#Overclocked Exterior Headlights

Right now headlights are purely decorative, which is fine, but it would be nice for headlights to have a functional use too.

Overclocked headlights shift their frequency from visible light to infrared, preventing them from lighting up ships (as to not disturb aesthetics), but they extend your vision to 1,200 meters in an extremely small size (maybe like 2°?). Overall they’re meant to make the fog of war feel less like an inflexible wall, but something that can be worked around and used to your advantage (especially in gas clouds).

Stats:

(Overclocked)

Exterior Headlight
Command points, -1

Light Beam (deck-mounted)
Damage, 0
Range, 1200 meters
Light Arc, 2°
Heat Gen, 150 mj/s

#

Also if any devs/modders see this, would it cause lag if the sensor buff could increase the headlight’s range to 1600 meters but decrease the arc to 1°? I think it’d be cool but I don’t want to force the game to load more.

overclocked lights sound fun but this is like

#

insanely OP lmao

#

or at the very least

#

having a 1 block sized light shine up to 1200m is nuts

#

i think smth a bit more minor could be fine like idk

#

having missiles target them automatically ig if you wanna stay w the infrared idea

#

since they are a big source of heat, the missiles could either auto target them or perhaps just go nuts when near em

maaybe just a significant boost for use in gas clouds? don't want it to go beyond sensor range in other contexts

Exterior Headlight: -1 command points
Does this mean they would consume a command point or provide one? The latter would be really funny

velvet arch
# loud nebula insanely OP lmao

wait I don't understand why it's op
I thought it wouldn't have a huge impact since weapons can't shoot past 600 meters anyway. (well EMPs can go 700 meters but they don't deal much damage)

i own flashlights with more power than those lights, i find it hard to believe they wouldnt turn into an incendiary weapon if you overclocked em

#

and TRL said "let there be light"

#

thinkin bout it, overloading turret sensors and redirecting missiles would be a funny too

#

i like the idea of making them into lights to see thru gas clouds tho

#

oh also i think the ranges are being rebalanced now too

#

sooo id rather keep off this discussion

velvet arch
#

the reason it's still in testing is because they are trying to figure out the sensor buff

#

but like fr I feel like I'm missing something, why would this be insanely op?

fleet thistle
#

would be no reason not to just have in all directions if it went beyond normal vision range, but perhaps would be cool if up to three or four had full effect in gas clouds

loud nebula
#

considering how bad the accuracy can be on some weapons

#

but yeah main issue w the headlights is the fact they are like way too easy of a way to gain sensor range

velvet arch
loud nebula
#

you can see them before they see you

#

and because its so cheap then EVERYONES forced to use it

#

and as pointed out you can really easily just make a full circle of headlights

#

also fog lights or smth just make more sense than a headlight having twice the range of a radar station

#

another issue is just the fact that these sorta compete with radar

#

since youll be facing most enemies anyway

#

remember when overclocked railguns were specifically unlimited range?

velvet arch
fleet thistle
#

do exterior headlights become tall when overclocked?

velvet arch
# loud nebula another issue is just the fact that these sorta compete with radar

that's kinda the point. rn radar stations are a must-have for any ship that can fit one. Being able to diversiy your options adds more depth. But I think most ships will still need a radar station, since only being able to get a good look at one thing at a time will be quite limiting, and mico-managing 10 headlights it just a pain.

you can fixed position the headlights*

Doesn’t seem like you wanted it to effect anything anyway

Let's not try to overclock inert decorations

was also noted that HE missiles had 100% precision, unlike most other weapons at that range

fair point
might need to doublecheck what cockpit visibility range is

base visual is 400m, regular sensors 800m, OC sensors 1200m

would cabal stations just blind themselves...

silent bane
#

hm yes they would become the sun

fleet thistle
#

given the direction their ship design is headed, it wouldn't be heretical

silent bane

the radiators create their own danger zone for the cabel's artificial sun too
