It would be cool to set up a proper armored division with Panzers, Panthers and a Tiger or two
Damn right, we were sold "This is a simulation of war... not an arcade arena shooter. " and got a BF2 clone.
If you like this mediocrity, good for you, but I ain't ever going to stop bitching about it, till I find something better to do.
why dont you go play arma than lol
I'd rather play HLL any day than Arma
Why did you come back then?
So great to see another 🃏 join us. Can't wait for the fresh takes he's gonna bring.
More
for us to cherish having around the place
Hey, I've just got a PS5 and hell let loose seems to be lagging alot. I'm in Europe and using the Europe server so I'm not sure what's up?
You may have more luck in #console-general-chat or #console-support depending on what you're experiencing
Hi. Not sure which channel to ask this in: When can we get this game on GOG?
No one really uses the voice channels on this discord. Why would they?
In game chat is much better for HLL, discord is good for mid game coordination
In-game chat. Better than Discord?
Big doubt. Adjust individual voice levels, better overlay options, better sound quality... what else?
I rather have my squad in Discord's squad channel than use in-game's squad channel at all.
It’s on sale on Steam right now if that helps. Not 100% off though sorry
polen 1939 chapter when

I wanna charge german positions in a cockroach
or even better slap a 20mm onto it
hehehe
hello all
Hey how you going?
good just started playing 10 hours ago im loving this game
Yeah its good fun
97 kills
without dying
So close to the achievement.
Oh, the discord quality and options are better, absolutely. I'm probably a little biased, as the guys that use discord don't use in-game comms for proxy/leadership, and it kinda ruins it.
What I should have said is the in-game chat is easier to communicate with your team when you are first starting out in the game.... unlike something like PUBG where you use the regional discord.
Depends on people. I communicate fluently within squad inside Discord and in command channel in-game. But sure, I understand the friend groups who just plays the game for themselves instead for the team. Especially when your team is filled with 2-3 player locked units and there is no contact or communication with them.
I've seen the opposite too - almost half of your team in the one channel - it's a complete clusterfk and just noise pollution.
The day we can adjust individual levels in-game (or at least, proxy/unit/command) will be massive.
<@&365680483276816385> Hey, just looking to find out where all the voice channels are in order to meet people to play with. Thank you
Not a mod but there are no active voice channels in this Discord. Your best bet is to go through#console-divisions-recruitment and join different communities.
What region are you from mate? Best bet are community servers, many good and helpful players hang out there. Check out console divisions in Tuomainen's message above 🙂
Thanks all, appreciate the direction. I'm in the UK and play on PC, happy to fill any roles but prefer medic at this moment in time.
Oh, why have you console roles selected 🤷 Then #pc-divisions-recruitment is the direction.
I didn't see an option for PC, only ps5 or Xbox and I know we have xbox game pass on pc so just selected that
why do soldiers not have voicelines
Is there a Gary limit per team?
It’s 8… not sure if those preplaced garrisons on Offensive count towards it.
I can't join any game, every time I do, I get a message that says I lost connect to the host, despite trying to play in a NA Server. Is there something happening rn?
They don't and they don't count towards the 200m distance from player placed garris. so you can put a garri right next to the default offensive one
How close do you need to be to an outpost/garry to block the spawns? Seem like almost point blank?
Pretty much right on top of it.
The only other consideration is if a Garry is placed within Red territory, the enemy only needs to be within 100m to disable people from spawning on it
Oh interesting. Good info. Thanks.
So... MG34/42s and M1919 Brownings can damage transport and supply trucks and destroy them. Do rifles (Kar98ks, M1 Garands, BARs) do any damage to trucks?
I emptied a bunch of BAR magazines into a truck and it didn't seem to do any non-cosmetic damage
only MGs can damage trucks I believe
(The rifles use the exact same rounds as the MGs, don't they?)

contrary to popular belief, tracers don't double as incendiary rounds
Only on really dry firing ranges 🤣
it takes 100 rounds to destroy a truck with MGs. The 1919 and mg34/42
What's the range on the warning that an enemy players is near an OP/Garry?
Like how close to it do they need to be for it to show the warning but still let you spawn
Tracers do have a slight increase in chance of causing fire though right?
Atleast in dry environments
Yeah they can light stuff on fire given the right circumstances.
Yeah, I was pretty sure of that
Thags one of the listed reasons for them being banned in most US states
Cause our country has a tendency to burst into flames at the slightest spark
They do, but can be difficult to hear or may not play depending on system resources.
How close do you need to be to supplies to use them?
tracers can 100% cause a fire, i've put out one in the yard due to this
Because you are the soldier's voice line
I know it is, thanks ChibaSky - that's why I'm asking. I want to get it, but I'm not fond of Steam at all. Sale would be nice, Full price is OK - but from a shop that is really fair to its customers.
I think it's just Steam for now. Would probably be extremely hard to let people play across multiple platforms judging by how servers are barely functional on Steam
I don't think this is the case
In colorado it was one of the primary reasons
since our state and everything west of us can't help but not bursting into flames at any moment
maybe they're banned at parks, but I don't think they're banned state-wide
one sec
I don't think a single state has banned tracer ammunition
they're illegal in cali xd
Is there a chance that the pacific theater will be added at some point?
yes, eventually
hello
hi I'm new 🙂 Wife bought me this game for my birthday and I'm really loving it
i plan on getting this game tomorrow
I used to get that, try reinstalling on SSD drive if you havent already. Main thing here is to combat lag and load times that are too long. afaik if u spend too much time loading itll auto boot you. But I cant confirm that.
Obviously load into matches with lowest possible ping and all that, but reinstalling on SSD is the most effective method I can recommend
theres also a few launch configs u can set from steam library launch settings such as '-dx12' to help speed things up etc etc
the answer is yes if your specs can make the cut and you have a mic
is communicating with the team necessary?
highly recommended
^^
scratch that, its a requirement
only case it doesnt apply is if ur playing some quiet squad where everyones doing their own thing
there is text chat for those who cannot speak 0
but...yknow, tha isnt desirable
To be sure, but that certainly isnt the standard, or what we'd want to make the norm
50 meters
Cali gun laws 😆
im so excited to play that game already ahh
Is there no party system on pc or am I blind?
There is not but it's in the roadmap, coming sometime in the future.
