I suggest introducing cobalt and cobalt rocket into the resources, and adding radiation contamination to the fires as well.

what would cobalt do?

A cobalt bomb is a theoretical modification of a nuclear weapon that produces severe radioactive contamination of an area even in a relatively weak nuclear explosion. It is a radiological weapon, the main factor of destruction of which is external and internal irradiation of the victim and his subsequent death from radiation sickness.

Ordinary radioactive contamination fades fairly quickly, but here the use of cobalt makes the contamination long and active. In general, it is a terrible thing for total destruction of any life for decades.

Why not just use uranium, adding a new resource just for one neich weapon doesn't make much sense, plus most would associate uranium causing radiation

Adding cobalt to other materials increases their durability, i.e. there is a legitimate opportunity to modify an engine or gun by adding some cobalt to its production, increasing its survivability. Adding cobalt to the production of a nuclear missile gives a persistent radioactive contamination, which works like a fire, but much slower and to remove the contamination you will need a decontamination post, as well as a fire extinguisher. All of this brings variety to the game and game events. Of course you can endlessly mine the same resources, just adding functionality to them, this is also quite a working option, but adding a new resource in the game is generally not particularly labor-intensive. I for the evening added 5 new resources, although I made such a modification for the first time.

game has never been about "upgrades" plus dealing with fire and radiations sounds like hell

messing around with the crew seems like a very bad idea

#

most ship crew routes are tailor made and therefore everything will go terribly wrong if something unexpected happens to the crew

#

it may work on mines but anything else will make this unfair to play against given that you can't just resupply crew in the middle of a fight

Messing with the core part of the game is a bad idea, generally only fine if its the players fault like the deck cannons crew stun. It shouldn't be the enemies fault if the player can help it

But if each crew member had their own debuff system, you could make a spiffy biological weapon that strikes a crew member on contact. It would be very interesting to watch the whole crew passing the virus to each other, but so far the crew has only appearance and name.
