#What game speed do you usually use during combat in Career mode?

1/2x for consistency w/ mp
2x
1/2
1x
2x
1/2
1/2x
1/2
πx
would probably be better to do a reaction poll
1/2
1/2 because of peformance but i use 1x often
for the time when ive played, 1x
2x or more if i know im gonna steamroll them
1/2x if i actually need to put effort into killing them
1
thats so accurate lol

1️⃣ 1/8
2️⃣ 1/4
3️⃣ 1/2
4️⃣ 1x
5️⃣ 2x
6️⃣ 4x
7️⃣ 8x
1/2 - 1/4th because I use ships that are entirely too large lol.
Poll created.
occasionally 72x when I really just want to be done with it
1x, but if it's a major multiplayer battle, 1/2
Can you edit this to say:
A. <1/2
B. 1
C. 2
D. >4
oh nvm someone created a poll
lowest speed so I can see the pain they go through in slow mode while my projectiles and weapons rip them to shreds >:D
me after making massive ion lasers
1/2 for multiplayer
1/2 for manual piloting and x1 for everything else. Anything above that and you may not have the reaction time to give orders in critical situations
I prefer 1/2 speed but my friend (who I play with) likes to do it at 1/8th 💀
if they're weak i just do 8x but if it's like some strong stuff 2x or 4x
not really too far into the game yet though
ship is worth around 1.5m credits
It's asking about PvE
1/2
it's pinned tho
evidently ppl don't notice
1x speed most of the time because that's more immersive. In PvP obviously 1/2 PvP standard and whenever I am waiting for something like asteroid to be mined, ship to fill up with resources or doing a weapon/thrust test, I always crank up to a high speed.
1/2 for both mp and career mode
when I'm mining/salvaging/traveling in career mode I go on 8x
I personally use 1/4th, as I love the RTS aspect I give the game with micromanaging several ships; also helps down the line with performance.
1x-2x.
15x
:)
I go into a system with significantly stronger ships than what the difficulty level asks for so I just like to get the fights over with
1x if easy
1/2x if it looks unbeatable and I try anyway
1x for most combat
1/2x when things are going badly
1/8x when things are going great and I don't want to miss a moment
Depends on how hard the fight is, I usually use 1/2 when fighting ships slightly weaker than mine, 1/4 if I'm fighting a stronger ship, 1/8 when I know I'm gonna die and I want to see where to improve my ship (or when fighting a fanged fighter with a way stronger ship so that I don't just slap it away like a fly).
I also pause a lot to give commands.
1x for normal encounters
1/8th for “oh boy this fight is gonna be tough” encounters.
I approach career mode combat sort of like a Turn-based/RTS hybrid playstyle.
I typically pause just before coming into attack range to issue commands to each of my ships, then watch them play out in 1/8 or 1/4 speed.
1/8 to target the nukes
i plan my battle with 0x and when fighting i play it on 1x speed to really see what is going on, when the fight is over i play with 1x speed exept if i have not much time than i do play with 8x speed.
1/8 for most encounters
1x or 2x for battles against ships significantly weaker than mine
my favorite speed to use is the button to pause the game to plan all things
i use only 8x when i have not much time.
i have an ion ship rn that requires manual aim (ai doesn't do it well) so i use 1/8x or 1/4x for most fights to aim it, 1/2x if i'm really near the end or just sitting there blasting a stationary thing
but of course any other time i use 8x
i do wish a 16x existed for faster travel and it went down to 4x still upon enemy encounter
1x with lots of pausing
1x
no pausing
×1 because I play with another person. Otherwise I would prefer ×1/2
I responded 1/2x to the poll but I do 1x with pausing for easy fights and 1/2x with less pausing for hard fights
In our 3p co-op multiplayer game, always at least as slow as 1/2 once an enemy is in visual range, and about half the time slowed to 1/4
Rarely 1/8, usually if we want to sit back and watch for fun
1x normal, 2x for large distances, 0.75x for combat
4x for normal travel and salvage, 1x when a hostile ship is nearby, and 1/2-1/4 for combat. Combat is a small portion of the gameplay time, so I try to savor it when I can. I turn up the speeds when it’s a stalemate though
x1/2 or x1 if i have a lot of ships witch slow the game down
I am using 1/2 for combat, based on the pvp standart.
Initially in Career I would use x1 with lots of pauses to micromanage weapons, attack angles and multiple ships. 1/2 without pause helps me play faster.
1x
1/2 speed
1x speed for combat, but I usually pause to pick enemy ship part targets first.
1/8 during combat. Sometimes 1/4 if the battle is with very few ships but vast majority of combat is using 1/8 speed.
Default speed I use without combat or danger is 1.
I'll set it to 1/2 right away once an enemy is spotted that I am going to engage. 1/4 right before battle when moving ships into a better position, but before shots are fired.