So say I'm Officer. And I want to build a garry on a flank in enemy territory. Can I do this using just my support? I know they only drop 50 supplies and I need 100. Can they drop more after a cooldown or a redepoy? Or do they need to swap roles and the new support drops the second 50 I need?
the latter. a support can only have one box out at a time
you either need two supports, a supply drop, or a crate from a supply truck to build a forward garrison
swap roles is the meta
Ok thanks!
I have a question about using arty ?
yeeees?
Hey I just bought the game and wow it’s fun!
me either!
Match the approximate mils needed for the distance of the target area using the mils to distance chart on the left side of the screen, and send some lead down range. I always recommend firing a little ahead of the target, so you're not shelling friendly lines
Amazing the amount of friendly kills you can get with arty lol
Should arty players make their own locked squad and only hit SL marks or is it common for them to stay in a squad and help them out with arty support?
There's also websites and apps on Android that you can just put the number in and then it tells you the exact arty number
I've racked up insane numbers that way
Looking for players to play with with organized communication.
A maximum of two players in locked squad is all you need.
The officer will be the frontline spotter and one other person to operate the artillery gun.
Playing minimalistic is also an option, but requires better understanding of the battlefield. One person in a locked squad can trade communicated with the team, or use map to analyze and predict enemy locations.
A full squad can have a designated artillery operator, but in most cases ppl are dumb , so smart ppl just lock their squad and solo operate the artillery. Welcome to hll
If you can’t see the mark well of the distance of the mark target can you use ur map to see the distance mark target and if u do will it hit the same range?
I mean you can ping the mark on the map to see how far it is from you
Jesus fucking christ I've just bought this game on a whim and I think I have PTSD
This isn't battlefield there's poo in my pants
The poo in your pants also enjoying the ride 💩
Wouldn’t someone else mark be the same distance ?
Lmao
You can be very effective in a one man locked squad as an SL on arty since it gives you command chat and other squads marks, ability to place your own marks and ability to see recon.
You can also be effective back on arty if your any other role if you're in a communicating squad, but in those scenarios I find it most useful to only be back there for a short time to hit a specific fire mission to get something done, like clear out a compound or space to allow your squad to push up and take some territory.
The thing you don't want to be is some random role, on artillery in a squad that isn't communicating so when other squads are telling you the arty is bad, falling too close to friendlies, hitting totally empty areas with no enemies, or the team is too low on munitions, etc. and nobody can reach you on comms.
and it's also bad to be locking some role that is better suited on the front line in a squad that is out doing something, and you're just hogging assault or AT or something or god forbid support back on the AT gun.
How do you get to the middle of the map when the game starts ?
if nobody picks me up with a transport truck, is it just walking ?
or redeploying when someone puts up a garrison ?
nailed it in two
ok, redeploying feels so dirty to me as a new player
feels weird to start the game like that
yeah i grabbed this on the steam sale, wayyy more intense than i was expecting. very good tho i just suck rn
a lot of this is super weird to me
It's an important part of the game, don't feel bad about redeploying.
Tons of great resources out there, what kind of questions do you have? https://www.youtube.com/user/monoespacial has tons of tips and how to videos, https://www.youtube.com/c/TheFreshBakedGoods and https://www.youtube.com/user/TheSaucymuffin are also good for gameplay videos, mostly tanking.
uhhh... basically everything lol. I come from boomer shooters, i'm not used to how the majority of this game works.
thanks for the links, i'll check em out
i've always had an interest in realistic shooters i just never dedicated the time to actually playing one til now.
So there are two game modes, warfare and offensive, warfare is a lot more popular I think.
Essentially the game revolves around building and protecting spawn points. OPs are built by SLs, only that squad can deploy on them, they are free to build (can only place them so often) and can be blown up by explosives or enemies walking close to them.
Garrisons are also built by SLs or the commander, they cost 50 supplies in friendly (blue) territory or 100 in enemy (red) territory but the entire team can deploy at any garrison, garrisons will lock when enemies are close (15 meters in the blue? or something close to that) or 100 meters in the red.
The support class is available to every infantry squad and allows the support person to drop a box of 50 supplies every 5 minutes (if you walk close to a manpower node that time gets cut in half to 2.5 minutes).
Your best bet when starting out is to hop in a squad, try to find one that talks, go support if nobody else is and just be willing to redeploy to where the SL is or follow him around as needed and look at the map and be aware of what is happening, are you currently losing your point, capping the next point, etc.
ok yeah, it's mostly the actual combat i'm getting used to
Most teams lose because they did not build or did not protect enough garrisons, a lot of people misdiagnose losing as something else, but it's typically either lack of spawns, or the team being unwilling to defend or only attacking, or both.
and shooting dudes is mostly just a means to an end to remove their cap weight from the sector, or to go destroy their spawns.
TTK is low on weapons, so getting accurate shots on target is more important than dumping a lot of bullets into people.
i've played a few games so far and i'm picking it up slowly. mostly been running around following people and figuring it out from others. still dying constantly, but less constantly.
and seeing enemies more, etc
Yeah it's not a super complicated game but there can be a lot of stuff going on and it can be overwhelming when you're new.
It is a hundred times easier to see enemies if you are stationary and they are moving, it is always useful to be defending a point (exception being the attacking team of offensive since those points can't be recapped)
So you can always hang back and pick a spot that enemies are going to be moving through or towards and pick dudes off, this isn't always directly on the strong point either, but sometimes it is.
As you play more you'll start picking up map awareness and can have a good idea of what's going on or where enemies are based off what OPs/garrisons are pinging (the red exclamation point indicating enemies are near), or where your team is, but the point is still being capped, etc.
whooo boy, imagine what Chum would have to say about that 😁
You don't have to like the mechanic but while it's in the game if you aren't using it you're not playing the game to win, playing to have fun is also acceptable.
Hoofing it 600 meters on foot is not fun though.
yeah thats true, im not running after the truck at the start of the match, ever
First truck is important for getting SLs and supports out on the map, and getting cap weight into the mid point, but if you missed the truck you missed the truck and if the team won't build an attacking garrison for people to deploy on, well you've already lost, even if it takes an hour and a half to get to the loss screen.
With an SL or the commander in the first supply truck and an SL/support in each transports you could get 5 garrisons up within the first couple of minutes of a match, that is huge, it also never happens.
