This would allow players to appeal to distant neutral ships to come assist in a battle. Options could include a credits bribe, resources in storage, or scrap from the destroyed ship.

Other uses -

  • If players are close enough to a station, players could report the attack and that faction could send out police of some sort. I like the idea of taking reputation with that faction into account of how large a force they send or if they send any at all.
  • Having a comms room could give better odds of the enemy surrendering/less cost to surrender.
  • Multiply ships in your fleet having a comms room could receive a bonus to speed of falling into formation (this one might be a stretch...)

Application -

  1. It would be kind neat to this to a 1x1 room (it would be cool to have more in the game) and maybe the more you have the longer the range you could reach out to ships/stations. Maybe the rooms would need to be connected in order to get a bonus.
  2. It could just be a 2x2 room with no bonus for simplicity. I think the surrender message should remain even without the room.

This could also be another option to target on the enemy ship to prevent them from calling reinforcements.

The part seems cool, I added it to our potential parts list.
I think the part would need more to it, as right now its primary use case isn't a feature that's in the game (calling police to help).
A part like this would be great down the line when we're on faction war systems, but it will probably first need to start out as a part that solves a problem. Example problem: How will players communicate with far off factions (if they need to)? If we allow players to be commanders of AI, how do they communicate with them? Potential for guiding factions to locations or calling for help. That sort of stuff for potential future features. Once the part is solving current problems we can implement and find other niche uses cases for it like the surrender odds and such.
Feels like a cool part though, and appropriate/expected on space ships, or maybe specifically flag ships.

Currently, the utility would be contacting neutral ships for trade at longer distances. Since hailing has a range cap, a communications room extends that range.

#

Would be useful if you have a sensor array, but the default hailing range doesn’t reach within that extended sight range.

Yeah I'd say the ability to signal for help would be an implementable with in the current mechanics. I always love it when a neutral ship helps out with a battle with a pirate and having a way to incorporate that into a part would be a lot of fun. It would help make the world feel more alive and interactive. The "police" stuff could come down the line.

this could also maybe give a boost to the radar of ur ship?

#

as in you can see pings from ships for further distances without actually being able to see them

#

either that or maybe be able to see more info of ships in ping distance?

#

like some sort of estimate for size like different sized blips

#

that was suggested before i think actually
