And then getting back to gamepaly differences. HLL on console and PC are the same but the controller inputs are very different. So that creates some real differences in gamepaly

I enjoy RS2 and HLL, for different things. RS2 is a lot more fast paced and intense. HLL isn't, comparatively. But RS2 doesn't have vehicles, and HLL does, and they're pretty good all things considered. Sure, it's not WT or IL-2. I honestly don't think it should be just like them. Tanks work really well in the formula that HLL has put them into, though of course it'd be nice if a few things were adjusted. I'd like to see tank crew simulation, and different kinds of tank knock outs besides the tanks just exploding (this usually took far more damage than is simulated in the game, a tank could be put of action by a fire that is large enough to prevent the crew from operating it).
and again on PC there are flat out more options so its harder to do a straight recommendation of HLL
tanking in HLL has some real issues that we haven't got into

Despite their identicalness in features, the two versions of the game (console & PC) play distinguishably different due to the inherent allowance in controllability of a players' ability to aim and shoot targets:
In every other aspect being equal, the console version infantry combat gameplay encourages and reasonably allows for MORE team-oriented combative efforts. This is because of the inherent limitations of controller stick aiming, anyone who has extensively used a controller and a mouse to aim in shooter games will know of this distinction. Simply put, you are not being killed, or killing targets, as easily as you would be on the PC version of the game. These inherent differences in controllability of a players aiming and shooting, makes HLL on PC a much more lethal experience.
Due to this difference, on PC, it is much less feasible, and much less effective to "play with your teammates" when it comes to the infantry combat. On PC, a "strength in numbers" approach to combat is a much less viable and much less attractive option when engaging targets, as compared to the console version.
Regardless of your opinion on PCs vs console, if you are looking for a** more viably team-oriented** game where you are pitting one group of forces against another, the better option is the console version, and that is ONLY due to the inherent differences in aiming effectiveness.

Sure, team work in the immediate sense is more important on console. Doesn't mean there isn't effective team work on PC, of course. Just means you don't need to ask your teammate to shoot the same target as you because your means of doing so is inherently worse than on PC.
There's a lot more to teamplay besides that, though.
teamwork on PC, as it exists, tends to be at the squad <-> TL level and not at the infantry combat level
but that high level teamwork you can cheese more easily if you know what you are doing

Again, no denying that since you can physically aim better on PC because of tools at hand, the gunplay is different. Same game, though, and ultimately there's a lot more to teamplay than just what we've described. On some PC matches, none of this matters because the higher command isn't communicating, we don't have resources, infantry squads aren't coordinating, and so on. On some matches the stars align. Teamplay is much more than just 'How am I going to kill this enemy, do I need to ask someone to also shoot him?' It's "Where are the enemy, how can we effectively engage them with other squads, how are we going to defend/attack this OBJ," etc.
a lot of that high level stuff you can get away with not doing if you have good game sense

e.g. I was playing Kursk and saw my entire team at the front of the enemy SP. So I jumped into a logi and drove behind the SP and spawned a garrison. My team then redeployed and we ran them over

on PC probably the most important info is enemy tank location. Nearly everything else can be gleaned from watching the map if you have the hours
Cool for you. I'm talking about all of that being effectively communicated via teamplay. It's a different thing than what you're describing being different between console and pc. Nodes are still important, garry and OP placement, map control and awarenesss, regardless of what version you're playing.
The actual meat of what is teamplay is more or less identical between console & PC.

you have your TL and maybe 50% of your SLs
if you are a riflemen though its less of a thing
since you aren't directly interacting with that higher level of communication

Yeah, unfortunately haha, that's why you have matches where you and your squad can do really well but you get rolled anyway, because a lot of players don't want to pick up engi/do logi/ etc. Don't blame them, I almost exclusively play with tanks.