6 if you throw an SL/support in the recon tank.
what do you do with the supply truck after the garisson is placed ?
Depends, you can build two garrisons off one supply truck since you can drop two boxes, if you have an engineer in the truck you can hand it off to them to go build nodes with after the first garrison, you can also take it back to spawn and resupply it and get more boxes, if you're the commander you should probably stick with the truck and continue to build garrisons.
If you have no intention of keeping the truck, don't leave it immediately on the garrison, park it somewhere out of sight with the engine off or it's a giant flashing beacon that says spawn point right over here please come kill it.
ok cool thanks
Supply trucks cost 100 fuel to spawn, so they aren't super detrimental if they're lost to the enemy or to simple abandonment by the team.
so its ok to take a supply truck as SL with a support, build a garrison on the line, and then park truck 100m back. and then have the rest of the squad redeploy and go from there
since i m new was always wondering about how to have a good start with the squad
For sure, that first supply truck is really important for getting garrisons up, but if you have a support in your squad you can leave the supply truck and get in one of the 3 transports at the beginning and your support can drop a box to get that garrison up.
since now it was usually miss the truck and walk 600m :/
are there 3 transport trucks in the beginning ?
so 1 on every HQ ?
Yep, one at each spawn, at least on PC I can't speak for consoles.
If you're running SL and aren't playing with people you know and can trust to do what you need (i.e. spawn support and get in the first truck right away) a really important and easy way to help the team is to snag the first supply truck and use it to build two garrisons.
so if you can get in the transport with SL and 1 support, you can get a garrison up right?
PC is on U10, console is on either U9 or some tweaked version of U9 I have no idea.
Yes, you can get one blue zone garrison up because a blue zone garrison costs 50 supplies, a support drops 50, you also can't build garrisons in neutral territory, so you need to get those first garrison(s) up in the blue before neutral territory.
U10?
Update 10.
oh ok
PC Update 11 drops December 7th, easy way to distinguish what people are talking about because there can be pretty major differences between updates.
A red zone garrison takes 100 supplies so that is either a supply drop (100 supplies), supply truck (150 supplies) or two supply boxes (2x50) which can either be a support from two squads, or you can drop an OP and have one person drop a box, and then redeploy and select a different role and have another person in the squad drop the second box.
The double drop method is preferable to the first two because it doesn't generate a parachute which is a really big clue to the enemy team a spawn is going down over there, and doesn't involve driving a big noisy truck.
The first 10 minutes of the game should revolve around capping the mid point, getting two attacking (blue zone garrisons set up to where people can push the mid point) garrisons up and then a backup garrison to defend your 2nd point if you don't cap mid, you typically (but not always) want those garrisons not on the strong point itself, generally a triangle around the point with the point in the middle so you should always have at least one up at any point to spawn off of since you can't build them closer than 200 meters apart.
A garrison on the strong point is almost guaranteed to get blown up by a bombing run or tank, and it is trivial for infantry to find it there.
There is no cool down no but there is a max of 8 at any point, and any method to generate supplies has some sort of cool down associated with it.
Sometimes you don't have better garrison placement options depending on the map and what points there are and how close they are to the edge of the map.
And of course you can't have them closer than 200 meters apart from each other, and a red zone garrison locks when enemies are within 100 meters, so those are all important considerations when dropping them.
alright, great info thanks
Most teams lose because of garrisons, generally the lack thereof
Most important thing is if your support score is 0 you don't get to complain about lack of garrisons!
so considering what you just said about redeploying
if there is an airhead goign down and you are an offensive squad, you can ask your squad to just redeploy on the airhead as soon as it goes down?
im needing people to play with, just got the game. im on pc. english speaking, with mic
Absolutely.
And your whole squad can be waiting at the redeploy screen looking at the map. waiting for the airhead to go live.
In an ideal world you have a person or squad securing the drop zone for when the airhead lands. And people deploy.
But needs must.
Have a go at asking in #pc-looking-for-unit
Also, when you play a match and find you get along with someone, you can send them a Steam friends request in a match.
I'm not in a game now, but I believe if you press tab to have a look at the scores page.
You can find their name and scores, etc. Then somewhere on that profile line is a button to friend them. It'll just make it happen through Steam.
What does this mean?
Recon plane
The arrow (bottom-left in this case) shows the direction the plane is flying
The white bar around the icon showing the progress of the plane flying overhead
The grey area on the map (not shown) highlight the area of effect for the plane (or any other commander ability tbh)
Final PTE before Update 11
We will be holding the final PTE on Thursday December 2nd at 11am GMT
For those who are new to** PTE’s** you’ll need to join the Discord and head over to the #pte-update13
channel. If you get the time, feel free to join us in one last leg of testing to ensure we have the update primed and smooth as possible for release. Update 11!
Guys - as Commander, how can I quickly tell which squad a player belongs to? It’s annoying that I can’t see it quicker
There's no easy way short of looking at the score screen or mousing over them on the map and seeing which squad lead gets highlighted at the same time.
Does anyone else on Xbox or PS have occasional issues with internal squad and proximity comms going out completely for the entirety of the game?
dont worry we all do
just played for the first time and I am a little overwhelmed lol
Same here
Games super immersive felt like I was at war.. Good job devs... Got some good kills today and my first day I got 0... Love the game win or lose
Its a grind for sure, but worth it once you get the hang of it
I struggle when it's mid battle or near the end.. . I started joining servers which had low numbers and found it a lot easier to get into it
I'm not going to ruin it for you with a lengthy explanation, but I know a bit of worthless military trivia, which makes this game as immersive as Disney Starwars. It only makes sense if you don't think about it, and only entertains you so long as you don't try to win the game.
Haha no worries.. I like the sounds... Feels good
I can’t believe this game is such a grind, and yet I don’t hate it like pubg. I actually quite enjoy it!
I’m interested in this - can you explain further?
STG-44s in Stalingrad, Tiger tanks fighting Americans in Normandy, tanks on PHL, time traveling Jumbo sherman, etc...
cry about it lol
no you
ok
Tigers in Normandy are alright, imo. Same as tanks on PHL. Jumbos are debatable and STGs in Stalingrad should be a no-go
On PC there has been a VOIP bug for a long time. Seems it's also in the console version. I'm not sure about console but PC has a disconnect/reconnect in the settings that some times fixes it. Otherwise the only way I know to get it to work is to restart the game
IMO it doesn't really matter except that the game often makes a claim towards realism
It depends on your personal views about what should be/what could be/ and what is realistic
it is "realistic" in the most common sense, I'd argue.
