(charlie909) does citizens support 1.17.1?
Hi I'm AutoThreadBot! Don't mind me, I'll just be adding the helper team to this thread so they can see it. A human will get to you soon.
You can block this bot if you don't want to see these messages, I won't mind.
<@&525394568410038282>
and yes, i did buy the plugin
No, we recommend updating
well the newer versions don't support 1.17.1 and i can't switch versions this late in server development
Why not?
- newer versions of minecraft have terrible performance, and the server plan can't deal with the stress
- i skript alot, and i feel updating would most likely break 90% of them
- switching versions is a whole process with converting worlds which i don't want to deal with
!rule 3
Don't ping for help. https://denizenscript.com/discord_rules#rule3
"Pinging" refers to using an @ to alert somebody to your post.
Generally only ping somebody if your message is very specifically directed at them (meaning, only that person has anything to do with the information in your message, and it would be confusing who it was for without the ping).
If you're asking a question, please just make a forum post and ask.
If you have a bug report or a feature request, please just make a forum post about it.
If this is pulled up for you by a helper, your ping was unneeded.
If you're arguing about it, you're wrong.

@peak laurel
please dude, i do not want to have wasted my 10 bucks, don't just tell me to "update" because i literally gave you 3 reasons why i can't, is there a specific plugin version i have to use to avoid this or what???
like, you can't be serious right now, i scrolled through like 20 threads looking for answers and in every single one the staff member just says "update" and does not provide a useful answer
newer versions of minecraft have terrible performance, and the server plan can't deal with the stress
objectively provably wrong. 1.17 is notable in fact for having rather poor perfomance compared to any of it's surrounding versions
i skript alot, and i feel updating would most likely break 90% of them
probably wouldn't, but obviously I can't make any promises about Skript. If you made the scripts to start with, updating them would surely be pretty trivial
switching versions is a whole process with converting worlds which i don't want to deal with
literally just not a thing. people say this a lot and i don't know why. You don't have to do anything, minecraft has world-updating built-in.
I can continue to give you the many many reasons why you should update if you'd like. Having searched through 20 threads, you presumably saw that 90% of these end with the user updating and their issue being fixed.
then can't you just tell me how to fix the error?
like is there just nothing i can do?
can i get a refund?
Sorry for the delay, I’m at work. There’s old builds in #news and on spigot. It’s highly recommended to not use them because there are no ongoing updates but they are linked in several places.
and may i ask why the newer versions don't support specifically 1.17.1?
Few reasons:
It’s an old version and every old version that is supported takes time to do so.
Spigot has a file size limitation that reduces the number of versions that can be put into the jars
but what makes 1.16.5 a more important version than 1.17.1

@hollow jewel
wdym? 1.17.1 is used so much more than 1.16.5 (from what i’ve seen) and 1.16.5 doesn’t have as many blocks and stuff as 1.17
even in global stats you can see that 1.16.5 is much more widely used than 1.17.1
anyway, this discussion is kind of circular
either update (very recommended) or use an old version of citizens (very much not recommended)

@hollow jewel
some plugins don't support 1.16.5 so we are using 1.17.1 please bring back 1.17.1 support.
^ you have absolutely no reason to stay outdated, and every reason to update - what's holding you back?
just cause 1 plugin has a shitty support team and doesn't help anyone fix the ACTUAL issue going on here doesn't mean i should have to update my ENTIRE server just for ONE tiny plugin
please don't insult the support team. I have provided you the alternative solutions multiple times.
The issue is fixed in recent versions. As fullwall explained to you multiple times you can try the last 1.17.1 build from #news. It's your decision to stay on outdated versions, we can not provide support for.
1.18.2/1.19.4 is still supported, even 1.20.1, so you don't even have to do a big version jump, where most plugins might stop working.
since spigot has a version limit could i theriotically modify the server jar to get it to run on 1.17
I’m not sure what you mean. Regardless, please follow the instructions

@hollow jewel
well you said that it has a version limit so it doesn't run on 1.17.1 but could i modify the latest jars code so that it does run on 1.17?
Why can't you update? you are literally making an active choice to have worse performance, security issues, bugs, no support, less features, exploits, etc. for no benefit whatsoever
We're trying to help you, but you still haven't explained why are you using an old version of Minecraft instead of the latest one
And we're not the only plugin dropping support for older versions, Paper themselves only support 1.20.1, and there are several other plugins who drop support for old versions as well, as there's no reason to be using them
do you understand that i have given several reasons why i can't switch
and you are refusing to give help just because my server is on an older version which is still supported by 90% of plugins
i don't understand what kinda drugs you are on but plugins aren't dropping support for 1.17.1
that's just not a thing
@hollow jewel I don't know what extra help you need beyond here is the old version to use
what help are you wanting from us?
on how to fix the error
Try the old version for 1.17.1
If that's not gonna work there is nothing left we can do, except helping you to update your servery
delete the citizens/ folder in your plugins directory and use the old version for 1.17.1
^ You haven't given any valid reasons
You're server is worse off on order versions in every way, you're literally making an active choice to put your server at risk and have worse performance
@pseudo zealot going in circles, I think we'll leave it

@hollow jewel
What?
We are trying to give you advice to help you make good decisions for your server and keep it performant and stable - obviously this is just advice, so you're welcome to do whatever you want, but we're unable to support outdated versions no one should ever be running anymore
