#power converter or overcharger, something like that

basically, a 2x2 part that you can stick multiple batterys in to combine them to make 1 battery that lasts longer then a regular one,

i suppose it could be used for things that run out of power fast like: ions, mining lasers, boost thrusters and the MRS.

for conversion with different reactors it would go something like:
6 small reactor battery's,
3 medium reactor battery's
2 large reactor battery's
(because dividable number or something)

basically it needs 6 battery's, it eats one and uses the power to fuse the other 5 into an [cell] that has the power of 5 separate battery's combined,

example: an ion has 10 battery's, it uses 1.25 power/sec witch means it takes 8 seconds to drain,
with the [cell] it goes up to 50, and takes.... 40 seconds?!....

#

a boost thruster has 13.3R seconds of boost, with the [cell] it ends up with: 66.6R seconds of boost

#

a mineing laser functions for 8.3R seconds, with the [cell] it works for 41.6R seconds

#

(the R stands for repeating by the way)

#

Good idea! not OP because needs time to charge and eats giant amount of energy, in exchange giving a huge boost and advantage to first 20-40 seconds of fight

#

as example, durability of shield is literally its charge

#

so you literally multiply it by 5

#

from 12K to 60K, that still dies from a nuke, but close to being indestructible for small ships

#

i'm still trying to think of a name for the [cells] but since the wiki calls the regular batterys plasma batterys, i supose i could call them plasma cells

#

i do also feel like them being blue in coloration might look cool

#

or an orangeish red

#

i guess if a capasiter stores 18 batterys, then a overcharger would store 5 [cells]

#

have 9 slots, 6 for the batterys that are being converted and 5 for the [cells]

plain osprey
#

maybe have it be green and glow really bright

tropic bay
#

batterys go in the top, and [cells] come out the botom

tropic bay
#

just realised i did the spite wrong

#

better

#

wait...

plain osprey
#

what did you use to draw that

#

heres how i imagine the part working

#

(white is doors)

#

also i forgot to fill parts of it :(

#

maybe there would be a setting on the cell maker that specifies how many batteries is the minimum for it to make a cell

tropic bay
#

that definitely looks better then my atempt at drawing

#

i guess with the batterys you put one in the green spot and the other 5 in the left cylinder, (it'd be cool if it rotated) then it shuts an iris hatch over it . and on the other side a [cell] rolls out

#

like rightside haveing a belt (blue is cell)

night ridge
plain osprey
#

theres supposed to be a belt but i drew over it

#

i think rotating isnt worth the extra frames, might decrease performance

#

i imagine when it forms a cell the cylinders close, the pipes connecting them to the cell maker glow so it looks like theyre pumping plasma, and then some things light up and the cell is dispensed

#

I think the main problem with this is the extreme coding difficulty

#

Basically everything need to be rewritten to allow them to be overcharged

#

This machine inputs power, outputs power, so there is also problem of it feeding back into itself, but this should be relatively easy to solve

#

It might be interesting to feed it with itself to store up a large amount of energy, but it's too weird this way

night ridge
#

maybe, just make an overcharge module that will make energy consuming of near-by weapons and such 5 times lower, but will need a lot of energy?

#

this way it will be easier to code and not so OP

mild iron
#

I think it's still difficult to code, but possible

#

Another problem is it could make EMP less useful, which is already relatively weak in the current meta

night ridge
#

No it don't... EMP is king of dom nowadays

#

It kills alpha ships, makes little ships die from nearly anything and can make bigger ships way weaker by disabling theur shields, thrusters, command room in a fight

tropic bay
#

i still have no idea what pepol mean when they talk about 'the meta'

#

but from what i some what know, you guys try to kill etchother as fast as you can right? so that means you dont realy have to use this since its a sustain thinge

inner basin
#

this would be really strong, one example is as you say boost thrust, they would last so long when charged with super-batteries, one way to ballence this might be to add a "bleed" onto the charge, so that if they are not being used they will convert to just normal charges fairly quickly.

# tropic bay i still have no idea what pepol mean when they talk about 'the meta'

meta-strategy of building/battling that got very popular or popular enough to be divided from others, speed meta is the most popular and is dominating one, speed meta is strategy of building, where you make you ship have A LOT of speed, even 1.5M ships usually have 100 m/s speed, with this they dodge, speed, kaite and do other kind of things to slower enemies.

#

example of meta ship is Rammers, and Alpha ships, which usually use speed meta too (alpha ships sometimes dont)

dreamy wagon
#

basically, the best thing you can do

#

if something is meta

#

it means it is one of the best things you can do

tropic bay
#

interesting

#

i supose that means this might enhance the meta then?

#

depending on useage?

#

A simple idea for implementing this for a mod: Make the supercharged power cells be a resource, which has a 1x1 factory to convert it back to a large number of batteries.

dreamy wagon
nocturne zealot
# dreamy wagon it takes in 6 energy and puts out 5, if i'm reading the OP right

Yes, but it's unclear to me how it makes batteries last longer.

Batteries are technically a resource.
The conversion is easy. Make it essentially a capacitor that outputs batteries with the amount of resource 5 small reactor core batteries have.

The hard part would be to make these batteries cause ship parts to increase its battery storage capacity.

I can see a lot of things can go wrong with this though. Not only would it be hard to code but making a shield quintuple its charge is insanely broken.
Sure a nuke may still take a single shield out with one hit, but 5 shields in a row would need 5 times as many nukes.
Also the shields could be recharged 5 times as quickly again provided you have sufficient of these (what are in essence) super capacitors.

Regarding the factory storing batteries as a different resource, this can already be done in a mod (not sure if a mod exists that already did this).
Not sure how practical this would be though since reactors already provide infinite resource and storing batteries as a different resource might end up doing nothing except making the game run a little bit more slow for no real gain.

#

Also storing batteries as a different resource by itself will not make overcharge possible.

inner basin
#

His idea would work if I am reading it right, you have two factories, one that just takes 6 power and gives you a "superbatt" as the output, then one that takes "Superbatts" and returns 5 or 6 powercells

tropic bay
#

le sigh, it takes 6 batterys, uses 1 of them for power, and merges the other 5 into a cell, the cell has the combined power of the 5 batterys, efectivly x5 ing the power by alowing you to have more power per power

#

efectivly, insted of haveing 5 things take up 5 tiles, you have 5 things takeing up 1 tile

It seems rather convoluted and not very useful overall. There are probably better ways of achieving an overcharge system (kinda like how the booster thruster in some ways can conceptually be seen as an overcharged part when boosting).

tropic bay

tropic bay
#

no, like the battery slots in things like thrusters weapons and shelids

nocturne zealot
#

So not a tile (technically that is).

On another note, I just thought of a way in which your suggestion could maybe kinda work. Would have to give all relevant ship parts 2 different storages (batteries and overcharge (or whatever you wanna call the latter)). The overcharge could be converted into battery when battery gets depleted. It would in essence become a second type of power storage, quickly converted into battery once battery becomes depleted.

tropic bay
#

with the 2 difrent storages, it might also help? if they are linked, so like for a shield witch has 6 power slots, it... i dont know how to explain, but basicly: you could have a mix of the batterys and cells, so like 2 cells and 4 batterys takeing up the 6 slots?

nocturne zealot
#

Visually, I think so.