Proper military historians would not like a lot of the things they see though. Fair.
see i'd disagree on the basis of time travel
Same.
but there are nuances to it as well imo
like its one thing to harp on about which model of Panzer IV is in play
but another to hand wave a vehicle 2-3 years into the past
a late variant of a Sherman is, imo, less annoying than a Tiger in Stalingrad
like a proper military historian type I expect to be able to say "yes, the Panzer IV was here but this is a G and it should be an F"
whereas just any dumbass can identify that the Panther shouldn't be in Stalingrad
Don't be too certain about that lol
Garry son is all I can think of
Yeah but that's a thing because of game play balance because the factions need to be roughly even, and also because there's not that many vehicles in game and it takes a lot of work to add them, you could probably get rid of the Panther in Stalingrad if we had some sweet StuGs or other things.
just remove heavies from Stalingrad
but my argument wasn't about game ba;ance
but claims to realism and/or accuracy
Yeah for sure, but realism/accuracy should always take a back seat (within reason, but I still want my hello kitty tank skin) to game play and game balance
official hell let loose x hello kitty collab when
i played until 2am last night and actually started getting ok, thanks a lot for the help
Honestly yall are too hard on HLL
In the year where BF2042 became one of the worst rated steam games of all time in a matter of a month, HLL is a fucking miracle
pitch me the game
This game is what battlefield should have evolved into
why should i spend money in it
That's how I play it
You dont
Just buy the game
Play a round
If you dont like it refund
If you like it, play it.
It's not through origin so you actually can refund it or rate it fairly
origin does refounds as well
I like the game because it feels like a middle ground between older battlefield games and more harecore shooters like arma or PS
Origin denied my refund for a game I never played or downloaded because they didnt like me reason for refund
prob you had bought it too long ago
should have just lied
I bought it 2 days before the refund request
Yeah I should have said it didnt work
I said it wasnt what I expected and the gameplay was bad
And they said "sucks lmao"
they said that?
Both are good. Numbers be damned.
No they said a corporate version of that
Because it will make you feel the highest highs and also more pissed off than you’ve been so far this year. You will truly live. 10/10
Yes
what game was it
BF1 when it was coming out with its second dlc
Which sucks cause I loved the game on console
But at the time the game didnt size correctly to my monitor, and I had to play it in shitty windowed
Also the French tankzilla was dumb
But I guess its my mistake for paying EA
eh, HLL has a much lower bar to pass than 2042
I mean sure but HLL is not a miracle in that sense
its a smaller game with smaller scope that has a bunch of outstanding issues that it would be torn apart for if it had a bigger audience
Hll and 2042 are one in the same except that HLL can fly under the radar
both publically and in your mind
Just realized the guy on the starting screen is holding an enfield
Most curious.
brits are confirmed
Yeah the p47 in the title card looks like an a6m2 with us paint
And the Sherman's look soooo jank
And the tigers are disproportionate to the point where they dont look like real tanks
I hope they change the title image at some point tbh
A similarly styled image onlooking like a charge down through a bombed out field in bastogne with armor and aircraft over
(most of the promos and art have the soldiers on the right side as being left handed also)
Or like market garden style overlook of open combatants a paradrop
The eastern front title card was better thoufh
Even if the tank in the promo isnt even ingame
G ruh mble
I swear that title image is just a stock image, I remember seeing it, or something identical to it in H&G, with the short sleeved German and the same silhouettes.
Looking through old images related to H&G, and I think I might be wrong... its just the same uninspiring composition and vapid style.
It feels like a stock image
certainly FEELs like it at the least
The image doesnt even show content in the game its portraying
Lmao
Where stuka
Where panzer 4
Well, neither does half of the game trailers.
They've been advertising the game with the Pz4 for a while now, and the animations don't match anything I've ever seen in game
Yeah
Which is silly to me
If they had enough of something to use it fully in a trailer why not actually just add it?
No mans sky moment
They lied to us Kickstarters, so I have no reason to expect they'd stop lying to the new players either.
I think the real reason is timing. They seem to hold things that are finished for a long time, and push things that are unfinished to meet seemingly arbitrary deadlines
They seem to put some undue importance onto these time tables, like its some sort of marketing metric or something. I can only guess, because no one has the inside baseball.
which is funny because despite all of that they still have the best customer service and public reps for any somewhat mainstream WW2 fps
"durr vanguard is the most innovative and immersive experience"
and also, at the end of the day, being a company with any level of public service or appearance is agony in 2021
Blackmatter at least does care about its player base and quality
Whether it has the ability to actually substantially improve it is yet to see, but its obvious EA, DICE, and basically every other major company does not give literally any shit about its player base.
HLL has the trouble of being just mainstream enough to be on consoles and have a public appearance, but just indie enough to not have the disgustingly large budgets of similar companies
EA and EA DICE staff seem to have too high a turnover for the engine to handle.
Well not to mention that they only function because of major advertising
Their games are the equivalent to the transformers movies
mediocre acting, mediocre plot, mediocre movie, good ads, and some remastering
and then just churn that out once a year
Really? Even the first TF movies?
and boom AAA company
The gimmick gets old after the first
Like, black ops original was an awesome game
but yknow
By Black ops 48 its kinda
well
bad
theres no major innovations, its just the same game but shinier
True that...
I like HLL because it just feels like what games like Day of Defeat would have evolved into
But when things get innovated, some complain that its "different"... right?
Well, it depends
Different can be amazing
But when you only make differences on the enjoyable core parts of the game, its not good
Like BF2042
The game is pretty
its not as buggy as some other large titles
not saying much
but its just bland
Its empty
Its advertising made it seem like an achievement, like a new chapter for games.
How would you make 2042 less empty then?