1/8 once the shooting starts and remains until all enemy ships or all my ships are dead.
I'm using a loooot of ships though (usually hundreds), so a lot of micromanagement and combat orders to give.
1x speed because that's how the creator intended it 😎
also because everything seems off fighting in a different speed
1/2 sometimes 1/4
8x, because i find the other speeds slow, 8x is usually a normal speed for me
1/2 usually - (1x for fights that do not matter)
! would use 2/3 Speed often if it was available.
The jump from "1x slapstick" to "1/2 chillout" is a big one.
^
1/8 if I need to pay attention, otherwise 8x
extremist
1x or 2x
1x
1/2
It depends, generally I use 1/2, but for huge combat with more than 3 ships I use 1/4 and 1/8
1x or if the fight is over i speed max up
1x (sometimes 2x if the fight seems particularly lopsided)
I just pause if I need to setup many commands, like different angles of attack for different ships, or different targets
remember the pins
Combat: ×1 with a lot of pauses
Travel: ×8
Mining: ×8
1x
1/2 for large ships and multiplayer pvp , 1 or 2x normal gameplay and 8x when mining / travelling
I've never really fought above level 8 opponents, but 2/4/8 all get used. very rarely pausing.
mostly 4 tho
Depends.. if its early or late game it's 1x, but mid game has that sweet spot where it's quiet easy to kill ships with limited inputs (dependent on main weapons of course) so I'll use 2x-4x
1/2 or 1/4 if managing multiple ships or several types of weapons
Specially if high difficulty
I pause a lot, but I tend to go with 1/2 unless there are a lot of ships or a really dangerous one then I'll drop to 1/4 or 1/8th. Its easy to miss something and make a mistake, which is brutal most of the time. I also pause a lot.
1x - 2x usual, 1/8th for anything only a player can pull off.
Difficulty:
1-6: 1x, 2x, pausing
6-10: 1x, 1/4th
11-16: 1/2, 1/8th no pause unless strategizing ship placements
Wow that'd make for a boring slow motion fight that'd take a century.
boring is really kinda subjective here.
Slow motion is (for instance) done a lot in movies. Making movies run slower during action scenes doesn't make movies more boring, just to try to illustrate what I'm pointing at.
Yes but imagine the entire action scene played at 12.5% speed.
Like in The Matrix? 😛
The thing is, to try to illustrate what it is I like about the slower speed is, I like playing with usually hundreds of ships.
Not only will the game not run really well with so many ships shooting constantly and with all the wrecks anyway, but that way I can actually enjoy watching the hail of nukes go off and seeing ships shattering and breaking apart.
And of course it also gives me more control as controlling hundreds of ships in realtime is just not something I am able to do 😛
I don't enjoy the fights being over in a flash
So for me it's not boring
I can understand for some it will be boring. I guess it's a bit similar to "What is good music?" or "Is banana or apple tastier?".
Don't think of it as the game going slower, that'll ruin your fun- instead think of it as you increasing your reflexes and management skills for a bit. :D
Especially with Direct Control, where a perfect rotation or perfectly-placed shot could be the difference between a ton of loot or a lost ship
I really enjoy sending lots of throwaway ships (but with nukes) and having some ships sneak through the crowd and sniping sensitive areas, kinda like in BSG when the blackbird sneaks in and disables the rez ship's ftl drives
meanwhile
Me: but what if vanilla armor was made tanker
also slow speed and pausing lets you look at everything that's happening at that time, and I think it's balanced since you're the only commander of the ship and noone tells you what's happening in the parts of the battlefield you're currently not looking at
There is already a mod that increases the default armor (so ai ships will also benefit from this)
1/2 if it's an even fight. 1/4 if there are explosions everywhere. Faster if the combat has no chance of going wrong and I don't need to check how my current ship setup is behaving.
^
Pin this.
I'd ping a mod but nah that seems a bit silly.
Oh wait nevermind me it's already pinned 🤦♂️
Most people don’t read pins
Yeah, sad truth.
1/2
To be fair he’s probably already finished whatever he needed this data for
^
between 1/2 and 1/8th for me in MP career mode unless its a really easy fight
I just have it set to whatever it is after I spam the page down button
1/2x. 1x is good also, but you cant appreciate the details of the combat in 1x or above, that is why i prefer 1/2x for combat.
1× in the early game, though sometimes 2× or 1/2× under specific circumstances. Don't know how I would respond in later game scenarios, at least with more than one ship in my fleet, but probably 1/2× if so.
- 1/2x (or 1x) for combat (with pausing and giving orders)
- 8x (or 4x) for mining/salvaging/crew building
Depends, if I know the combat will be easy, x8 or x4.
For a normal combat x2 or x1.
For a difficult combat, x1.
For a super deadly combat (or when using railguns), x1/2.
