Not knowing what killed you makes the game hard to get in to sometimes, but if you hear a bullet crack near you, go prone usually helps. Stay near cover and move slowly

if you don't see any green crosses near you when you die, there's no medic around and it's faster to redeploy

Your best choice is to obtain a mic, it heavily hinders squads if you lack communication
But like Novum said, use something a bit easier to spray and pray with for now, and avoid command positions

It’s not difficult per se, however you are depended on by the whole team to take down garrisons, spot other spawn points/strong hold areas, and eliminate enemy artillery issues. If you are brand new, I wouldn’t recommend recon, I’d recommend jumping in a squad as a riflemen, or support, something easy and get to know the game first! Good luck!

Armor is sooo fun. You can get away with 2 people in a recon tank, anything bigger (light medium heavy) I recommend 3 for a full squad as you can get flanked easily without a spotter

The only learning curve with armor is driving, but even that is easy once you learn

Yea on certain modes it’s common. On offensive in particular, the mode where you can’t retake points once lost, they do that to simulate a real experience seen during D-Day

Makes it really hard to get the point, but once you get off the beach and do it, totally worth it

If it’s any other mode then you just spawn on the beach and don’t have to go via boat

because they penetrate more than the bazooka. a bazooka has to shoot a medium in the back, a panzerschreck can shoot it in the front. for heavies the shreck and piat can shoot the side, but not the front (with the exception of IS-1 which has two small weak spots)

just start off with working with the squad leader as much as possible (especially if they are communicating/trying to play the role). It could be reviving as a medic, helping make a push, suppressing enemies with an mg, dropping supplies, etc.. basically anything really, or whatever they need at the time

Defend points, the amount of teams who just rush attack and then have their defence point capped is quite significant

On the attack, go from different directions and flank around wide, not small narrow flanks, but like across the map flanks and wrap around will put pressure on multiple directions

C: That sounds like 'pay to win' bullpucky and I don't want that in the absolute slightest, I hate elitism.

E: This is likely a bug rather than intended, and should probably get addressed.

A) They indeed have no moderation besides vote kicks
B) Shoving all maps into rotation and randomly shuffling them. Too many night maps, often too many typically considered "unpopular" maps in succession. As a new player, that is typically not as big of a problem though I'll admit.
C) How is being able to skip the queue pay-to-win? It doesn't affect gameplay whatsoever, and most servers allow you to earn it in one way or another without paying for it. It's just an easier way to get into your favorite servers and helps a lot with community building.
D) Rank elitism? I'm not claiming I'm better than anyone else. New players with little experience just tend to flock to official servers a lot more than other players, and naturally that simply means the average experience on official servers is a lot lower.
E) It's a simple configuration error that can be fixed by changing a single number in the server config on the go. It's been like this for a year. It could have easily been addressed sooner if they cared.

If you want to play on official servers go ahead. All I'm saying is that there's a reason why all of them (and I really mean all of them) were empty up until the game released to Gamepass a couple months ago.

My doctrine

Anything less than 8 garrisons is a needless handicap. Build at least 6 of them in the blue, preferably with supplies from the Support - only build in red when everything else is done.
Always seek the path of least resistance. Find another angle to get what you want rather than dying 10 times in the same spot.
Sometimes the best you can do is hold your position. You cant attack over an open field, but if your squad leaves the spot, the enemy will take it and advance to your point.
Do not follow other squads. One MG, tank or arty will farm all of you. Even a rifle will farm all of you.
Dont stack spawns next to each other. Doing so only makes it easy for the enemy to flank and encircle you.
Support, AT, MG and Engineer are the most useful classes. Assault, Automatic rifleman and Rifleman have almost zero utility. (only play medic if you really need smokes)
Do not play in squads that dont have an officer, unless you're all on a specific mission, like hunting tanks, using arty or dropping supplies for garris.
Officer's main job is to manage spawns, spot enemy tanks and airdrops, and watch the map as the battle progresses.
Usefulness of the MG increases with distance (up to 500m). It's almost useless in a forest when you have to fight enemies within 50-100m.
Default to defending, building spawns and keeping the enemy out of the 400x400m capzone. Victory often results from defensive actions, as the enemy is slowly choked on all sides.
Protect your tanks and spot enemy ones.
Hunt and destroy the enemy spawns and they fall automatically. Nobody can win with just their HQs.

When people say they "hate gamepass players" what they really mean is that they "hate people that do not understand the game". And with gamepass bringing a large flux of new players to the game, there was an undeniable impact on the overall quality of games.

But to say gamepass players are at fault is unfair to say the least. There were also several sales on other platforms bringing in new players, and it's not like the game itself does a great job at helping players understand it. You have to actively look for youtube videos or learn it from tens of hours of experience.

This game isn’t anything like any of those, so you might as well forget most of what you learned if you’re applying it here.

Best thing you can do is have patience, always be scanning around you and always be stopping if you hear the slightest noise. Enemies could be literally anywhere so make sure you keep your head on a swivel

If you're on gamepass, you have to enable crossplay in the game options. If it shows as restricted then -> ⁠⁠#mess-hall message
If you're on steam, make sure you're not launching (public testing) from your library

Recently i've been liking BFv a lot again and i'm looking for different games to try out too, so of course Hell Let Loose showed up. I don't know if i'll enjoy the realism part of it but i would like to know other people's experience with that.

Like its harder to see enemies for example.

I've also played some RoN and enjoyed that, i said that because i feel it's also one of the more realistic games like HLL.

Hey anyone got a solution to the end user agreement showing up and all my presets and settings being reset when I open the game, its as though opening the game for the first time again. It doesnt do this every time but id say every 5th time I open the game

This happens when your game doesn't close properly, eg. after a crash, restarting Windows while the game's still open, exiting Steam(?), stuff like that

After fixing your settings and you're happy with them, you can close the game, press Win+R, enter %localappdata%, go to HLL/Saved/Config/WindowsNoEditor/ and either back up the contents of that folder (two .ini files) or change those files to read-only.

If you back it up, the next time your settings get reset, close the game, replace the folder with your backup, and restart the game. If you change it to read-only, they never get reset again, but any changes you make to your settings after that won't persist between restarts.

a good way to find a community is go through the server browser and note who is running the server you enjoy playing in. Usually servers will have a community discord and people in this game are shockingly helpful

one good pointer that video leaves out - the game makes itself LOOK like battlefield or something. you wanna get into the circle and cap the point. more important (and you will quickly learn this as it happens to you) is that in order for the enemy to put men near the point, they need spawn points near the point. Killing these spawn points is the most important thing in the game

maybe its your rig? probably a bug tho

in any case turn your rig off and on again, if that doesnt work, uninstall then reinstall