And its content doesn't even outshine its game last year
Its not finished, it needed a lot more work
The interface is bad
Theres no server browser
the combat is obviously not refined
the gun count is lower than any other BF game
the maps are mediocre
the combat is bland
and you know
it would all be fine
if the games budget wasn't 2.5 billion dollars
Well bf franchise is good in wasting money
The budget for BF2042 was more than the budget of denver colorado
a city of a million or so people
its close to the budget of all of alaska
Thats why its upsetting
the game isn't horrible
but its not good
To much managers to little real games
If you were paid 150K and you managed a mcdonalds, you'd be doing a similar thing
the money is not going where it needs to be, its a waste
Gamers**
They could have paid for not only an entirely new engine, staff team, and development, but they also could still have had a good advert campaign
Jup thats for sure
I guess thats the story of like
80% of all things now
if you're not mismanaging the funds you're doing it wrong I guess
A more familiar platform, and a way for them to better understand their own interworkings
Think of Valve
Valve could easily use Unity, or Unreal
or any of those other systems
But they exceled because of their choice to seperate.
The source engine was tailored specifically for their games
It wasn't made for battlefield, or cod
but it was made for their games
And they knew it inside and out
It's obvious that the development team for BF2042, were not comfortable with their system
But, once again
you find yourself in the block
I see... Frostbite isnt bad tho, but I see your point. Do note that a fully custom engine will take years to develop...
Its not easy to make that jump, nor is it a guaranteed success
Yeah Exactly
its a risky investment
it's significantly easier to reuse an older engine and update it, or just use one with a different provider
Yeah, especially when a new game releases earlier then the new engine...
even if it removes overall quality
Look at a game like Valheim
5 people made that game
I think there are some copyrights there... no reusing...
5
Well in the case of DICE, its their engine
The engine for BF2042 is just the evolution of the same game framework they've generally had since BF4
which is fine
True...
but, being too comfortable is a thing
If you're scared of innovating or trying cool things, thats an issue
Also, kind of off to compare Valheim with 128 multiplayer people across multiple platforms and specs, right?
Well, Valheim was made by 5 people
100%!
And it was, for 3 months, the most well selling game on steam
it currently has around 97% positive reviews
and will likely win game of the year
But
Then you consider how many projects did not get as lucky
Valheim nearly tripled their studio size due to their success
and it caused months of blank time
training and catching new devs up
And theres the issue
DICE can afford to fire all of their devs and rehire in a month
Valheim, Blackmatter, and most other studios cannot
That's insanity for most
Hiring is very
very hard
for anything other than major providers
And at this point, I don't think I know a single person who likes EA, DICE, Activision, or any of the major FPS providers
people just tolerate them
Everyone wants their new game to be good and fun, but most people just don't take the time to say how bad it is
They just suck it up and go do something else
hoping next year is different
most people don't have opinions of any of that, or care to.
the minority is just loud
kinda
like
here
Next year?
80% negative reviews doesn't seem very minor though
in the case of dice
@dawn widget the AAA cycle
Activision pumps out a CoD nearly every year
its just what they do
If this years game sucks, it just sucks
they'll patch it maybe a little
and then start next years
Scary... no time to iterate or develop more depth or the earlier mentioned new engine.
Thats where games like Valhiem, HLL, and quite a few others are different
Exactly
Minecraft is a great example
Minecraft has basically been the same general title for 10+ years
theres been a couple spinoffs
But its still, Minecraft
no Minecraft 2\
no Minecraft the sequel
Yourcraft - The Spinoff...
if theres a bad update, or people want something
they add it
if HLL wants to add things
they add it
If DICE wants to add things
its a DLC
its rarely an update
I see...
and if they want to make real changes, they'll just save it for next years game
and so, like I said
we just hope next year is different
No Man's Sky is a good example of how hope can sometimes pay off
True! Even CP2077 did the same.
A game that had, very likely, the worse public launch of any game in recent history
Cyberpunk had it bad too
FFXIV had it bad I've heard
But No Man's Sky was so bad
that they literally became the term
if a game had great hype and it was horrible
it was a "No Man's Sky"
But
The development studio said "No, fuck that"
And so they developed and fixed the game for 4 years
adding major content update after major content update
The game went from mostly negative ratings to postivie
Thats legitimately insane
thats almost unheard of
The game is actually twice as good as the original hype alluded to
and thats why people are tired of BF2042 and shit like that
People realize its more than possible for devs to fix their garbage
The comeback No Man's Sky had is an extremely inspiring story altogether. Despite the bad press and almost hopeless outlook they came back from the brink and blew it completely out of the water, surprising literally everybody. Probably also because they still believed in their vision of the project and did not want their "baby" to be held as the golden standard of how not to do marketing or development of a video game.
Absolutely.
No mans sky now is unironically one of my favorite games
every few months theres a major patch and I get on and do it and love it
I've just finished most of the main stuff
It's not really my type of game but even as an outsider I can see how much they improved basically everything about the game
I was one of the people who preordered it
it was the first and last game I ever preordered
and
I refunded it a week later
I ended up buying it again 6 months later to give it another chance
and never refunded it
and it was a good buy
and it was on sale
so epic gamer buy
yeah it pretty much consistently improved itself
Its now to the point where I have an actual officialized star nation with claims and sectors
and we have a capital planet with player builts towns
as soon as the intergalactic warfare update comes out there will be civil wars and invasions all over the place
wasn't that supposed to be a thing, pre launch?
yeah for real
yeah
and actually, technically it is
MP has been pretty good
theres not enough framework for like
massive spacial interactives as of now
but its been getting progressively better
I wonder if Star Citizen will ever come to actual fruition
kinda has the same vibe that NMS, doesn't it
Star citizen was basically the same level of progress when NMS came out
albeit with a much bigger budget
Star Citizen is basically selling the player a dream, a concept
not an "actual" game yet
yeah
in like 10 years or so..
I dunno, we shall see. That's the problem with these super ambitious projects
by then I'll actually just buy a starship and do it
an actual spaceship at that point
yeah fr
play Star Citizen in real life
This has been a really good conversation to read, as a person who isn't really an immediate consumer of AAA games.
As a person who works in tech, I am pretty aware of the working conditions and culture in the various studios though. The way investor or organisational pressures create certain patterns.
Or the way clever business decisions create freedom from those pressures.
For example, I was saying in #mess-hall last night how it was clever for HLL not to manage their own game servers. But to have trusted partners.
So they can step away from having the manage those, but can have some quality control via a partnership program. It lets them scale more effectively as the player base creates the demand for servers. Or when if a server dies off then it isn't a big impact back on them.
