Even though you can create a fleet, currently it is quite difficult as small ships tend to be inneficient (the larger the parts, the more efficient they become benefit/cost and crew/cost). Also, small ships don't tend to require all the commanding points from a normal cockpit. Therefore, it would be nice if there were a smaller version of the cockpit with a special benefit. While this is the only cockpit in a ship (that means that you can't stack it with others cockpits), crew moves a bit faster, or maybe adjacent tiles to this cockpit are controled automatically without requiring crew.
The idea is to simply allow you a bit easier to play with multiple little ships instead of one large and efficient ship.
Maybe if you imput energy to this cockpit, adjacent tiles get energy similar to the enginee room. This would encorage putting it close to the front where you might have some energy weapons.

Whilst i would like this idea as i like smol ships, this would probably disrupt the balance of L1s to L3-ish ships in career
I mean there would possibly be an even smaller tier than L1 and idk how much that would impact the start of career
Also starter ships made using this will probably be stronger since they dont dedicate a lot of money on cockpits
The Cr is pretty expensive for small ships, best to keep it that way when things like cannon alphas on domination are already so cheap
You can make that the tech to unlock the small cockpit is unlocked after getting the large one
The idea is to use it in your fleet not in your main ship
It could require expensive components as processors
Not sure about all the buffs you’ve given it. If anything it should be worse than a 2x2, not better in any way.
I’d say make it use the same amount of energy as a normal one, but only have 20 CPs. That way it’s easy to make small ships but you’d still be encouraged to have the 2x2 one asap.
This could be remedied by making this smaller cockpit appear somewhere deeper in the tech tree, making it more useful for someome who wants an inproved way to create smaller secondary ships later in their playthroughs whilst preventing people from using these cockpits right from the start.
Solution: Smaller ships like that rarely ever appear alone, they’re always either in groups or accompanying a bigger ship.
As for the cost, they wouldn’t really be much stronger since a smaller cockpit would have fewer CPs and thus fewer thrusters, weapons and shields. Looking at the current starters, they all have 28, 33 and 34 CPs in use. If the smaller Cockpit had only 20 it would be impossible to get stronger than them without additional cost.
I kinda agree with you. 20 seems like a fair amount as the 2x2 one has +50.
It using the same amount of energy will be a bit trivial though as the 2x2 cockpit already consumes a petty amount of energy whilst such small ships build around a 2x1 cockpit will probably not have many parts to power anyway.
Cockpit uses 1 power per minute. That seems like a pretty fine low-end power usage to me, going any lower wouldn’t really change much as thrusters and weapons use way more in comparison.
@rugged saddle Did you mean to send that?
Ops, no, no idea what's happened
You happen to have a cat? 😛
Yeah, when I came home I saw my cat sleeping over the mouse/keyboard
Posted several times and denied for smaller cockpits
mods do this
That’s not an argument. Mods also had deck cannons.
Walt or one of his mods litraly denied this idea in another that have the exact same thing their asking for smaller cockpit….
At least I’m 90% sure they did
Mods also had overpowered larger deck cannons that one shot anything ever heard of a pow? From the warhammer mod as well as no need for crew as well should be added to vannilla?
There’s a reason most not all but most mods should stay as mods and not be just thrown into vanilla because a bunch of kids want their overpowered deck gun but ion for some reason as well as their oh so balanced cabel age where no crew should ever be needed on a ship it’s the fuuuuuuture so it should all be automated by pure amounts of how much money you own to make reactors
Exactly. Mods are unbalanced, and „It’s already a mod“ is a stupid answer to any suggestion, good or not.
Oh but it’s quite a good answer it let’s them be able to use the thing they want while Walt desided to either deny the dumb idea or deside to accept and rebalance the idea
It gives them the thing they want all they have to do is download a mod to use it
Either way it’s a win win they get what they want and later Walt might even deside he wants it in the base game
But as for this idea Walt litraly denied smaller cockpits in another EXACT SAME post
90% sure
