#Change the ship size limit from square to quantity of tiles

Use same amount of tiles (14400 if it's correct) which the basic square have but without hard limitations to the shape

There can be made some limit to ships from being too wide or too long if it can be exploited (it will be exploited, I knowLUL ). Make the building grid square bigger but with that block limitation.
Building grid itself also should be remain at least because it helpful in building process.

It's every time annoying to seeing multiplayer matches where ships in max size categories near to be square or circle/half-circle

I am speaking about not expending limits but add to players ability to build ships with shapes whatever they want in multi WITHOUT MODS

If I understood the post correctly, you want that instead of having a 120x120 grid you instead can have 14400 blocks to use

Yep. It should little refresh forms of the biggest ships. Sqaureships isn't that bad thing but I don't think that everyone wants to roleplay borgs while they are using maxi limit ship

I didn't asked remove the grid just make the accent from strong shape limitation to less shape limitation and add tile limitation. Grid itself remains

having the tutorial say "Hey! You can build however and wherever you want, but you can only place X amount of blocks! 😉" Is kinda weird and very limiting

Now that I think about it docking will basically remove all grid limitations due do the fact that you can simply make ship modules, put them together and have "a" very big ship

Hmmm... Maybe current grid can be made just bigger but with that block limitation. To prevent possible exploits with too long/wide ships

What about being able to pick from a selection of grids? Square would be the default, but you could also pick a “skinny” grid thats way longer, and triangular grid, a more circular grid, etc

It wouldn’t necessarily solve your issue however it would allow you to build a larger variety of ships

That would make the longest ship possible 14x1000 + 400 blocks extra which is only ever going to be a max range rail or something equally absurd

It'd be good to learn from a dev what the actual compute limitation is that led to the current size limit

Like if it's crew count, raw number of tiles, grid size of paint layers, etc

Then you could do say huge grid default + limited by biggest compute limitation

If the limit was 14400 tiles it depends how you count a tile. Ie does interior empty space of a ship count? If it doesn't count is it fine if somebody makes some humangoid armor structure cause of all the spacing between armor layers

In Multiplayer unless you're doing absurd budgets, such as 4m+ you won't really encounter grid limit much,
As most PvP is 1.5m, and domination is generally too low in total budget for big ships either,

There isn't really many archetypes except for The big box you do at 4m+

Missiles you get a big U, but they still get railfanned because of big budget,

Spawning ships in PvP that are Above the grid size can get very scuffed, drastically changing how all the ships spawn in

It seems to be more driven by weapon design. He said knowing the theoretical max size of a ship is important

I kinda get what you mean @brave stone , it is an interesting concept. Could be a cool type of tournament or way to play the game. It brings a suprising new way to play, efficiency and compactness is key to win. Don't think it should be the default setting but a different way to play, most definitely.