That means they can keep focus, without worrying about what happens if the game gets popular or has a lull. Having to scale servers and engineering staff.
Honestly it sucks man
Especially considering it's not even the majority of the devs fault
It's horrible top level design decisions that direct the competence of hundreds of exceptional and good devs or staff
But such comes the cost of identifying bad companies or organizations
90% of the people in EA are good hard working people
It just happens that the other 10% are the main managing body
Like, I dont believe for a second that any someone sentient person looked at BF2042 from the dev side and thought "eh, consistent servers and server browsers are dumb and not necessary "
I know for a fact that every somewhat intelligent person heard that absolute walnut of a human being and was like 😐 😕
"Whatever boss"
I agree about NMS, fair play to those devs. Meanwhile Star Citizen just passed $400m in funding. $400m!
I still cant believe that, I have a friend who just pours the money into SC, thankfully hes got money to burn but like...goddamn
I cant fathom that sort of faith in a game
He sounds like a good friend to have if you ever want to make a game
Four hundred million dollars and people are getting excited about food and drink features in the game
To the convo above - I’m guessing most of us our in our 20s and 30s, so will understand how technologically and socially illiterate a lot of our bosses are. They are the ones who ultimately make the big decisions which kill franchises, prioritise micro transactions or bullshit DLC, and leave gamers confused.
I’m not bitter, just jaded 😅😅😅
Can artillery destroy OPs and Garrys?
I think it would be really funny and fun if hell let loose had a Chaplin or Priest class of Solider. This class of solider wouldn't be able to carry any conventional weapons but would have extra capping powers over your average solider. Ideally they would also carry a bible that they could throw at the enemy as well as a rosary that you could strange Nazis with as a melee weapon. It would be a great feature if they were able to lie next to an injured solider and read their bible as the solider dies. I think watching soldiers with robes prance around the battlefield would be hilarious. Let me know what you think!
yes
Hello I don't have the game but I love it x)
You also have to consider that the consumer is also at blame because despite the fact that we get sold half the game on full price and get the rest as DLCs, we've also accepted broken launches, Betas, microtransactions at every turn and no mod support
Doesn't kill garrisons
Hmm, I thought garrisons could get blown up aswell
Fair point.
I know devs are greedy assholes but gamers are the ones spreading their cheeks to them
and those of us who complain seem to be a vocal minority, a large subsection to be sure but a minority nonetheless
400.000.000 dollars is quite the sum
By comparison, it took Rockstar about 265 million to produce GTAV
Cyberpunk needed 316 million, and it was and still is a broken mess which underdelivered
welcome to software development 😄
BF4 needed about 100 million
more money definitely doesnt mean better product
Indeed
and I don't want to imply Star Citizen is a scam, but at this point it might as well be
All depends on how its managed
The game will never meet the demands of what's been promised
But like you said, the gamers are a big part of the problem
The gamers are the enablers of their own problems
blindly pre ordering / buying the next iteration
Corporations are always greedy, but the consumer has gotten dumber
You basically pay more for less
a lot dumber
Management wants their games to appeal to the widest audience possible, and doing that, they extract the soul of the game.
Star Citizen is basically a huge Patreon at this point subsisting on the hopes and dreams of a generation of gamers who have money to burn
they dont care about making the best game possible, they care about making the most money possible
Yeah because they become more and more diluted
so they make puzzles easier, dumb down games, add stupid cosmetics, ...
Unfortunately you can either have an accessible game, or an in depth game; you can’t have both. Enthusiasts will always lose out to the appeal of Fortnite audience.
Lol, paying = fun
By extension the gaming "journalists" have also become way dumber, remember that fucking guy who couldn't even get past the Cuphead tutorial?
Part of the problem is this silly idea that everyone’s mission should be to make difficult things “more accessible” and easy to pick up.
Why?
Some things are complex and difficult. That’s what I want. Not buggy or broken - just subtle and not easy.
I don't know about that, I think Call of Duty used to have a great formula and it fucked it up, even though it already appealed to a mass audience
I picked up uncharted 4 recently cause i was bored (and i m old - 36)
Nothing was wrong with World at War except a couple of nitpicky details
if you compare those puzzles with puzzles in old resident evil games or something like that
the difference is crazy
I like the uncharted games but ever since Amy Hening left the company they've been crappy
games right now seem like they are made for 8 year olds
and make me feel really old 😄
I think generally technology has made people dumber and lowered expectations
I'm 23 and I agree lol
You only old if you make pain noises when you sit, or breath heavily after stepping out of shower
People are so impatient and hate applying their brains
Indeed
I mean people at work refuse to try to understand excel
they also don't really know about 10yearold games because they never played them
so they don't know what quality looks like
They think it is like fucking enigma machine
Everyone has an iPhone but nobody knows how to change a wheel or regulate their bicycle gears despite ALL THE INFORMATION IN THE WORLD in Google
Holy fuck you have no idea how right you are
Some days I am just pissed off and today is one of them lol
I was in the Netherlands last summer and a couple of my Dutch friends there didn't even know how to replace the brakes on their bicycles
Or even replace a tyre
It’s not even that, it’s refusing to try to even understand it
They just look at you blankly
Yeah with a cowface
literally cow face! Chewing grass. Meanwhile my grandad is fighting Germans in a forest and fixing his car with a hammer and a Hail Mary 😂
Lol yeah
Its not that they are refusing to try, its cause the tire is heavy Nd they are a bunch of nancies
If you can't put together your own IKEA furniture then you're probably retarded
My central question in all of this is always - okay, it might take time to learn. But what are you using that time for instead?
Didn't anyone play with legos when they were growing up, fucking hell
Most of the time they are watching Netflix or complaining about politics or whatever
tiktok and instagram
lol
social media cancer in general
This is why I am a grumpy tank commander on HLL. In my metal box with a loyal crew all is ok
We have a simple job
Same here
Everyone is happy
I like educating new players
And creating team spirit
It’s actually v interesting psychologically
It's usually not possible but sometimes you'll find capable people
I play tank for 5 minutes and i lose my shit
but if my gunner doesn't even know what "2 'o clock" means then I just leave
Im like tnt when i touch autism
😂 I’ve found that if you give people a sense of responsibility and expertise and guide them along, praise them, and give orders, they get in line because there is a narrative
Like, our tank vs the world, we are the best
Great crew etc
if they speak english
lmao
“Turn left, NO your other left! Why are you backing up!?”
takes 5 minutes to put that tank in reverse
doesn't understand the basics of gear shifting and RPM
This game isnt even hard, but its a measure of how dumb the avg person has become
I also often get a crew in which I'll tell the gunner the star on 12 but he'll turn anyway along with the driver, so by the time we face the enemy, the turret is at 9 or 3
“Driver, back up. Okay stop. Stop. Okay disembark.”