-shrug- its honestly the least effecive way to win the war, i mean its cool and all being a sniper dude and his bro, but to win ZHE WAR. you want basically anything else usually. i mean what a spotter and sniper can do, so can one dude in an armored car that driver over and shoots the arty dudes in the face and then drives off while cackeling with laughter.
There's certainly a use-case for recon that tanks/armored vehicles can't effectively fill. Recon use is just that, recon. Yes, sniping is definitely a large part of it, but their purpose is first and foremost to sniff out enemy positions, report on actions in enemy HQs, and things like that. If you have a recon squad that is doing that and sniping enemies, your team is so much better off. And the reason tanks obviously can't do what Recon (either in a vehicle or on foot) can is that they are loud, noisy, and vulnerable to AT in the places where one well placed, stealthy Recon crew could go with no problem.
I'd say that one recon squad should be doing mainly recon and the other should be holding down a flank and updating command and everyone as to development there.
But suffice to say, recon is useful for a lot more than just sniping, and the reason it seems particularly useless to some people is because most recon squads don't do any recon lol.

Recon is a weird squad
ideally the sniper i sjust off killing people while the RSL is playing Commandos
RSL has the power to remove rear area garrisons, nodes, and spawn camp HQ
especially with smart OP placement
while the sniper has, hands down, the best single infantry gun in the game and a good sniper can outpace armor crews
so should be focued on the active objectives where the highest concentration of enemy players are at
killing players is not as a good as killing spawn points. But a dead palyer is still making it easier for other people on your team to do their job
and its a far better use of the sniper than following the RSL around

Same thing. Drop is extreme and it’s pretty hard to consistently hit infantry to begin with. You have to watch for splashes and adjust. You’ll know you hit if the body bounces or gibs

take the space of the retical, and image that space below the curret reticle, for every 100 meters. so at 200 meters its the one you have plus one imaginary, for 300, two you have to imagine. beyond 300 i havent found a good way to hit with a rocket yet.
but to be fair as a frequent tank player i dont mind not gettign sniped by AT from long distances

I think the idea is that the medic is necessarily CQC, and a pistol might work better in that role for some.
but most of the maps are open fields..

Yeah, but the rationale is the medic will only really be supporting, staying back so that they don't get killed and leave their squad without a medic. So for those that want to fulfill that role as a CQC support class, a pistol is useful to them, maybe? Sometimes I'd rather have a side arm for CQC fighting than a rifle, personally. So it might be designed for people who feel the same way.

Medic can be pretty darn useful if used right. And using them right means not dying but being close enough to pick up your squad mates.
And, if need be, kill enemies in the process of picking up your squad mates.
Again, it's a support role. I think it's refreshing compared to something like BFV, where Medics are just another version of the assault role with SMGs.
Really?? Medics in my squad are one of the most vital aspects of the gameplay. We can revive our own team and others around - this is particularly good when the squad is pushing a flank alone or assaulting / defending an SP. Being able to respawn at an OP is one thing, but a medic is faster and you retain control of the the location…

Doesnt even have to be a Discord squad. I joined a game on the losing team 1-4 after 20 minutes in Carentan. Saw a squad without officer, joined that, checked up on everyone and started playing with randoms. Refreshing experience. Eventually won 4-1 and our squad did all the critical moves in all the captures.
Counterpoint, I’ve got 3 games under my belt so far. There are still new players coming in that don’t know how the game works yet.

For instance, today I was trying to ping a tank as an engineer and my sl was like “use the tank ping” so I tried to pull up the ping radial and couldn’t. Sl didn’t know why it wasn’t working so I googled it. As you probably already know, engineer doesn’t get the ping radial.

thats totally fair man, Ive been playing for a while now and even I shy away from lead roles bar tank commander. You'll get the hang of things soon enough, and considering ur on console if you can learn to play SL then you can get the edge over the other team easily enough

Commander is fairly easy if you have squads communicating just make sure to use final stand every 10 minutes generate all your resources and sometimes if you time it right you can get a resource free recon/bomb run.Other than that just support your squad leads get them supplies and don't drop airheads in the open lol

every game is much more enjoyable with people you know as with everything, but the basics with randoms should still be playable
you can also just not talk and play it like a normal shooter

The game is playable with randoms, though the concern is with your personal level of tolerance of the inherent randomness that comes with playing with strangers. If this randomness is what determines whether or not you are having an enjoyable experience, there is a clear alternative to solve it -by playing with friends.
The Game is with Randoms and without Friends Fun too but with Friends its a different experience for sure. And dont play it like a BF or COD. Important is Team work. And look alot on the map to see how the situation is at all but if you have a good commander everything will be fine if not still have fun. This game is Gold!