That doesn't mean that sometimes I use pause to give orders. I tend to use more pause when using high speed as otherwise it might be difficult to click on the right part
Based.
x8 generally and x1/2 in combats
same except i go 1x speed in combat
x1 Speed for me. Then again i'm still at the beginning of the game. Later on I might wanna dial the speed down when I someday get far enough along to have me vs multiple foes battles more often than very rarely.
8 tbh
I use all of them and I think it is a great addition to the game to be able to select between these many game speed settings
1/2
1/2 speed
1/2 speed supplemented by plenty of pausing.
1/4 when at the start
x4 when I setup everything
Guess who plays missile kite
Missiles are too OP for this exact reason
Why is this thread even active, I'm pretty certain Walt has claimed more information about this than he'd ever need.
1/8 when I need more control, 1/4 or 1/2 when I'm fairly certain things will go my way
funny enough 1x speed is the least useful in career? for combat you want 1/2 or lower and for mining, building, trading etc you want 2x or faster.
16 normaly and 2 during combat
2x during combat?
1/4th because I play ships like brawlers and use tractor beams to grapple
1x if they won't be an issue, 1/4 during regular fights and 1/8 + pausing during particularly difficult fights
1x
Depends on the battle, huge mega battles I do 1/2x, a few ships 1/2x, a 1v1 1x, a 5v1 4x,
For this reason i modded the game to have savaging and crew speed in space x2 faster...
While in game combat options i have a mod that halves both delivered and received damage (halving combat speed de facto)
Upping the crew speed in space seems a good idea!
Making damage less does not change the speed of movement at all, seems a bad idea.
1/2
1/8 or 1
1x
1/2 but 1/8 if I think I lose.
1/2 but 1/4th if it's chaotic. My friend goes to 1/4th by default. I've never needed to use 1/8th.
1/8th or paused during initial meeting to arrange ships and target specific things. then 1/4 or paused during rest of fight.
1x and pauses
For a concentrated Ion Beam build specifically, I slow down anywhere from 1/2 to 1/8 while manually piloting to keep the beam perfectly on target and punch through instead of splashing damage all over.
I'll do 1/2 if I expect a fight to be troublesome, and 1 most other encounters. I'll run trivial fights at 2 times speed, but haven't ever purposely done combat at a faster game speed than this.
1x
1/2 so I can watch as my overly expensive dreadnought annihilates that tiny worthless enemy cruiser just a few meters away, I want to see the impact point of 200 missiles slamming endlessly against the armor, then the corridors, then the reactors of the enemy ship. I want to watch as the enemy crew screams for mercy while I give them none and rip their ship apart piece by piece untill they’re nothing but lifeless bodies, tri steel, and resources for me to plunder and sell.
huh?
Somewhere between 2x and 8x (even in combat).
In grand admiral its 1/4 or 1/8 Unless Its a fight I know I can win then x8
1/2 When I just wanna see
1/4 When I want to give precision orders and look at those deadly shots
Wait a second... aren't you that guy? From roblox?
Holy crap it’s the guy from BE
1x if its a normal fight
1/2 if its a hard one or group/ im trying to run way
1/4 if things get way to intence
I just stick to 0.5x
(although sometimes, because it looks funny, i do 8x)
1x for everything. pre pause for comprehensive orders and then let it play out with minor adjustments
ive found that if im gonna lose doing it slow is just unpleasant and if im gonna win then it doesnt need to be any slower than 1 to watch and enjoy
like literally just 0.25x, 1x and 8x - never in between
1/2 if my opponent is equal, lower if i'm at a disadvantage and have to micromanage a lot
1x
1/2
1x for combat play, i pause often to give out fleet orders for target designation and positioning, sometimes taking direct control of a ship if it runs into an asteroid mid fight and starts having a stroke
I tend to build one ship to rule them all and let the AI micromanage combat. I'm lazy enough that even operating a railfan annoys me, forget manually playing with dozens of ships/weapons. So once combat is established I'll often run at 4x or faster because I'm just watching things get fried.
My performance problems are normally from having a factory/miner ship off somewhere with 500 crew busy getting resources and running factories while my BUFF also has 500 crew trying to kill something.
I use 8x to get places fast, and to fight, but I've reduced it to 4x when I'm battling something.
I used to keep it fully in 8x speed in the itch.io game but i playing on the demo, then the full game i have reduced to 1x speed
1/8x if studying how/what my ship does in combat, 1/2x in normal combat, 8x everywhere else
1x if i know i'll probably be fine, otherwise 1/2x, and 1/2x or lower if i have to get the game to stop controlling my ship in the absolute worst way possible (devs pls improve that)
8x
this was literally started in 2023
1x
Easy fights where I'm certain of an easy victory after aiming x2. Usually x1, with sometime x1/2 for hard fights
x1/4 to x1 but that's mainly because my ships are mostly made to be piloted
i tend to just go like minimum to 1/2 ussually
