I had gsit installed but I removed it together with some other plugins that I suspected. Any idea how I can remove this behavior? Or how to clean my install?

OK Thanks that helped. I only was in a hurry so I just removed all plugins that I added after the last time everything was working. I will add the plugins slowly back if I find the plugin that was responsible I will update this thread. For now I think what you said about GSit sounds most plausible.
