you'd either be able to hit a guy when they don't even know that you exist or you'll just miss them by about a kilometer
also, the only con being that it's expensive, requires more batteries, and eats all of the ammo? those are hardly cons late game

Well I dunno how to fix that, maybe add a cooldown that is extra lon, and is automatically demasking the ship (pinging it/giving visual on the ship) AS SOON AS YOU FIRE for about 30 secs. That way you can't snoip someone across the system, but you can use it against stations or very brain dead people

So you have to dedicate a sniping ship to snipe across the system
And since the rail is long as hell, it requires alot more batteries
Besides the breech could require triple ammo
And the price of one piece could be ×12
So very very expensive
And it could also consume processed uranium, diamonds and proccesors

showing where you are when you fire wont stop you from shooting at them, you'll atleast be able to get your first shot off
use a second ship
so you know that it's going to miss constantly, so you basically just want an incredibly niche weapon that'll basically only be avble to take out stations?
the price of ammo is 4, so that'd be 48 per. not much
like i said, reactors aren't much lategame. uranium, diamonds, and processors can be made for a somewhat okay price if you can mine it
maybe not ACROSS THE WHOLE SYSTEM , but more like double the original max range , so 1.2k meters instead of 600 meters. There's ways to easily get past the whole energy consumption issue , and ammo is merely solved with a factory at hand. It's like treating railguns as if they were deckguns
Maybe it could be fixed by having a charge time before you fire, like 10 secs
Then you have 20 secs of staying visible whilst the shell is flying
the railguns ingame already have a charge time, 10s wouldn't be too much as a comparison for it
if the railgun is going to have longer range, it should have less damage and pen
