Pick any role that's not squad lead and just play. If the squad leader asks for something to be done and you don't know what or don't know how to do it. Just ask him.

I think new guys can take AT and support. I mean they need to be filled at nearly all times anyway. Only issue is if they're new and they refuse to comm, then you get the situation of X job needing to be done and the new guy not doing it. In the case that he is comming however, the new guy will be plenty good for doing his job in a pub match. Whether that be taking down a tank (obv. expect some misses first) or a support dropping supplies.

Not always does it work, but when so many moving parts exist, can you really expect it to?
That being said, there's not a single game in the world where players after an update don't start complaining about hit reg even though nothing's actually been changed. It's always been a placebo. Whilst cherry picked examples are always provided, it never resembles the vast, vast majority of kills at any given time in any given server. So it becomes ultimately irrelevant.

Alas, thanks to very high system requirements, poor optimisation (noticeable the fuller a server is) and the vicious cycle of "low player count -> new player sees low player count -> doesn't hop on because it's 'dead' -> low player count", it never really grows, at least not long-term.

Honestly. I played it during it's free weekend like a long time ago and I actually liked it quite a bit.
The only turn-off I really had was how frequently you could rush way past the active cap point to pop down team-wide spawns to use later.

The whole thing about taking it away, bringing it back, and then changing the deployment of the testing client and then not being able to generate enough interest to keep it full is really frustrating
