to do.

and you generate just as much cap weight as a rifleman as you do with any other role.

and you typically don't want to be fighting on top of your spawns, you're going to lose them if you do that, so try to push out from the spawn and get some map control around them, garrisons are locked when enemies are too close (15 meters?) and OPs are destroyed by the enemy just being in proximity

Depends on the queue size, a server with 40 to 80 people you should be able to join immediately and should fill up quickly if it's not off hours for that servers region.

Ping is a good thing to look at, and if they restrict comms to certain languages, beyond that it's personal preference really.

Community servers will have varying rules, I'd recommend playing on those so you can get admin intervention as needed.

It's generally better and easier to seed a partially full server than to try to get into a full queue.

When I shoot to kill an enemy how do I know if the enemy is dead when they are a far apart fr viweing thru tab personal stats

That's about it, you either get a headshot noise, see them collapse or watch your points, you don't actually get credited a kill until they die, either from a headshot, explosion or them tapping out when they're 'downed'

Within a certain distance you'll also get a hit sound when you shoot people but it can be hard to hear.

I get that but even at a distance you can sometimes tell the helmet rolls off to confirm a kill. On hill400 I've seen it bounce down a hill 😅 Tab works too but puts you in an exposed spot... Tab only shows when they die/bleed out so you might have to wait some time.
