no argument there. i generally don’t use rockets at that distance to avoid exactly that sort of thing
unless I’m shooting a recon or light tank
then it doesn’t much matter where you hit them
but if I need to be precise, I keep the distance under 50m

and this one for a good visualization of the hitboxes
in my opinion the AT shoulder rockets are more for light tanks and half-tracks anymore.
They do very little versus actual armor.

I get the obvious lack of viability for long range combat because it's a pretty basic launcher but at least allow me to effectively shoot out to 100 meters while keeping my target in sight.

Right, the sentiment of a wholly seamless, easy to get into and enjoy experience. As minimal resistance from the game up front as possible.
The server browser system is nothing new; Source engine games, UE2, UE3, other UE4, and other engines and games also use it. What is notable in the case of Hell Let Loose is how it staggers player connections to a server through six queue slots, which may be too tedious and wasting of precious time to sit through.

Don't know if anyone is around but I'm seriously thinking of getting the game and just wanted to make contact with the community to get an idea of what its like.
For info: I'm not so good at FPS and multiplayer but I'm prepared to practice and learn. I am not interested in getting involved in a toxic community where people act like dicks to one another. So I just thought I'd show my face and see how things are.

Your first few games on Hell Let Loose will probably be spent finding your way around it and its bindings. Do not fret. Rebinding keys to preference is highly recommended.
Personally, since I came from Rising Storm 2, I settled on a hybrid of existing binds and familiar options I had picked from that game, such as swapping Alt to Crouch and Ctrl to Prone for manual duck and cover and more cautious crouching.
Your main point of issue may be learning your roles and kits for each one. Spend some time in the Main Menu or Barracks to figure these out.
The second main problem is reaching down the number key list to get to certain items, particularly as the Officer/Squad Lead role. This is to be expected, however, and may just have to be adapted to unless you feel like performing more drastic rebindings.

Right. Hell Let Loose certainly may have fewer issues compared to Odyssey, but some were introduced with the Update 11 or U11 Patch released recently.
About the community, I think it’s pleasant. There’s the occasional flip-out from someone in command chat but it isn’t really approved of, which is the important thing. From the tone of your comment I think you’ll like it.

if you look to the right of 'machine gunner', it says 1/1, meaning there is already a machine gunner in your squad

you will/should still earn the XP you had accumulated up until that point as long as the server is registered, although it might take a bit to update - you'll only miss out on the end of round bonuses; win, commendation, time, etc.

Overall the performance and optimization can still be quite lacking, but it’s very much still enjoyable and playable
Well I hope you do give it a try at least 🙂 if you’re coming from vanguard or any cod, or any big shooter really, it will be vastly different. Don’t get too frustrated if you don’t get the hang of it immediately

the only one that can improve your reaction time and ability to aim is you.
Scan areas, especially open areas first before you move. In HLL it is incredibly easy to kill targets, so it usually becomes a matter of who-sees-who first.
Also, since you are new, I suggest dialing the teammate icons visibility down to 250m, as it is defaulted to 500m. You don't need to be aware of any teammate that is 500m away from you, and it clutters your sightline immensely
Likely not. I'd suggest learning the general layout of maps before you get into that class. It takes more forethought than other classes, and you become a bullet magnet the moment you open fire.

Hi all, looking at purchasing the game and was curious. Is there any leveling/unlocking of items, skins etc for completing matches and such?
The weapon and cosmetic unlocks are limited to authentic designs, and the grind to get them is pretty brutal

Game's pretty good mate. You can find both servers where no one communicates and just goes and shoots everyone like a super hard-core version of battlefield, or you can find servers where people communicate like in the real army. All depends what you're looking for.