The problem is that the game does very little to team or incentivize random players to play well together. Unfortunately, the task of teaching new players and placing spawns (i.e. winning games) falls on veteran players. Most of us are burnt out and would rather play with friends, than take on the weight of teaching game mechanics while simultaneously playing the game
I liked the randomness too the first few weeks. But in a real war your random colleagues have been trained a bit (I hope). Many games now involve the same repetitive problems. We’re tired of being the tutorial in nearly every single game
And again I would argue that there are barely any reasons for newer-ish players to be so completely oblivious most of the time. It's not like any of the game's mechanics require you to be some sort of rocket scientist. It is quite a standard concept of spawns, classes etc. once you just pay attention a tiny bit.
That said, I always keep my squad unlocked and will do my best to help a new player that actively what to learn and play

I believe it's a matter of either players not wanting to understand the game for various reasons or players thinking the game is extremely complex, so they don't even bother trying to look beneath the surface of mechanics.

There is an inherent dislike for offensive mode that has built up over time, and ppl have become prejudicious about rotating to offensive maps ever since. But recent changes have made offensive mode much more fluid, intuitive and fun compared to warfare mode.
Its pure 50vs50, no splitting up between attacking squads and defending squads.
You dont have to worry too much about building garrisons unless you are defender.

You're wondering why the three slots left to reach a hundred haven't been filled?
Also observe VIP slots. If server has 3 VIP slots, it will show 97/100 and full queue untill VIPs fills those slots.
But also server browser refreshes badly.

this is honestly one the FEW issues i have with this game. a server with 96 full, and 2/6 of its VIP slots full[assuming that means the last four slots are VIP only]. and have 6 people in queue should be listed as a FULL server. and be filtered out with over full servers in the enlist screen,

It has it's own unique penetration tier in the Tankopedia under "thin", and my impression is that this was tested and compiled after U10 came out, so it should be fully accurate. I also haven't ever experienced this in a Luchs or fighting against a Luchs with Medium to Heavy tanks.

There is such a big difference in how aiming controls on sticks vs a mouse.
Both versions of the games are identical on paper, but the difference in the level of control a player has with their aiming makes them a very different experience.
Yeah, unfortunately PC-console crossplay is something that even big FPS developers don't bother with. Go ahead and name one multiplayer FPS with PC-Console crossplay; I can't think of any. It's a far more complicated task than you'd think at first sight. It's not just about making servers that connect PC & console, you also have to figure out how to balance the game effectively after that is done; and the fact that no one has bothered seems to mean you simply can't.
And I'm sure most people would much rather have the devs focus on just making content updates and not go on a wild goose chase to establish a PC-Console crossplay system; for really no apparent reason other than the console port would be worse off with it. Supposedly, anyway. Again, I don't think this is something that can be balanced effectively for a tactical FPS. As others have attested, there's a hard cap to what you can do with a controller compared to mouse & keyboard, and console players would be at a massive disadvantage. And so, it would likely be more detrimental to the console ports than helpful.
Maintaining parity between PC & console is more than enough.

The end result is that you'd have unhappy players from both sides, from both platforms.
PC players wouldn't be satisfied with having to play with/against console players with aim-assist

Gunplay is two things: (1) weapon handling/characteristics, and (2) the damage model
damage range should change, its odd that you get hit by a mg42 from like 300m and instantly die... it should almost kill you, giving you a chance to bandage up. that what i would do as a dev

The MGs "issue" is that there's basically no reason to use it as you would traditionally think an MG is used.
There is no reason to ever shoot more than single shots at a time.

TBH, I wouldn't mind seeing actual ammo simulation and tactical reloads like in '83 for HLL. But I doubt it's something anywhere on the dev's priorities list. They likely would have had that established as a game system from the beginning if it was in the plans.

That's something I do actually mind a bit. Out of the games which have bolt action weaponry, HLL lacks behind. Verdun's bolt actions are better for overall gunplay, for example. RO series, as well, even RS2.