Tank is literally vertical up a telegraph pole.
“Mate when I say back up, I mean relatively, not keep backing up into infinity, otherwise this happens.”
Enemy tiger blows up our vertical tank.
“Okay see you back at spawn.”
The worst is a driver who keeps shifting the tank a little bit
people not knowing how to drive between houses and ramming a wall at 30km/h
eternally annoying
To be fair, tanks shouldnt be stuck in small ditches, thats just poor design
Or the guy who just moves off without orders, just driving
Yeah it's retarded
probably a physics problem idk
My favorites are the ones who choose to cut shortcuts through the forests on hill 400 or hurtgen
Problem is they didnt program the tank to have a vertical acceleration when the treads impact a surface
Oh God.
Lmao
And yeah I think it comes from how the take itself does the tracks and traction
pain
I think PS's tank combat is slightly better atm
unfortunately
I hope we catch up soon
The tank doesnt actually use tracks, it uses wheels with constraints server side
The guys who are like “yeah the map shows a vertical drop so ig I’ll just plough on in 4th gear”
PS has good tanks
Should I try Ps?
I didn't say they're bad, but they need work
eh maybe if you don't care about the money
but yeah it's sorta dead
you'll need to know a clan
All game vehicles use wheels, its how you program those wheel
Why do these games lose focus just as they are getting ok
There are never more than 3 servers with players, often none being full
Ffs it’s like forget physics, let’s do dlc and skins!!
Honestly I would like some more uniform variety
And so it showed
It’s worse having a game which is 80% there than a shitty buggy mess
HLL is about 25% away from being my favourite thing ever
Yeah. Also the command chat needs sorting out
yeah it's almost there
just need to iron out some things first
command chat is a fucking pain if it's too active
Like, I commend what they have achieved so far, it’s really awesome, so all my criticism is out of love for it
I would like an unteroffizier uniform for SL and maybe give some classes have their rank on the shoulder
yeah same here
Being hauptmann rank and then having it on your commanders uniform would be cool
I get agitated because all the AAA studios are pumping out sewage and pc gaming is dying a bit more every day
Yeah that, just with some white piping on their collars and maybe a medal like on the tank crews, just so you don't like like another basic bitch infantryman
Let's not get into that again because we'll be here all day
Not even that, just shoulder boards, collar, and visor
I can complain about it eternally
That's all they really need
True true.
Also just saying, default panzer uniform is not a heer panzer uniform
Won't be hard since the medals are already in game
Capping game devs
but yeah different ranks need to happen
To me also the command meta is odd. 50 players is like a platoon IRL
So HLL is really like a mechanised infantry platoon sim
Who have found some artillery lol
The new PS stats seem pretty good. Average for the month is back to late 2020 levels. And that was just on the back of a few days in November.
Me when my "heer tank crewman" is wearing a black SS panzer uniform and the lvl 8 unlock is an SS pea dot camo
I think the commander should have an assistant or two who could delegate information and also act as bodyguards
Like nice try devs, but we all know that's not the "heer"
A HQ squad construct would be interesting
lmao yeah but it's pretty cool
I dont care either way, but it should be called what it is
HQ is really like support function. If your max capacity is 6 in a squad than a two squad attack is only 12 men - it’s really not much to take an objective with unless people deploy covering fire etc
Post scriptum never seemed to value player progression
That's why I could never get into it
I could never get used to PS's maps
I’d also like a Commander battle plan that can be shared with the entire team
way too simplistic and bare bones
Just assign roles to squads and let SLs carry out the job
yeah if they'll fucking listen
if they even have microphones
jesus christ
I like silent squads who fuck off down to enemy HQ instead of capturing objectives
Love
Or locked infantry squads of one guy
On one match our commander had this funny french accent and he spent 15 minutes trying to get into contact with Able's SL so that he'd set up a garrison
Not as bad as locked 1-man tank crews
I'd like actual heer uniforms when we got more tanks
now that's infuriating
My special ire is reserved for the guys who stay off command chat and then walk up to Commander in local and start demanding stuff
They're adding the Panzer IV aren't they?
I only did that once when the commander was not responding on command chat for some reason
needed him to spawn a tank and he wasn't
I just love being blowtorched in the face by some weird tankie asking for a tiger over and over again
They have hummel coming
Yeah I saw the art
Depends on how they introduce it
I consider it a successful match if I can get SLs to use mic and tell me which squad they are AND use map references instead of “can I get arty on my mark”
Like, literally who the f are you I have no idea or where you are or what the mark is lol
Me, spending 15 seconds reloading a shell just to miss
Like the tarp part or the truck itself
Ah
of supply trucks
AP shells fly through it in my experience
I think half tracks as armoured transport will revolutionise the game
He shells work well
I thought it would count as a hit because they're supposed to be full of supply crates (even though they appear empty)
Finally we can have some sort of mechanised infantry combat.
I wish they'd tweak the weapons a little bit more as well
How?
Ever played Red Orchestra 2?
Heroes of Stalingrad
You can check your mag ammo level, approximately, you can change MG barrels if they get too hot
when you reload your MG your guy actually goes behind cover and doesn't keep standing up
and there's also range mechanics
(replaced the link with better video)
go to like 14:00 to see what I mean about MG reloading
nope he dosent go behind cover , it was only possible to go behind cover if you was using fixet mg
MG34 can also do single-shot fire which was a thing
yeah wrong video, I got a better one now
I also like that the MG gunner is wearing gloves to not get burnt
barrel replacement at 13:48
Is red orchestra 2 an old game? Sorry I am not familiar with it at all
eeh 2011 I think
yep , old game
Its a relic
It's got the gold standard of ww2 weapon machanics in my mind
just better than anything else I've ever seen
It's worth it imo
just prepare to die a lot lol
but yeah if you play HLL I guess that's fine
Define “ a lot”
Not more or less than HLL I guess
I mean in hll
oh well eh
Anyone have a rule of thumb or just an easier way to track the 200m distance between Garrisons?