I've found a decent middle ground server, where there are squads that communicate up to a fun standard, which I enjoy, but at the same time have their meme moments where we're pinned by a MG42 on the side of a field, so we all just scream and laugh

It’s locked so you being there now doesn’t help anything - it might be helpful if your team was close to capturing AA battery, so you’re there to begin capturing the next point, but they aren’t. It is best to stick with your squad regardless

Only two sectors are active at a time, which are the two points immediately beside one another of the enemy’s and your team (AA battery and tare green, in this example). Every other point and sector is locked
Or if you're actively destroying a garrison or something, otherwise 99% of the time you are more useful if you go to a point you can actually defend or attack

It's easy to win if everyone on the team is focused on contributing in some way, even if it's just always being in a sector that adds cap weight
Get to either objective, stop floating in between objectives. It really is that simple, and people still don't know this

Garrisons are a requirement to win but the team still has to decide to be in a cap weight sector, almost every game you're going to see a point lost with a significant amount of people off in a sector that doesn't count for attacking or defending
The single most important thing you can do as a single player is watch when points start being capped and recognize when you need to defend, and remind your squad.
Points are capped at a constant speed, you can't speed it up so if the other team starts capping you cannot win a cap race unless you stall their attack
But every single game you'll see teams continue or commit to an attack when they're already losing their point

Winning or losing is irrelevant to me, I don't mind losing i can still have fun losing, but it fucking sucks losing point after point because the team just refuses to defend, and then you lose all the spawn points you built
You'll see a team refuse to fall back and defend when it's still possible, and then you lose the point and everyone who was attacking instead of defending them chooses to attack the point you just lost instead of defending and then you lose another point

A medium tank can kill a heavy from the side but you need to hit hull.

Whenever possible try to maneuver for the back shot, takes the same number of shots to kill but it's easier to hit the engine, and forces the other tank to rotate more to get front hull pointed at you
You can get engine shots from the side though.

^ Yeah those are available only rarely, another common mistake you'll see when you can't find a server (and you're on the live game) is having some text in the server name filter field, it won't show you there's anything there unless it's clicked on.

Simple. In lieu of no Battlefield and Rising Storm 2 having begun to decay, Hell Let Loose is what people have begun to move on to and learn.
However, the initial experience is a bit of a clusterfuck until you rebind a few keys to streamline it in ways RS2 did or otherwise, and start learning the Officer, Assault, Support, and AR roles.

range of supplies is 50m. so don't go too far over the line though 😄
One benefit to doing it in HQ if you can get a support to drop their box is it gives the team an easy (10 second spawn timer) spot to redeploy to if they want to get the manpower and munitions nodes benefits

The game shouldn't handhold or enable everyone to be the most optimal all the time. It supposed to be a teamwork based game, and there can be no teamwork if you can do everything by yourself.
Every update HLL starys further from milsim. There is a vast amount of at this rate, buried potential for the sake of satisfying the average player who doesn't care what he's doing. The right way to do it is to make the game heavily mini-objective based. The randos can follow along with what the SL wants (with their brains turned off) and actual change could be made on the battlefield in an authentica to WW2 atmosphere.
How do you counter offmap bombing runs? Arty should be replaced with short ranged mortars and if you don't see the problem with arty as is, it shows ignorance of the game's meta.
Before the introduction of loadouts, germans had mostly K98s, and guess what. They statistically won more than americans. Asymmetry is needed for there to be a point in playing the different factions, otherwise, it's just red vs blue, with no depth to be had to represent the different factions.

Artillery that is based in HQ (i.e. near a spawn point that isn't destroyable or lockable short of capping their last point if it happens to be on the mid HQ) is not a fun gameplay method because it forces someone to sit back there the whole game and babysit.

I'm on mobile and that's a lot to respond to but I'd say regarding arty, I do think the current gameplay loop sucks. Arty shoots > recon camps until arty gives up > repeat.
Essentially artillery in my opinion should have a maximum range short enough that if you want to attack the enemy's capturable point, you have to do it from your unlocked territory, or just barely behind it to enable your regular infantry squads to have a hope of contesting it.
This frees recon from being forced to deal with artillery, while still having the option to do so.
mortars should have a max range of 400m
therefore putting them within the 40mm-60mm class of mortars
How am I supposed to find a game to join? Every single server says full even when at 86/100 because of VIP slots and QUEUE's and the "don't show full servers" option doesn't work because every server is at 99/100 because of VIP bs

I'm not sure about the Brits, but I'd imagine the Japanese will probably play differently than the Germans. The Pacific in general would probably need to have some differences.

