#RTS ship hotkey
26 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
For example, I have ship 1 on one side of the map, and I select the ship, hold ctrl +1 and add it to that hotkey until the ship is dead or replaced by a new ship(s),
While I also have 4 small ships on the other side of the arena, and I then hold ctrl+ 2 and bind these 4 ships to that hotkey and as 1 ship dies, it is removed from the hotkey, until all of them are dead or replaced by a different ship into that hotkey
I should note, these hotkeys probably shouldn't work while already controlling a ship
Else they will interfere with the hotkeys of that ship
pretty sure you can do that by assigning the same F* key to multiple ships

Hmmm
Like F1 through F9?
and weirdly F9 doesnt work for it
so your capped at F1 - F8
Honestly, I’d prefer Shift + number to set and select ship groups, since function number keys are so often preset to do things like open Microsoft edge, sometimes adjust brightness, etc. Depending on the computer.
the number keys are already set to weapon systems IIRC
cannons, ions, lasers, missiles etc
1-9 are weapons systems, Shift + 1 through 9 are not
Using Shift to decide whether specific weapons or ship groups should be selected when pressing a number
Yeah, ships have control groups too. Just substitute number keys for function keys (but do NOT remove control group 4).
Wait, why not remove control group 4? Does removing control group 4 involve pressing Alt + F4?
Yep
Surely there's a way to override that
If you mean in settings, definitely, all control group keybinds are fully customizable. While I think it's technically possible to override alt f4 from the window instance as a whole, it's probably not a good idea.
What about keybinding ships to the Number pad, right side of the keyboard
That might cause issues with laptops. Keyboards pretty much universally have function keys, but I don't think I've ever seen a laptop with a physical numpad, and most don't have an fn digital replacement either.
My gaming laptop has a number pad, some Acer computers may have them. Agreed that since not all laptops have dedicated number pads, it wouldn’t work for everyone.
