That is showing the distance the ship needs to travel to get to its attack default, not the distance to the ship
What makes you say that? Where in the description of this element does it say that?
It's distance to your ship's destination and not distance to its target; in your second screenshot, it's comparing distance between your ship's current position, and its desired position. That position is about a third of the distance of moving to the enemy's actual position, which lines up with the difference in km you're seeing.
I don't get it. The first screen shows the destination point next to the enemy ship and it's really more than 820 meters away, because the ship's defense is not working yet. The second screen shows a ship next to the destination point, which is still more than 820 meters away, but the distance sensor says it's 260 meters away. Do we have different meters? Is it more one way than the other? It doesn't matter if I highlight the destination or the ship, the distance sensor should show the distance, not switch its functionality depending on the target.
