#Add Harder Economic Difficulties

I’m playing on the hardest economic difficulty in career, but I’m still always flush with cash, giving me a huge cost advantage over my enemies. This removes a lot of the challenge for me, and encourages me to make huge laggy ships. I know I could artificially challenge myself by purposefully wasting a ton of money, but doing that is really unfun and demotivating for me.

I wish there were more economic difficulties, to force me to care about making ships cost-effective. Not sure what you would call the harder difficulties, but maybe architect and engineer?

You can mod such difficulties into the game pretty easily

Given that you can just mine asteroids and salvage more, a harder economy would just make the early game grind harder. The late game would be more or less the same.

Soon we'll need another suggestion to add more career generation options such as asteroid generation, kiters, harder difficulties, starting faction repitation...

Is cash even relevant after unlocking all blueprints

Or rather the game simply doesn’t have a good resource/cash sink

I think a good economic hard mode would be to add upkeep costs, like your ship slowly taking damage that you need to to repair, or your crew having actual salaries

Wait, I have a hot stupid idea

Why not just make sun zone grow larger (Red Giant) if you don’t keep throwing ships into the sun as sacrifice

That’s a good point, maybe the game can introduce some kind of end game threat that the player has no means to defeat at start of the game and pressure player on time management (start slowly devouring systems / you can’t just sit and mine indefinitely / FTL red zone) and player will be able to defeat it after growing enough

The game also doesn’t stop you from just friending everyone

Idk if its still like this but when I used to play SS befriending pirate makes them send un-disguised traders to your colony
