Okay so, I have an nvidia geforce rtx 4070 ti, and it's been working great for like a year or something. This friday, it suddenly crashed. I stopped getting any input and the lighting on the card turned off, before restarting a couple seconds later (not returning any graphics). I was maybe 20 minutes into a session of a new game, so I can't think of anything at all that would have directly triggered this.
This has happened persistently since then, with no cause i've been able to identify. After it crashes, if you turn it back on immediately, it will often crash again within seconds of loading (as opposed to the minutes you get otherwise), which implies a heat problem, but i've seen it crash when it's displaying less than 40 degrees, so if that's related, it doesn't seem like the main cause.
Since friday, it hasn't been able to run for more than about an hour without crashing, with the actual intervals varying for reasons I can't figure out. On some, but not all of these crashes, I can still hear the audio playing, but in all cases my input seems to be disabled (obviously i can't test that conclusively, but no audio cues play in response to expected input.)

So i have:

  • Reinstalled latest drivers
  • ran an OS check for corrupted files
  • deleted the only thing i installed before this started (a random steam game)
  • refitted both wires on both sides
  • taken out and reinstalled the card, making sure it was secure
  • reinstalled my sound drivers (apparently that causes issues idfk?)
  • attempted throttling its power
  • attempted forcing the fan speed on high
  • checked for any obvious external damage

So, any ideas for what might be the issue and/or how i might resolve it? Can perform tests or provide more information if requested.
    My wallet thanks you.

Hi I'm AutoThreadBot! Don't mind me, I'll just be adding the helper team to this thread so they can see it. A human will get to you soon.

(oh, also, this doesn't seem to happen while i'm running on integrated graphics like i am now)

#

(oh, also also, sometimes it fails to load at all, just displaying a couple green pixels. When this happens, i have to restart 2 or 3 times to get gpu graphics back)

do you have a different power supply you can use to test if that is the issue?

#

or a different pc to swap the gpu into to know for sure its the gpu and not another component

no warranty for it?

And yeah I would assume a PC repair shop would be able to plug it into a test PC for a small fee

yeah they would be able to do a test. but i strongly advise you to keep an eye on your gpu at all times

#

my brother had his gpu (gtx 1650) replaced with a counterfeit one that was way worse when he sent it to repair. but a small bit of violent words made them return the correct gpu.

spent the morning taking it to a couple different places, and eventually decided to replace it. Got a 4070 ts, which appears to be working fine so far

thanks for the advice
