#Option to not auto center on ship when toggling direct control

already should be
where? I checked every option I could find
There is a option to move the camera to your cursor
I don't have those options? latest Steam version
but I don't want to lock the camera to the ship
I want to disable the auto center on the ship when toggling the mode
dont think you can fully free cam while in DC mode
most you can get is this with the camera following the mouse
huh gif does not how the cursor
yes, you can. just toggle direct control mode and then move the camera with edge panning. then zoom to cursor works normally
Somewhat related, a line or indicator showing where you're pointed/aimed would be really helpful for direct control with weapons that aren't gimbaled
what weapon is that meant to assist?
????
o wait u need to enable that
Anything not gimbaled. A modded weapon in my case.
here's a great case for why I want this option. I'm zoomed in looking at a hostile station and decide I want to swap to direct control mode for precise fire. the camera forcibly jumps back to my ship and I have to move the camera back to the station and zoom in again. it's infuriating
every single fucking time
use pip?
picture in picture
see settings
set to always show enemy in combat
use alt while hovering over an enemy to lock in
targeting w/ ions is literally perfect??
r u rotating at the station to aim?
aim at a piece behind it
"here's how to fix ur problem"
"nooo complete useless i refuse"
your problem is that you have an ion ship and need to aim precisely at a station, correct?
if it's a fixed beam: use r or hold shift, it even has a preview line
if not: target a piece behind so that it is tricked into firing into what u want
I have to necro this thread because I got the exact same problem. It's counter-intuitive that the camera always jumps to my ship when entering AND leaving(!) direct control mode. I often look at the enemy ship before going into direct control, and having to scroll back to it every time is frustrating. Even previously set camera locks are overridden by this.
It's ok to have the option to hard-lock onto my ship in direct control. But when that option is not ticked, I expect the camera not to go to my ship. Or at least not to go to my ship on leaving direct control because that simply does not make sense in any way I could think.
So my suggestion is one of following:
a) Change the camera behaviour on entering/leaving direct mode so that the current view is not changed when the "Lock camera to ship" setting is inactive. OR
b) Add a setting to enable the "neutral" camera.