Use the grid squares on the map
I think on maximum zoom, each square is 100x100
If you reach 25 deaths you suck
Is every two grids representative of 200?
Okay yeah. That's what I thought.
lmao
I once stayed alive for 90 mins
ahahaha
Death doesnt matter all too much, its how you contribute to the team that matter
We ended up in the north of the map in that town - I was last one alive
yeah that's why you don't really get points for actual kills as well
Sprayed a guy who came through a door
it's more so about the objective
I have played games where I've died 25 - 30 times but still have the highest scoring squad
Then lay in the road while Germans were all around us, turned around and killed a guy creeping up on me with a shovel with my pistol
Heart was beating so fast
He died next to me haha
haven't killed anyone with a shovel yet
Retreated to a house and waited for the end of the match for 5 mins just with my pistol pointed at the door and no ammo
Lol
gg
It was atmospheric tho
Interesting when the squad actually plays together you genuinely create defensive bottlenecks and can pick off enemy infantry
The Americans do have a big advantage on close quarters
We ended up fortifying a house in the town and spraying Germans on two sides
Was exciting
Yeah I played a game like that once
I was on the other side
Maybe we fought against each other
we all must have died like 30 times
It's possible lol
you had like 3 squads fighting over this one house
There was a lot of “you watch this window, you watch this window, we are not dying here tonight”
Yeah
Machine guns spraying down into the forest, people trying to cross open fields
i was playing medic and all I could see around me was revive prompts
Those pesky americans
brilliant
Me telling the squad to hold fire until all the poor fuckers were completely out of cover, and then just carnage
Ambushes in this game are hugely underrated
yeah because there's no fire discipline
everyone just fires whenever they see anything
Yep
Yeah it’s so stupid
In BFV I have amassed many many kills by just staying still
Human eye is trained to detect movement
Lol I can't stomach that game
yeah that's what I usually do as well
when I can stay still I do
not always an option
There’s nothing that breaks morale like mowing down a whole squad at once, they don’t know who or what killed them, but they ain’t going that way again right
Psychology
They'd be stupid to
but a lot of people do because they follow the Cod/BF revenge mentality
So they go down the same path again and again like three or four times
especially those players who play as lone wolves
Also supply drops in empty areas of the map because people will always chase after them. Captured a town like that last night - one squad just distracted them from a distance, some infantry ran to destroy it while not noticing an entire squad plus recon vehicle coming into the rear of the town.
Quick capture
This game does suffer from sneak capping because the whole team will be attacking
so you can literally have like 2 guys from the enemy team cap your rear
it's dumb
I do feel like the maps are too large sometimes but it also goes down to command organisation
and honestly everyone wants to attack
I don't really blame them
on the other hand, this sort of shit loses games
As I said above it’s because the 50 player team limit is really like a large platoon
It’s not quite enough to make a company tho
Definitely. And so the Commander role is awkward
Because you feel like you have a company at your disposal but you’re really just a platoon leader with the responsibility of all Hq stuff
I can see why they'd do it this way
wouldn't really be practical to delegate all the commander's responsibilities to the SLs
because SLs are unreliable
and don't coordinate
that does sound like a lot for this game yeah lol
especially if they've set up spawn points near
I don't complain about it
Lol that doesn't sound very manageable tbh
command chat would be chaos
😂
it already is sometimes
Yeah it would be impossible
You’d need like platoon commanders and a central commander
if they do 100 players per team, you'd have to have two commanders
per side
and you can make it out to be like the american commander and the british commander
Man WW2 must have been so much work lol
and then the wehrmacht commadner the ss/luftwaffe commander
No wonder it took 5 years
Logistically? Oh yeah
hundreds of millions of tons of paperwork was produced
on all sides
I’m trying to find some good history books about that element of it
The military history
Imagine you played an HLL game that lasted 50 minutes
Sparked by HLL actually
and after each game you have to sit down for an hour, recollect everything you did, and write a report about it
yeah, because you'd have to explain how pvt. so and so died
or why pvt. so and so deserves a commendation
Bureaucracy is ever-present even in hell I guess lmao
Tell his parents he died a hero, where in reality he solo’d and yolo’d a recon and drove straight into an enemy objective
sounds about right
Actually that's not a bad idea
I mean bravery medals
SLs should nominate soldiers
I want to be able to give a speech to some private and be like “son, you did your country proud today. Enjoy the pension.”
ahahaha
“Private Watson here is a credit to the United States of Americuh”
👍🏻
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQ3EFOPKrSM in the first minute of this video, he is dismantling a garry and enemies still spawn on it ?
I thought they couldnt spawn when you were on it?
its possible
is there going to be any DLC this Christmas, another winter dlc maybe such as uniforms and helmets?
Physics DLC - collision meshes and vertical acceleration!
Does the PTRS-41 (Soviet Anti-Tank weapon) resupply with explosive ammo or regular ammo?
regular
Thanks to all the people that helped me today... Appreciate it.. Met some great guys who took the time to teach ❤️
check out the TIK channel on yt, bucketload of info about behind the scenes and also book sources listed. Might also want to check Military History Visualised
careful with TIK
if he starts doing literally anything except reading a book by Glantz mute him
TIK is literally the worst youtube armchair 'historian'
i dont watch him, i use him as asmr to fall asleep lol
eww
I can only fall asleep to this one https://youtu.be/opDoE_GQgO4
What's his cat's name though
oh no
Hopped into a very friendly and helpful squad during my first ever game last night. Restored my faith in humanity a little bit.
don't worry that wont last long
But, HLL has probably the best community for newbies
We all hurt, but we welcome you to hurt with us ❤️
Just wanna make sure in case I completely missed things, the next update is being released on the 7th right?
yes
I'm sorry I'm from Asia. May I ask how I play this game from time to time LAG
I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with the internet. What should I do
Can this game be AMD3700X msi x570 gaming plus
Optimize it. I will be very touched. This is the reason why I have not played the game since I pre-ordered it.
Have you switched off motion blur in visual options? That can give impression of lag
I set all of them to the lowest
Can you describe the perceived lag? How does it manifest?