Hard to say, it's really dictated by the relative skill of both teams, can be as short as about 20 minutes for warfare, or all the way to the full 90 minutes.

You can join the same servers as people though and join off your friends on Steam as a work around.

previously people kept moaning about pop-in, even with things that don't affect gameplay,
the most recent update had some LODs made more visually taxing, and pop-ins less, but the result is that FPS naturally takes a hit. Once again people feel it.
Thing is, most players probably didn't care about the previous level of pop-in and didn't think it to be detrimental, but now because of the changes made in the recent update to reduce the level of pop-in, everyone now feels its affect on their framerate, FPS overall is reduced.
Run in windowed fullscreen without any launch parameters. At least it will run smooth, but yes fps can suck

Asymmetric balance is a misnomer that dates from Rising Storm. It is often used incorrectly to support Staxis players in RO2. RS was actually balanced by the weapons strongly favouring Allies, while the maps strongly favoured the Japanese. This "balance" was revealed in campaign mode where Japanese attacking Iwo Jima did not go so well, etc. This type of approach does not work for warfare mode where both teams attack and defend. The game should be balanced, full stop. A balanced game is the most fun for everyone. Balance is the reason why football is played on a level pitch, not a slanted one.
Balance doesn't necessarily mean both sides are the same.
Even in a game like rock paper scissors there is balance with asymmetry. The lie is implying balance must be achieved by the same mechanics being available to everyone.

as cool as the idea of "asymmetric balance" (when it comes to Factions) is, it's not worth pursuing in a pvp multiplayer videogame, ESPECIALLY when there's as many players in a game as HLL. There's too much outside variability, namely player skill, that makes it incredibly hard to do successfully

The problem is Russia vs. Germany, which is strongly in favour of Germany due to the MG42 and StG 44 due to the Germans having to be balanced against the Americans. The PPSH/SVT 40 is not present on Russian side to offset this. It might be improved if there were team class limits. Alternatively, StG/Mg42 removed from the Eastern front. Alternatively to that, add the similarly ridiculously rare
Fedorov Avtomat to the Russians.

They have no light tank
The IS1 is too expensive and slow to be a good front line support tank

@next oasis I find the damage model is fine. The problems can be balanced with ROF and recoil. The StG has no weaknesses - it is good at close medium and long range. That is accurate, but horrid for balance. The MG42 ROF is so high its easy to hit running targets with its low recoil.
@next lava the problem is that in games people hate dying. Being dead is not playing. So giving one team more players that die more is not fun for those players.

I think all Kursk needs is to have the overall gradient from windmills to Russian spawn removed. Keep the undulation, but remove the long range gradient that has the Germans shooting down on the Russians.

There are 3 types of nodes. each generate that type of resource. Nodes require supplies to build and must be built in friendly territory

They dont do supply drops

Or set mines and satchels
They can also repair tanks
Also the mg34 is under rated

ROF and recoil largely do not matter when targets go down in 1 hit more times than they don't.
Increasing recoil doesn't change anything about how players engage targets other than make them never want to shoot more than one bullet at a time, and one bullet is all you need to down targets, so it's not really a prohibitive change in any meaningful way.

Honestly one person leaving mid match isn’t a big deal unless it’s commander or a squad lead
C to talk to squad anywhere, V to talk to close by people in or out of squad, middle mouse to ping.
can both teams hear the V chat ?
No only friendlies, I think it stops being discernable around 50m but it drops off with distance so it can be hard to hear people
And X to talk to command chat if you're in a role that gets that.
