#Weapon variants

Cannons, disruptors chainguns and more. We have weapons, but could we do more with them? Most weapons have fire arcs. What about making more fixed weapon types?

They could be more powerful or increased range than their pre-existing counterparts or narrower, faster fire rate or any numner of other types of advantage.

Who says the devs have to try inventing new weapons? Why not create more variations of existing ones?

I would love to see this be taken in the other direction and make topside turrets. A Topside chaingun turret could use four directional inputs of ammo and alternate between them so that it would reduce downtime which would be ideal for a station defense platform

Those are just a few ideas would love to hear others.

its because variations are boring and bloat the game. Thats what mods are for

i always found being able to pick a new type of laser for a new laser using fighter less boring than using the same laser for every single one of them though

as long as they are different enough from one another they would be cool
basically, don't do it like this

kroom hating lmao but thats fair

I think a good idea would be a fixed mounted missile torpedo launcher

#

If it will be small enough for smaller ships to use but will take a lot of ammo, it might be a very useful thing

#

Like, 2x4 or 2x3 should be a great size for such a weapon

there are multiple ways to do that
one of the things i feel like isnt considered enough as a method is how the weapon is placed on your ship
ex:

long wren

rather a deck gun balanced around having to have a certain thickness of armor

Railgun missiles pew pew pew

it could actually be cool if some powerful weapon was designed like this

Continuing the idea
Corner weapons. Keep all the stats the same but a different firing angle would allow new ways to build ships.

Imagine if chainguns were not just forward or side facing.
The same logic could also be applied to shields.

I'd like more Deck weapons, over more exposed weapons.

plus youll never see a diagonal modular weapon

# frosty hamlet this, however, is something that we almost certainly aren't getting. walt has me...

Just ideas for weapon varients.

On a wedge style ship you normally suffer from either your weapons having a blindspot right in front of your ship or to the sides of your ship making it so that you have to have weapons in two directions to cover your bases but it spreads your firepower out too much to be viable.

Currently this makes diagonal ships the only viable option for wedge style weapon loadouts. Otherwise you end up with a "wall of guns" brick of a ship.

weapons are stronger on diagonal ships

i think what u r describing is design skill issue
